$5500.00 | | Purchased At: | Bike House | | Strengths: | Frame, Shock, Headset, Bars... | | Weaknesses: | Anything with Coda on it. | | Similar Products Used: | GT, Trek etc... | | Bike Setup: | Bike setup now is: Stock frame, lefty, bars, stem... Thomson seatpost, Team seat, Shimano XTR Cranks, XTR front Deraliuer, XTR rear Deraliuer, XTR BB, Shimano SPD mud shedding pedals, Hayes Discs, Hope Bigun' rear hub, Mavic 321 Disc specific rims, DT spokes, Salsa rear skewer, Continental town and country's, Dura ace chain, XTR rear cluster... other nice little odds and ends. | | Bottom Line: | The bottom line is:
If you live in Australia you are going to end up paying around $5,300 - $5,500 AUD for a great frame... Take everything with a Coda mark on it and bin it. This Coda stuff is garbage, total garbage.
My 2001 model year F 2000 was supposed to be delivered with Hayes disc brakes... however, when it got here it had Coda discs on it! I paid the same price and I got Coda crap! I was so unhappy with the brakes and the whole situation that I paid another $1,120 AUD for a new set of Hayes brakes!
The Coda cranks flex and bend and are pretty much pointless... so, another $1,000 AUD for a set of much better Shimano XTR cranks... add the Shimano XTR front Deraliuer for another $220 AUD. After all that was sorted I decided that I couldn't trust the rear hub and may just as well get rid of the flimsy looking rims (all Coda)... add another $260 AUD for the Mavic rims (awesome units) and $520 AUD for the Hope bigun' hub... next thing to go was the totally sh*t Coda rear skewer, replaced with a Salsa unit for about $70 AUD... Change the tires for another $150 AUD and the seat post for an extra $200 AUD...
After all this I have a totally awesome bike! It looks very cool and goes very hard... stops well too!
The point is, I shouldn't have had to replace all the Coda stuff as it should have been stuff I could trust in the first place! After a bad (and I mean really bad) experience with the Coda cranks and the rear hub I decided that this was not a bike that I wanted to be out in the wilderness and have to depend on... so I changed everything to ultra dependable gear. In the end I paid $5,500 for a frame and fork! A very nice frame and a very nice fork but NOT worth this sort of money.
Oh, and by the way, Cannondale's customer service must be the worst I have ever experienced! These guys couldn't give a flying f*ck at a rolling doughnut! I hope that they monitor this site as I would love them to know that I am actually telling people what I think!
Don't buy a Cannondale, save your money and order one of there very nice frames and spec it yourself, it'll be cheaper for you in the long run.

$1800.00 | | Purchased At: | Neworld Cycle | | Strengths: | - Very light bike - only 22 lbs. - Disc specific frame design. - Disc brakes are very easy to adjust. - Best front suspension system around... very tunable... NO stiction and you can lock it out on the fly! - Splined crank/bottom bracket. - 18 speed (rather than 24) is a great combo. - Sealed bearing CODA hubs and headset not "sealed system" bearings! | | Weaknesses: | - Tires wear out way too fast. - Expected better performance from stock brake pads. - Brake levers too close to bars (I am 6' tall and ride a XL). - Rims could be stronger. - Low quality skewers. - Pedals break easily - replace right away. - Chainrings are a little soft. - Need special tools (Cannondale specific) to remove cartridge from fork. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek, Specialized, Klein, Rocky Mountain, other Cannondales. | | Bike Setup: | - Thomson Elite seat post with CODA leather/titanium saddle. - SRAM Rocket Halfpipe shifters. - Bontrager RE-1 pedals. - Modified reach on brake levers (very easy to do) - Switched to CODA cintered metal brake pad kit (much improved over the stock "Green" pad). - Ride On gear cables. - Cannondale used to have 4 "vent holes" in front fork, now they only have one... I added (drilled) 3 other holes and use these to grease the 88 needle bearings. Do this once in a while and you'll never have problems with corrosion. | | Bottom Line: | By far my favorite bike, ever. A true performer for the money. If you plan and buying this bike and want to do some jumping and thrashing around, or if you want lots of suspension travel up front (with sloppy steering) this is not the bike for you. This is a lightweight, nimble XC bike. It may only have 70mm of travel up front but it's very precise and only weighs 2.8 lbs! Buy it, upgrade a few components and you've got yourself a serious XC bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1200.00 | | Purchased At: | BroDeal | | Strengths: | Lighweight Forgiving ride damn that black is cool Headshok Disc brakes Good parts | | Weaknesses: | Seatpost bent in 50 miles Headshok Hisses What color of Ugly is that? Rims bend fast | | Similar Products Used: | Dean Aermet, DBR WCF Vertex, Schwinn Moab 1 crmo, Bontrager Privateer, Fisher Mt Tam | | Bike Setup: | Race Face cranks, ESP Woody 9.0sl groupo, Hugi disc hubs, Grimeca discs, Bontrager Mustang rims, Time pedals, Control Tech post, otherwise stock | | Bottom Line: | I really love this bike. I demoed one back in June, and bent the rear rim instantly. The pinned seam did not hold well and fell apart. I bought myself the new 2001 model last month. It rides almost exactly like my Bontrager did. The top tube is nicely laid out though. I did not like some of the stock items that the bike came with, so I switched them out right away. In the first 50 miles, the Cannondale Competition seatpost bent back, and progressively got worse until it was unrideable. I enjoy the frame being disc-specific, it gives it a nice ride, shaves weight, and looks cool. I really like the way Headshok work, they are more precise than any other light fork on the market, and ooooh so smooth. The only complaint there is that it hisses when I hit really big bumps, maybe just air coming out of the boot? I got my bike in the new BBQ color, flat black with black decals. It looks very stealth, and is cool, but sometimes when I look at it, I wonder what Cannondale product designers are smoking. My bike with upgrades is heavier than the stock bike, but is bombproof now. This is my first purchase of an alloy bike (Mt Tam was given to me on warranty for broken bontrager) and I am pleased to say, that I like Cannondale aluminum just as much as all my older steel bikes. This is a great purchase if you take the time and a little cash and switch out the CODA brand stuff. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Huntsville, AL. USA Date Reviewed: June 12, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | K3 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | Very light weight, Climbs great, Much smoother than 98 F2000. New disc specific frame design is very compliant resulting in smooooth ride. Disc brakes work perfectly and are easy to adjust. Headshok is maintenance free and has no stiction or noticeable flex. Very cool blue color. Complete hot rod for a modest price. | | Weaknesses: | Tires are expensive and are only good to sell to someone else. CODA Pedals suck. Big chain ring bends like butter, requires upgrade to stronger aluminum. Seat is pretty, but too hard. Chain flys off of chainrings too easily in rough terrain when you are not pedaling. | | Similar Products Used: | 98 Cannondale F2000 | | Bike Setup: | Serfa grips, WTB Kevlar seat, CODA suspension seatpost, Michelin Wildgripper sprints, CODA bar ends, Speedplay Frog pedals, switched brake levers around like motorcycle. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is confidence inspiring. The headshok is rock solid, maintenance free, and performs perfectly. The disc specific frame design makes the bike ride much smoother that previous Cannondales. Very lightweight and responsive. Bike climbs like a mountain goat with a bottle rocket shooting out it's butt! Nine speed, double chainring drivetrain works great as long as it is tuned correctly. The chain does have a tendancy to come off of the big chainring and rap around the right crank on rough descents when you are not pedaling. The big chainring also bends waaay too easily. Cannondale should have put the more expensive chainring on the bike. The CODA pedals are worthless along with the tires. For the money you will not find a better equipped, hot rod XC racing machine. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Oakville,Ont, Canada Date Reviewed: May 28, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | Hardwood/ still looking though | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Strengths: | Very light and nimble/fast enough. The headshock is very responsive, and easy to maintain. Bike is simply laid out for maintenance. The disk brake work well, but not as well as hayes disc. | | Weaknesses: | Bottom bracket/ shimano ultegra is squaking like a noisy toy poodle. new one coming. Hutchinson mosquito tires are designed for the moab or dry dry hard pack conditions. Tires are generally useless. | | Similar Products Used: | Stumpjumper | | Bike Setup: | stock for now/ small changes in the works.Tires, bottom bracket, chain rings. considering