Bottom Line:bought the frame, fork, and brakes and built the rest up. by far the best handling bike i have ridden. the geometry is right on, the fork is awesome, and the crankset is just plain cool. really, if u can find one of these used, BUY IT. put a riser bar on it, and u have found the perfect singletrack machine

Date Reviewed: June 26, 2006
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $1900.00
Strengths:The bike is great, an excelent racing bike. I have a Large model and have it on 19.5lbs!!(with a couple of mods, and fully agresive racing bike) but overal it is easy to handle reaaly fast and responsive, sharp steering, (I got mine to be the last with ELO so it is a great feature to be able to sprint and have it closed when needed and not when it wants to.
The crossmax are a great compliment to the bike as they are stiffer than other wheels for this bike.
Weaknesses:Like always on every cannondale is the paint, it shws a bit signs of corrotion in some parts, (but after two years it is considerably bettern than previous models)
The battery on the ELO only last about 3-4 months of use.
Get a carbon seat post since the bike is really stiff (Which is a good thing)
Similar Products Used:Trek 9900, KHS, Trek Fuel, trek Y.
Bike Setup:Ti bolts all over, Selle italia SLR-XP, USE alien carbon seatpost, Easton EC90, Xpedo TI/TI. King cages Al bolts, Stans Ti rotors, 12-27 Dura-ace cassete. Michelin wild gripper comp-s light tires(Made tubeless with stans sealant). Road bike tape (instead of grips)
(side note Im only 160lbs)
Bottom Line:I'll buy it again for 2007 (hope fully it will have the next XTR)

Get it if you are a racer or looking for performance.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1.00
Strengths:I'd Love to post a review for my 06 f 4000 sl. But It has not yet arrived this is unacceptable seeing how I ordered it a couple of months back. Apparently cannondale is having problems accquiring their carbon ti leftys with the fox inertia as they have to go through fox first I guess?? I just want to ride my new 06 bike for the 06 season but it just isn't working out that way! I'm pissed off! The season is under way cannondale! I phoned c dale and asked them why they advertise products they want to sell but do not have available?? Lady on the phone said ubbb dubb I dunno??? I then asked when I might get my new ride?? she said ubb dubb I dunno?? well then who knows if cannondale doesn't know?? Do I have to phone fox?? Any ways Im pulling the plug on my purchase if it isn't here by end of may. When I buy a new bike of this caliber I want it from beginning of the season to the end. not mid season to the end.
Weaknesses:Apparently Im second on the list for the fox carbon ti lefty.A guy from Japan is first! How many good xc racers are coming out of Japan?? Send it to the canadian (me)first. Ever here of the canadian mtb maffia??? Yeah all the talent is up north.
Similar Products Used:2000 cannondale f 3000 sl
Bike Setup:Stock with no lefty sitting at cannondale waiting to be shipped. If it ever comes I'll be adding a thompson master piece post.
Bottom Line:I want a f4000 cause I know the geometry is for me. But Im having a hard time wanting to support a company that is offering this sort of customer service. cannondale should pull products off their web site that they do not have available or say not available beside the product. Not advertise produts in sept 05 and not have em available in may of 06????especially highest end products as they are usually for the most dedicated serious riders.
Ill post a review when or if I get it. like I said I pull the plug end of may so my review might be next year with the 07 model.

Submitted by DJ a Cross Country Rider from Petaluma, CA, USA
Date Reviewed: March 9, 2006
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Santa Rosa Cyclery
Strengths:It climbs like a scared cat on crack! And decends with all of the precision of a LGB! Made in USA and it looks the business too. Some may say it's stiff but I have to disagree. The whole point of the road bike looking seat stays is so that the bike will be more compliant and it is. Compared to the S-Works I tried this bike felt way more confident. I came off a 2002 C-Dale Team edition hard tail which I loved, and the addition of the Lefty with the Fox Terralogic internals, lighter frame, cross max wheels, and tubeless really made this bike come alive. This bike makes you want to ride all day long.
The single reason to buy any cannondale is the Lefty in whatever trim it comes in.
Weaknesses:The price. Even if you bought the frame and fork and then built it up you'd loose your rear. The set up of the Lefty can be a little time consuming. Go with exactly what the manual calls for and then back off the bump threshhold depending on taste.
Similar Products Used:Specialized S-works HT, Marin IFT.
Bike Setup:I took all of the SRAM off and went with XT Dual control with XT disc and rear der. I also opted for Specialized Fast Track 2Bliss over the OEM and Specialized Rival SL seat (the most comfortable seat ever).
Bottom Line:If you want a light (24lbs in a XL with XT) XC race bike this is it. Like I said before, the Lefty is the whole reason to pick up a new cannondale. It is with out a doubt the best handling front suspension on the market even if the set up on this articular bike is kind of a pain.

Favorite Trail:Corner Canyon
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $2600.00
Purchased At:Pro Formed
Strengths:Weight, components, and climbing
Weaknesses:tires, wonderfull xtr wheelset humming
Similar Products Used:Scalpel 3000, Gemini 3000
Bike Setup:OEM -lack of current funds
Bottom Line:The best Hardtail I have ever ridden. Light, responsive, and stiff as can be. I particularly love the climbing ablility on this bike. NOT for anyone doing anything but xc racing - way too stiff a ride for a once a weeker. Also, a little pricey in my mind for a hardtail - I don't know if I would have bought it w/out a pro form. OVERALL a great race ready bike out of the box needing few improvements, if you've got money and aren't into the FS race biking (you should at least try a scalpel or specialized epic or something before sticking w/the hardtail) this is a solid, responsive bike. I'm a big fan of Cannondale, and they didn't let me down here.

Date Reviewed: March 23, 2004
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $3700.00
Strengths:Lite weight, stiff, soaks up the bumps. Climbs like a champ. Handles like a dream.
Weaknesses:Tires, weak on pavement additionally provides no grip on off pavement.
Similar Products Used:Speacilized FSR, Lightspeed Pisgah
Bike Setup:Complete XTR.
Bottom Line:I have owned this particular bike for approximatley 4 months. I can not speak highly enough about it. Handling is awesome. This bike is extremely fast and stiff. A little pricey howwever, you do get the best possible equipment available. I would have no problem recommending this particular setup to anyone. This is not the setup for the week-end warrier...serious riders only
