See Cannondale Tech Notes if you are having problems. | | Similar Products Used: | never used anything but lefty | | Bike Setup: | Cannondale RUSH(2007) 5 stock but for avid elixir cr's and an slx front crank. | | Bottom Line: | Some people give the lefty a hard time. One said that the lefty plain dives to much and I say get a firmer negative spring which is what the set up guides say. Once I got the right negative spring all my worries went away! One also said that the lefty does not roll through the bumps and I thought that he probally means going downhill and here again with out the proper negative spring I think that I would of had the same problem. The spring was twelve dollars and install sixty. O-yea the new avid elixir cr with 203mm's are perfect for me at 220lbs. Sure I could get more power but for XC I think they are good to go for me. THe CANNONDALE RUSH 5(2007) is a good bike. If you stop to get the lefty in a best it can be working order it is really a good front end. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$600.00 | | Purchased At: | Moe's | | Strengths: | Shock was surprisingly stiff and durable. Lasted 3 years of daily abuse before rebuild was necessary. Never creaked or leaked. Plenty of mud clearance. | | Weaknesses: | $$$COST$$$ The Low end model started at 699 for a replacement and since its hard to successfully marry any standard fork to Cannondale's oversized headtube replacement would have cost alot of bucks for a 6-year old bike.
Bearings were soft and when hitting large drops they needed replaced annually. People asking silly questions about your fork did get old after several years. | | Similar Products Used: | Fox rl90, | | Bike Setup: | Cannondale F700 | | Bottom Line: | I am 6'4" and 300 lbs. I raced or commuted nearly everyday of this poor forks existence.
Continually overpowered, it never broke or even budged. A marvel of engineering. Too bad I can't say that about ANY other Cannondale product. I destroyed and replaced ever part of that bike from snapped handlebars and frames to taco'd rims and broken crank arms. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Very stable and stiff, no flex what so ever! I find also its easier to fit between tight spaces (i.e trees) when riding. | | Weaknesses: | Not quite as fluid as a Rockshok fork but well worth not having the side to side flex that you have with a regular fork. I do find that it places the front end of your bike a little higher though so I just use a flat bar with a 0 degree stem, seems to solve the problem. | | Similar Products Used: | Manitou SX, Rockshox Judy, Rockshox Duke Race and Duke SL100 | | Bike Setup: | Scalpel 900 XC Race | | Bottom Line: | Overall an excellent cross country fork, have had no issues thus far, even convinced a friend to buy one and he loves it too!! For a basic entry model shock it rocks! | | Similar Products Used: | Rock Shock Judy XL | | Bike Setup: | Prophet 600 with couple upgrades (levers, pedals, seat, seat tube) | | Bottom Line: | This fork is amazing! Writing this review to share FSR model set up info; I am 208lbs, shock was too soft with red spring, before I went to black spring (as others have suggested here) LBS adjusted spring preload and it works great!
Clean clean clead shock top and work in clean area! Put rebound adjust all the way in (clockwise), loosen top crown clamp holding tube, support frame, remove top tube cap, adjust obvious pretension (a couple threaded finger nuts that go down big threaded shaft, 1/2 inch tighter in my case). I never run out of travel even when I've bitten off a bit more than you can chew.. it's strong too. I've crashed hard twice, involving bending handlebars and moving stems and headsets out of alignment, and the fork works as well as it ever has. The lockout right there on the handlebar makes hills (and releasing the lockout on the other end) so easy.
The only bugbear I have is that to change a wheelset you need to remove the front brake caliper.. I've since not bothered with a 2nd wheelset, and just switch tyres (which is really, really easy to do by the way!)
I was lucky enough to find one near-new on eBay for a great price. I'd hate to think of the new price of one of these as an aftermarket item. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Such as, "Wow, I wish I could afford one of those," To: "Hey, how the hell does that ugly thing work?" | | Weaknesses: | ELO wire exits the top of the fork leg to close to the locking nut. C-dale should design one that plugs in. I had to pay $60 to replace the whole electric component as the result of a ten cent wire being sliced. F@#%ing stupid design for a mountain bike. The system needs to be changed or placed on a family oriented road bike.As for the fork, the mounting system and the front wheel. It takes a four whole brake disc and a special $40 fork mount that is a hassle to take on and off. The front brake assemble and wheel bolt have to be removed and reinstalled each time. | | Bottom Line: | The fork is great when riding the bike. (if equiped with the ElO be aware of the wire routing and try to figure a way of protecting it close to the electronic input area.) The ELO works great as long as the wire is working and it doesn't bother you not having any control of the dampening of the fork. Transporting the bike and the lack of wheel selection kinda stinks. Seems pretty strong. | | Weaknesses: | Needs to go to factory for repairs. This fork is hyper-succeptable to moisture damage, same as the Fatty. If these things get any water in them it's off to the factory for a rebuild. The upper boot has breather holes so be careful how you wash the thing. | | Similar Products Used: | Similar products? | | Bike Setup: | Jeckyll | | Bottom Line: | After having mine rust out and the boots were in perfect condition, and taking a close look at this thing, I'm surprised not to see much of the same in these reviews. Maybe just bad luck here, or good luck for those w/ no problems, although lots of Fatty owners suffer. The fork performs well but it comes at a price, which I guess sums up the whole C'dale experience. I would never have paid retail $ for the bike & it'll be the last C'dale in my garage. There are too many other good forks out there that are way more bullet-proof. In the meanwhile I'll just keep cleaning and lubing my fork anytime it gets near water. I rate: 5 pain in the ass chilies 4 performance chilies 3 value chilies. Transportation is not an issue. No matter what bike you have, you should have the means to transport it in a secure manner. An anklebiter works great on this bike. (Yakima) And Yakima trays are easy to pop off one rack and put on another.
