Favorite Trail:East Mountain turnpike tunnel downhill
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:shop employee deal
Strengths:Strong frame, great east coast woods geometry, excellent for urban assaults, high bottom bracket great for jumping and going over logs. Great bike for technical twisty singletrack XC riding and descending.
Weaknesses:High bottom bracket also bad for high speed pursuits. More BMX styled top tube length tough for larger folks. No disc brake tabs.
Similar Products Used:name the hartail and I've tried it.
Bike Setup:Manitou X-Vert super 100mm fork, Profile BMX platform pedals, all XT and Sram 9.0, Avid V brake stoppers, big Tioga XL saddle, Azonic shorty 80mm stem and answer riser bar, 2.1 Tioga DH factory tires with Sun Rhynolite rims
Bottom Line:This is my second bike (I have a Intense Tracer as well). I've used it for normal XC rides, extremely technical woods riding, urban assaults, even the occasional DH race. It rocks it most any application. The new breed freeride hardtails are most probably more built for abuse, but the Beast has never let me down and I ride as aggressively as I can muster up. These new breed hardtails definately hasve there roots in Beast style frames of old. I wish Cannondale would continue showing the East Coast love and produce them again.

Date Reviewed: August 6, 2001
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $900.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Strenght, light weight, USA Made
Cannondale quality
Weaknesses:Stiff ride
Bike Setup:All XTR, IRC Mythos 2.1, SDG Ti saddle, Syncros Ti seatpost, Cook Bros. skewers
Bottom Line:A good bike to start on...deciding how much you like the sport. Rigid bikes are much cheaper now...

Plus its big fun to hammer your friends on their $2500 FS bikes with this rigid rig...everyone equates $$ to trail ability. Forget it its all in the legs and lungs.
