Bottom Line:
Straight up these pedals are the closest thing to being clipped in without actually going SPD. Landing off camber or even crashing sideways, your feet will NOT slip off the pedal. To reposition your foot you have to lift off the pedal because the spikes hold so well.
Also, they work as freakin' bottle openers.
All in all, the pedals are the best platforms out there. Also, they all come from the OG shop in Brooklyn, just 4 dudes who all ride. Who can't support that?

These are incredible pedals. Bmw did a great job on bringing the weight down on these. I have put mine through hell and they have held up great. I love when people shy away from riding your bike because of the BMW's. I love it!!
Weaknesses:
They are cast and then the centers machined out not a huge deal but worth mentioning. The first generation Shinburgers were totally machined and had a beer opener in them. One negative the cast surface on the tops of the teeth don't grip as well as machined edges. I have filed all mine through the casting marks so they are even grippier. Make sure you keep your black end caps tight. Once they are tight you will never have a problem but the end caps are what keep pressure on the pedal shaft and keep the pedal body from feeling loose not the threads on the shaft. They only use one sealed bearing with a large contact bushing but this is not a bad thing. Its kind of an innovative set up that seems to handle abuse very very well.

I have used the Azonic platforms, 50/50, and plenty of others that don't even compare. I DH and dirt jump and these are the only pedals that I would recommend if you don't want your feet slipping. This review is for the BMW veggie burger, which is the shinburger with four huge pockets machined out of them. It brings the weight down a lot, but it also makes, I think, the pedals much grippier. With a set of five tens or other soft sole, the pedals stick as good as SPDs in side loads. Totally awesome on the trails. Plus the brooklyn crew is mad chill.

These pedals have seem some Knarly rockgardens for just over a year now. They have been on my P3 and my Scream. I have tried others and scrapped them all...Kona Jacksh*t / 5050xx....none survive more than 2-3 days. BMW barely look used they have stood up so well.

Strength and reliability. Stick to your feet like glue! They never break like every other brand does. The bearings don't fail or stop working like every other brand does. "Pins" are so burly, they never need to be replaced or thought about, they just keep on stiking for years. If you ride flats you won't regret these. I always wear shin and knee pads, you should too if you ride flats.

These are the best!
I just ordered my second pair. And to my amazement they improved them even more! Brooklyn Machine Works took a lot of weight out of the originals, that I still love and still ride. The reduced weight make these the best flat pedals on the market. Every other pedal out there, even the finest name brand is cast. The cast pedals are very fragile and will snap into pieces if you hit a rock hard enough, which eventually happens. These are CNC machined out of a solid block of metal. They do not break. The "pins" are huge and you can hit them on rocks for years and they still hold you in. I have two pairs and may get a third! I had to order direct because no bike shop or mail order seems to be able to get them any more. So, just call the company directly and once you talk to someone (it took me a few calls), they show up at your door in a couple days. How cool is that? As far as price. I've been replacing crappy pedals for years and spent way, way more per bike on pedals than I spent on a single, never need replacing Brooklyn pedals. Therefore they are an incredible value!

These pedals grab onto anything you put near them. Both your shoes and your shins! They are not joking when they say that shinpads are required, even the slightest slip which may not do anything to you on any other pedal is like putting your leg against a cheese grader with these. This can be a negative or it can be incentive to land everything! Some think they are expensive, but the quality is fantastic. If you like to play rough then these are for you, if not look elsewhere.

Far better grip than pin pedals. With sticky rubber shoes like Intense, almost like being clipped as per lateral slip. Wide platform plus slow rotation makes slip-off recovery very easy.

So I just got this fixed-gear road bike. I bought these pedals thinking they were gnarly and I didn't want to start on a fixed-gear with clip-ins.
I get going on these things and head down my town's steepest and longest road. My cranks spin like mad and these pedals go from foot platforms to blade-wielding kitchen appliances. My dangling legs got hurt pretty bad.
So yeah, they really are gnarly.

These pedals are amazing. I ride in Doc Martens boots (8 hole, cherry red) and because the soles are rather worn they slip on other flat pedals I have tried. The Shin Burger anchors them foot on the pedal. In fact it took some getting used to, I occasionally had trouble removing my foot from the pedal.