Computer mounting - most of my time on the trail it would be detrimental to be looking at my computer, let alone adjusting it like I did on my old ride. I mounted my sensor to the left chainstay and the computer to the seat post. I turn it on at the beginning of my ride. If I stop, I look at it and when I'm done I check it. I've gotten used to it now and I'm a safer rider for it. | | Similar Products Used: | Judy XC | | Bike Setup: | '00 F2000SX | | Bottom Line: | This forks really absorbs the shocks, small and large. It provides stability and surefootedness to the front end. It takes short steep dips(ravines, gullies) gracefully. Don't need the lock out on the trails if the fork pressure is right. I usually only use it on the road. I prefer this fork to the headshock.

$1600.00 | | Purchased At: | bikeworld | | Strengths: | VERY VERY VERY sweet looking fork, extremely light espec for 10 cm of travel - thats almost 4 inches folks! oh darn, you say i have to have discs? exactly. not to mention youve never seen heads turn like this -- you dont have to tell them how much it costs for them to know its a nice bike ;) | | Weaknesses: | seals dont like to stick in this cartridge - leading to leakage, lockout failure and eventually no dampening, but this is a cannondale issue that theyve had with all headshoks (ive seen my fair share of manitous and RS JUDYS in the shop for the same problem so its not even cdale specific) | | Similar Products Used: | there aint nothin like this | | Bike Setup: | 2002 cdale f800 lefty magura julies on my way to xtr with some nice yellow salsa grips just to switch things up a little, mich supergripper on rear with whatever holds air on front | | Bottom Line: | the bottom line is reagardless of the prblems ive had with it, its still sweeeeet and if you complain about it i will hurt you because you have no reason to :) im the one with a weepy fork it still rather carry it than ride anything else (not to mention when i do ride it, you aint seen nothin like it)
as far as the bike rack thing... buy yourself a jeep, if you need a rack on the roof of a CAR to get your bike to where youre riding youre not hardcore enough to be worthy of this fork :) as far as the computer goes, get it on the back, how often is your front on the ground anyway?!?! the ability to have a tire changed in under 2 min is well worth the inconvenience of needing an extra 3 feet of wire.
any questions? feel free to e-mail them to me. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Illinois Date Reviewed: November 11, 2001 | | Favorite Trail: | Kettle Morraine, La Grange | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Purchased At: | RRB Cycles | | Strengths: | It has as much travel as a heavy free ride fork but it's half the weight. 100 mm's of travel in a lightweight fork. What a deal! Very strong, lockout feature is great! You don't need to take the wheel off to change a flat or put on a new tire. | | Weaknesses: | Squeeks a little bit, not enough to bother me though. No quick release, takes a little longer to get the wheel off. Disc Brake only( I consider this an advantage, others with V-brakes might not, I don't care what anyone says, disc brakes are much better) Also, $$$ if purchased aftermarket. Need to use coda or new woodman hub if you want new wheels. | | Similar Products Used: | Lower end Rock Shox forks. | | Bike Setup: | Cannondale Jekyl 900 sx W/ full XT, Coda components, Lefty W/ manual lockout, Fox Rear shock. | | Bottom Line: | Excellent fork, great travel, light weight, lock out, a little expensive but well worth it. Squeeks a little. Disc Brake Only. Coda or new Woodman hub only. The best fork I've ever ridden. If someone tells you that it you lean to the left or right because it's on one side, don't listen to them. Cannondale made it so that it's balnced perfectly. I love it and would recomend it to anyone who likes to mountain bike and ride hard. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The Gomers who say it rides funny because it is one sided have never ridden it. I weigh 220 lbs and if the fork were going to flex, twist or otherwise track funny, I would have seen it! The Fork tracks better than my Rock Shox. There is far less twist and flex in this fork than almost any other out there. Buy it, you'll love it!!!
The Fork is Outstanding!
