Strengths:always worked, got me home many times, has gauge, small size
Weaknesses:arm and elbow are slightly sore after pumping 26 x 1.9 to 50 psi

Strengths:Extremely durable
Quite cheap
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:2 Zefal pumps (both utterly useless)
Bike Setup:Cannondale FS
Bottom Line:Unlike many of the other reviewers, I have had extremely good experiences with this pump. Have had it for over a year and have taken it touring in Patagonia (mud, gravel roads, huge amounts of dust) and Africa and the thing is still working fine. I keep expecting it to pack in from the environmental exposure, but it is still going strong. Dust cap came off in Patagonia and replaced it with a bit of duct tape... that's about it.

Date Reviewed: January 27, 2000

Strengths:It pumps up tyres
It's small & light
You don't need a user's manual
Weaknesses:Doesn't seem to work for people with diminished intelligence.
Similar Products Used:Bicycle Pumps
Bike Setup:I set it up in my garage
Bottom Line:I posted nearly 3 years ago with 4 chillis, this time I'm giving 5 on both counts. This thing still takes pride of place in my emergency toolkit and it's never let me down. When I've lent it to other people, they've always commented on how good it is.
If others are concerned about how long it takes to pump up a tyre they should carry a big stirrup pump around with them. This thing is for road/trailside repairs.
Hint to other users who can't seem to understand the mechanics of this thing: keep your f***ing hand off the hole at the top (it lets the air in and out)

Bottom Line:Correct me if I'm wrong, but the idea of a pump is to put air in the tube. Not only couldn't I get the C-dale pump to work well, I had to replace at least one tube because of it. Also bought a C-dale floor pump which worked just as well. Sold the floor pump for $5 and gave away the minipump. Got a Joe Blow and it rocks. Haven't used the einstein much but it works 1000 times better. Running presta valves.

I've used small pumps before. can't remember what they are but they worked fine.
Bottom Line:I found this pump to be difficult to use for all the reasons stated in the other reviews: strange angle on the air outlet, inaccurate gauge, pump head doesn't connect to the valve (schrader)very well. I discovered the trick of tweaking the screw knob on the pump end but serously, this pump is way to much trouble. I had all these complaints before reading the other reviews here and I'm glad it isn't just me being stupid. this pump sucks.

Of course, the guage is mostly decoration and the little frame bracket drops the pump almost everyday. Bottom line, most of these reviews are from people who don't know how to use the pump.

I have found this to be a great pump for the trail. It is easy to use and inflates quickly. During cross-country races cbviously CO2 cartridges are quicker, but they ain't cheap. For day-to-day use this pump works fine. I have had nothing but great experiences with Cannondale, from the four bikes to all the gear I've had, it has all been top-notch stuff. The one time I've had a warranty item, simply a broken zipper, they fixed it quickly and cheerfully. They are a quality company and stand by their products!

Another Update! I wish I could post a negative rating for this product, because my last epic ride had the potential for being a disaster. Last week, while I had a flat on the Gabrielino Trail on my way down to Chantry Flats, I had a flat. My Air pump fell apart on me, it became two separate pieces. Another rider lent me his pump...while someone else put my pump together. Last Sunday, on the same trail, punctured again by a 2 inch thorn...I found out my cannondale pump does not work at all! I've been saved twice by CO2 cartridges from other people. I swear, I will burn my pump tomorrow. Im too sleepy right now.

I'm not to happy with this Cannondale mini-pump w/ gauge. The pump head fit is not right on when inserting it w/ the inner tube. The rish of mangling your inner tube valve is very high. It's a bit hard to secure too, so expect air to gush out while you are pumping. The guage does not work since day one. I wish cannondale would replace my pump. It's a real waste of money.

The pump stinks. I found the ppump in a dukin donuts parking lot. I figure some one got mad and tossed the pump out the window. After using the pump, I know why he did. A legend pump if I ever saw one! For those hoons who so crudely seem to reject everything that Cannondale produces- GET STUFFED! I've had this pump for a year now, and it has not broken down, not bent any of my presta valves and not fallen from its holder. If you have problems with your motor and co-ordination skills and are incapable of operating a simple bicycle pump, don't buy it! But don't put it down and stop others from sampling the benefits of this piece of equipment! For what it was inteded to do-and that is to provide an emergency solution to pumping tires- I think it does the job more than capably.
But then, you don't really care do you?

Bottom Line:

I ride an F1000 which is a fantastic product. This pump however, is definitely not one of C-dale's better efforts. I broke two valve stems because of the head angle, which really sux if your 5 miles from your car and sans another spare. (hint: if you only unscrew the valve a little bit you won't have as much trouble with broken stems). The gauge is essentially worthless; mine reads 20psi when my home gauge reads 60. I will give it marks for being tough and capable of pumping up a tire fast for a mini (once you've managed to not break the damn valve stem). Overall, 1 chili and $20+ is way too much.

For the price, this pump's OK, but not great. I have a tendency (like Rick, below) to bend valve stems with it because of its awkward angle. My pressure gauge seems to work, but if your's doesn't, I wouldn't be surprised. Its action is smooth, however, and it seems to do a decent job of pushing air.The moral of my story: I'm going to buy me one of those nice carbon Scott floor pumps, and save my Cannondale pump for trail emergencies only.

First I would like to point out the lack of a velcro strap which says to me: Lose me in the woods on some fire road so the woodland creatures can inflate their tires! This never became a problem becuase i tied it to my frame with a hanky and before that I kept it in my pack. Other than this obvios design flaw (or perhaps money making scheme on the part of cannondale) I didn't have any complaints until it completely crapped out on me. After replacing my street tires with a pair of wtb velociraptors I noticed that it was taking an awfully long time to fill the tube (a brand new and all together flawless HEAVINLY schwinn thorn proof tube). Roughly 417 pumps later I checked and sure enough the pressure was still 0psi and there was air leaking out from the seal in the gauge. Is there a half pepper available?

The Cannondale Minipump is the poorest designed piece of equipment I've ever seen. It is very difficult to engage the tube's valve stem and once you do, the pump is most difficult to operate. I love my Cannondale bikes and gear, but this pump sucks.
1. It doesn't move enough air to fill a big knobby without giving you carpal tunnel syndrome.
2. It has a rinky-dink bracket that won't get both clips on to the alluminum barrel- one must clip on the plastic head or handle.
3. It is god-awful heavy for the small measure of pumpability it provides, if you only want a pump for emergencies, a co2 kit must weigh one tenth what this pump weighs.
4. The handle is perfectly designed to trap all manner of crap and grit.
5. It doesn't come with the specially sized pump strap to fit the bracket. In all fairness, the version I bought did have a gee-whiz pressure gauge, but the marginal usability on all the other points means that I am now using what I have used for years: a Blackburn. Don't waste your $$$ on this pump.

This pump was a great addition to my bag of riding accessories, it has the conversion for both Presta and Schrader
valves, and a thumb lock to keep that pump on the valve. Very small and light, it pumps up a tire from flat in
quite a few strokes less than normal mini pumps, and it has a very easy to read tire pressure gauge right on the pump!

My only gripe is the mounting bracket needs a water bottle boss to mount securely, it should have an adjustable frame mount to make it really diverse.
