Favorite Trail:anything hilly, all i see
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:lbs
Strengths:It was cheap.
Weaknesses:Stayed loose.
Similar Products Used:Ritchey
Bike Setup:08' Specialized Hardrock Pro
Rhyno Lite rims
Saint M800 rear hub
Saint M801 Rear Derailleur
Thompson Elite seatpost
Race Face Chainrings
DMR V8 Pedals
FSA Orbit XL 2 headset

Bottom Line:The only reason I bought this was because it was cheap. From the moment of installation it was loose. My lbs did install it. Wouldn't recommend doing anything beyond the road or it might fall apart.

My advice is don't waste your money.

Weaknesses:None. I've just ordered my new CC-STS.

Bike Setup:Alum-7005, shimano R-550 wheelset, full-XT.
Bottom Line:Exxxxcellent headset.

Favorite Trail:Chamna
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $12.00
Purchased At:Jenson USA
Strengths:Easy to install and cheap.
Weaknesses:None yet.
Similar Products Used:Other AheadSet and threaded headset.
Bike Setup:Litech 17" Magnesium/SRAM X.O Components/RockShox Duke SL/Bunch of other stuff
Bottom Line:I have ran the crap out of other headsets and they are still going. I feel if you take the time to lubricate and clean a headset once a year and it still turns, then it is good. I use a lizard skin headset seal and I have never had a problem with a headset. I do not see the need for spending $$$ for a headset, they all do about the same job.

I would give it a 4, because there are nicer ones that I have tried, but to even up the score for this I will give it a 5.

Submitted by Nick Reid a Cross Country Rider from Berkshire, UK
Date Reviewed: March 11, 2002
Favorite Trail:Haldon Hill, Devon
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:Standard Equipment on bike
Weaknesses:Durability
Bike Setup:B1 Weblite DD, standard spec.
Bottom Line:Have had the bike for a year, and the headset needs replacing now. This leads me to conclude that the long-term durability of these headsets is poor. After about 150-200 miles riding, water got into the headset (which, to be fair, I did nothing about). Now the action is rough, and the headset needs replacing rather than stripping and maintaining.

Obviously, anything on your bike will last longer if it is well looked after, but a lack of maintenance left this STS AHeadset sorely wanting.