I don't know about buying it aftermarket, but I highly recommend it as a part of your Cannondale Bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

It does XC racing, XC riding, Urban riding, Dual Slaloming, and is even good on the road with the lock out (but Lefty is pointless to have if you are locked out all the time). Basically, if you don't mind people staring at it (or if you like that), and do lots of types of riding, this is the ultimate fork. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia Date Reviewed: June 25, 2001 | | Favorite Trail: | Too many to mention | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Purchased At: | Kim Teik Cycle | | Strengths: | The Lefty tracks true, soaks up terrain undulation, big or small...providing a plush ride & yet for a tall fork, the Lefty doesn't bob even on steep climbs, provided it is properly set-up which isn't difficult to do.So far,I have not found any need to use the lock-out, even on climbs. It's a mental insurance to know it's there though when the need arises. | | Weaknesses: | I know there is a fork adaptor for use on the bike rack when transporting the bike but it's still a hassle when it comes to wheel removal.Sometimes when re-installing the wheel,I have to be careful & precise with the alignment of the piston calipers to avoid disc brazing. For the price, one would expect an air pump(for the Lefty) supplied with the F2000 & extra yellow coloured cable-ties as we need to remove the fork boot to service,re-lube & inspect the sliding fork shaft for contaminents from time to time.Apparently there has been some complaints of electronics durability of the ELO & warping of the brake disc due to Cannondale's use of only 4 rotor screws on the hubs. This may be a saparate issue but the hub/disc are attached to the Lefty & may indirectly tarnish the overall performance of a Lefty equipped bike! | | Similar Products Used: | There isn't anything like it on the market...yet.I believe there's a prototype from USE that looks similiar, featured on a Specialized Stump Jumper at the Las Vegas Interbike Show. | | Bike Setup: | Came with my 2001 F2000 Team Replica Hardtail.Dumped the XT components, Cannondale cranks/seatpost & XT 9 speed for XTR components, cranks,Thomson seat post & Gripshift Attack 8 speed.Replaced the Cannondale(made by Rigida)rims with Mavic 317's.Swapped the Syntace VRO/bar combo for the 120 mm length 35 degree Si Stem & CT2 Easton Bar. | | Bottom Line: | The Lefty fork may look "weird",unbalanced & take some getting used to but prejudices aside, all it takes is one ride on a Lefty equipped bike & you'll get over all that! You would never look at 4" travel fork the same way again! Besides the hassle with wheel removal,I really couldn't find any fault or problem with this fork...yet!It's easy to set up(just follow the manual & fine tune from there)& the performance more than makes up for the minor irritation. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Nothing left to say, except that this fork is pure fun, everything you may use it for. And Spinergy is coming for a lefty specific xyclone wheel.
PS: Please stop crying about bike computer installation: Simply let the computer cable run along the brake cable and fix the sensor next to the hub. Then fix the magnet on the disc. I never had problems with this installatin.

It eats up big hits and lets you just cruise over stuff that use to eat me for breakfast. Easy to adjust the air pressure. Once you find a setting you like your gonna love this shock. The adjustability is great. It has a lock out that I thought was a waste till I decided to try it on a climb. It really made a difference. | | Weaknesses: | Limited to type of bike carrier you can use. Have to use a certain wheel on the front. | | Similar Products Used: | Rock Shox, Cannondale Headshox Fatty SL | | Bike Setup: | Cannondale Super V 700 SL | | Bottom Line: | I am very happy with this fork. I thought it would be a little weird riding the bike, but after about 15 seconds you suddenly realize that you don't even notice the single sided arm. I have hit some big stuff and kept riding. In fact, I had to learn to stay on the bike after I hit something because I kept thinking I was going over the handlebars when the shock was still absorbing the impact. Now I love this shock. The lock out comes in handy on climbs and is easy to operate. This setup has made this old mans riding days last a lot longer. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Some people complain about the weight, some complain about the flex, some complain about the inability to use a specific bike rack, whatever.......
The bottomline is that this fork is extremely plush. It is infinately adjustable. It does not flex what-so-ever. You also get the added benefit of Cannondale precise steering.
I weigh 250 pounds and this fork has held up to my riding. I am not a casual, passive rider. I ride hard! This fork sucks up everything.
The flex that people complain about is either not real or caused by the Coda Expert wheel. That wheel is very light, very flexy. Change the spokes to stiffer, thicker ones and the flex is gone.
Get over the bike rack thing. It is OLD technology to take the front wheel off. Get a modern bikerack that holds on the seatpost (Hollywood) or any number of racks that hold via the crank or tires. This is also better for your bike.
I have friends that ride Specialized, Klien, Trek, GT, ect... When they ride my bike they are instantly inpressed with the fork and its performance. Chatter bumps are no problem, dips are no problem, jumps.... This does not have the travel of a downhill fork, it is a crosscountry fork, keep that in perspective.
The real bottom line (in my perspective) is that this is the best fork made, period. It is extremely light, infinately adjustable, has a lockout for those hills, and very durable. What more do you want? Oh, and 100+ mm of travel!
This is the real deal! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