shiftgrip 9.0 Sram setup. | | Bottom Line: | I would really recommend this bike, the weight at 22 lbs gives one an instant edge for the weekend racer or others. I bought it for the weight/price combo. It is hard to touch at this value. I'm having trouble with cannondale in replacing my bottom bracket. They seem too enjoy wearing me down instead of servicing me. I love the slick paint job, it's like a sports car. It makes you want to keep it clean. Do they sell touch up paint?. The light simple frame should make it very upgradable. I would definitley check your size though, I'm 6'0 tall and fit well on an extra large. If a light hardtail, with decent components is what you want don't think twice.Buy it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from washington, st. Date Reviewed: March 2, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | mission creek | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Strengths: | Light weight and handling for a modest price. The disc brakes took a couple of rides to bed in, but they stop well and have excellent rider feed back. Climbs great and decends as well as most full suspension bikes. Plush all day ride. I'm 6ft.2in. 220lbs. and this bike has handled all I throw at it so far. | | Weaknesses: | The tires are lame, but thats a minor point. The skewers are of a very low quality. I changed to Salsas. Thats all I can gripe about. | | Similar Products Used: | Fat City Cycles. They build great steel bikes. | | Bike Setup: | Only changes are Salsa skewers and Easton Monkeylite ct2 bar. My shop added the 3rd chainring for nothing. I'll changes the tires this weekend. | | Bottom Line: | Lightweight and climbs like a goat. Ditch the stock tires for your favorite brand and your ready to go out and play! Great value. This bike will make a great privateer cross country mount. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

That's about it. | | Similar Products Used: | Devinci Chili Pepper and Trek elite 9.8 | | Bottom Line: | Great overall bike, because it's very lite and well equipped, the prices could be a little bit lower but it's not to bad considering the quality you get. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Santa Monica, CA Date Reviewed: December 9, 1999 | | Favorite Trail: | Hard to say. | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | Excellent handling bike. Cannondale redesigned their geometry last year and this allowed me to fit the bike. It handles much better than the Caad 3 I had some years ago. The Head Shok is the best fork. It steers incredibly well, you can lock it out for a sprint, and is very smooth. Most people complain about the lack of travel but this is an XC setup. The seat stays are disc brake specific and this allowed Cannondale to make them smaller in diameter. This makes for a very smooth ride. The bike is awesome. I have the XXL size and it weighs 22lbs. | | Weaknesses: | Wheels needed frequent truing during break-in period, pedals, switch to 747 or Time. Tires wear fast. That's it! All minor stuff. | | Similar Products Used: | Seven Sola Custom, Trek OCLV 9900, Klein Pulse 2, ( the real Klein), Cannondale Caad 3, Klein Rascal. | | Bottom Line: | I bought the bike mainly to check out the disc brakes and I truly did miss the rigidity of the Head Shock. I was so impressed after the first ride. Climbing, descending technical singletrack, everything was awesome. I love the acceleration when you lock out the fork. This is my favorite bike. Complete bike for less than the price of my Seven frame! | Overall Rating: |

from hk Date Reviewed: December 9, 1999 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | very light bike. great forks, i used to have rock shox and they flexed a lot, so steering was not very accurate, but with head shox, they are a lot more stiffer.the brakes are really good compared to v's and normal hydraulic rim brakes, i haven't compared them to any other dics yet. | | Weaknesses: | had gripshits added to it at the time of purchase and mavic cross max dics. maybe its the shop, but the gear changes aren't very smooth and it sounds quite loud when pedalling.the tires look nice, and they ride pretty well in the dry and corners well on roads, but they don't last long, on my first trip i rode around 20miles, and the knows on the rear wheel are half gone. i didn't lock up either! | | Similar Products Used: | cannondale m900, rock shox sid xc, magura's | | Bottom Line: | great all round bike if set up properly. very light for a bike with suspension, but it can still get light with more exotic components | Overall Rating: |
