Favorite Trail:ALL
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:Pricepoint
Strengths:Super fast, awsome cornering,Great climber in hardpack, very predictable slider, suspension like casings absorb all kinds of impacts with minimal pinch flats, wear like iron.
Weaknesses:They are a semi slick and arent great climbers when it gets slopy and they can be down right deadly on whet roots.
Similar Products Used:Pannaracer mach ss and sk
Bike Setup:Moots smoothie and litespeed tellico
Bottom Line:It would be great if this tire was still made.I have put these tires through more off road hell than satan himself and they never fail to impress me.There are definitely times when these tires will make you fear for your life.
All around these are the best tires I have ever owned and I cant wait until the trails dry out enough to put them on.They are so very fast and supple with great cornering. They are awsome in just about any terrain other than sand, loam and wet rooty. They are good in moderate wet and muddy conditions but they realy shine in tacky hardpack. You can carry so much more speed with these tires than full knobbys that it allows you to clean and clear more terrain with less energy. These things also stay very clean and pick up nothing off the trail. They can be run at a wide range of pressures from 42 to 28 depending on conditions and have great pinch flat protection. They are very predictable and can be pushed farther than you think and when they do let go they still slide very controlably often with no ill effects. They are an absolute blast to ride so if you see a pair and love crazy fast buy them.

Strengths:Long life! Used for two years on cement, gravel, rocks, ice, snow, and running from pimps when I won't pay up cause imthemeatstick!
Weaknesses:Will undoubtably put you on your butt, there is a learning curve for semi's
Similar Products Used:lots of IRC's before I got addicted to semi's
Bike Setup:00 Supercaliber, spinergy, lite durable stuff.
Bottom Line:FAST!! These have been my main just go out and ride tires for two years now. I ride them in mud, ice, snow and cross town to see my...girl.
Not really a race-lite tire but you don't ride racing tires everyday. You ride good tires that don't pinch and pack mudd.
These are just great buy with confidence!

Purchased At:hilo bike hub
Strengths:fast, side knobs dig and hold, file tread has adequate traction for hard pack
Weaknesses:none...but you must get Kevlar bead...wire is too heavy.
Similar Products Used:many
Bike Setup:03 NRS Custom...FAST.
Bottom Line:This tire has been my little secret with my riding buddies for over a year. Its just the ticket for my local riding areas. I ride in hardpack with mild elevation changes, basically fast trails. The rolling resistance with these tires is unreal. I ride with them at about 30-35 psi and they hook up 99% of the time. When I need to corner hard (to pass a huffing friend) I lay it on edge and dig it in (much like skiing, where my athletic background is the strongest.) These tires are not for mud or wet conditions that are loose. You will be on your behind if you arent careful.
Bottom line: These tires have made me a better rider with more finesse. I wouldnt swap them out for any other SS. And yes, I will be a repeat buyer.

After the fun I put back on my front Myth. and feel in love with the combination. It has all the speed and grip I need. Have ridden big bear up!!! and down no problem. Aliso woods hundreds of time. Cleaned everything from Mathis to Rocket, yes ROCKET with this set up. Downhill is not squirelly or scary. If you want a to go to a Semi Slick, buy it. If you can find them????. Bottom Line:These tires let you go fast and they offer great traction when cornering. If you need traction when not cornering (i.e.,riding in mud, slick rock, etc.), then don't be stupid, that's not what these are for. I use these as my "fair weather" tires and Hutchinson Mosquitos for the messy stuff.

Duration Product Used:Tested or demo'ed only
Price Paid: $27.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Appear to be well made. Designed for a specific use -- going fast.
Weaknesses:Specially important to inflate at least 40 psi -- makes for a bumpy ride. Cannot rotate front and back -- limits useful mileage.
Similar Products Used:Geax Hubi 2.0, Specialized Mt. Baldy 2.1
Bike Setup:2002 Intense Tracer w/ Fox F100X and Fox Float.
Bottom Line:I don't race, just like to go fast for the heck of it, hence my purchase of these tires. I must say, I did not like the rough ride of 40 psi 1.9 tires but am afraid that is non-negotiable. Also, not being able to rotate tire fron-to-back is a minus. On the plus side, these are well made tires and am sure they will give lowest rolling resistance possible. My personal preference is to stay with a good set 2.1s and 30 psi.

Purchased At:Cambria - price is for a pair
Strengths:Low rolling resistance; fast; decent traction for a semi-slick.
Weaknesses:None that I've found yet.
Similar Products Used:Numerous full knobs - this is my first slick/semi-slick (unless you count the tire I use on my trainer).
Bike Setup:Klein Attitude with Bontrager Revolts, etc.
Bottom Line:I've used the Jones' for years and have always been impressed with their performance. I've set my hardtail up for paved/gravel park road usage when the singletrack is too wet. I bought the Revolts a few months ago thinking they would increase my speed and still have enough tread for an occasional singletrack poach when needed. I have been impressed with their ability on singletrack; as long as you have good technique you can maintain decent traction. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to try to climb a super-steep rock-laden trail with them, but on most intermediate or less trails these things will work fine.

Strengths:Light weight, fast and smooth rolling
Weaknesses:Problems with second set blowing off the rim
Similar Products Used:Michelin, Kenda, Specialized, Hutchinson
Bike Setup:Cannondale Super V 700SX, XT components, Mavic 317
Bottom Line:Light weight and low rolling resistance. They offer more traction than I expected from a semi-slick tread design.

I've ridden almost 3000 miles on these tires (2 sets) with no problems, until now that is. I recently mounted a new set and the rear blew off the rim while inflating, and once while riding. The one that blew off the rim while riding was on flat and soft terrain. Some of the hills I ride on are close 40 mph, not a place I won't blow a tire off the rim. The tire blew completely off the rim, instant and total deflation. The tube rapped around the cassette locking up the rear wheel. After close inspection of the tire I noticed that sections of the bead were missing some of the rubber that forms the bead and locks the tire to the rim, not good.
I've been riding for over 10 years and have never had this kind of problem.
I've switched to Hutchinson, and have not had any more problems.
If you're planning to buy these tires or are cuurrently using them you may want to inspect the bead for damage.

Bottom Line:I just bought two front tires (don't ask) and weighted them.
Susprise! One tire is 560gr, another one is 600gr.

Honestly, I was aware that all people lie once in a while, :) I just wanted to let other buyers know that these tires could be light or not light depending on your luck. To me, the weight was one of the reasons of getting them -- go figure. :((

So I you are buying these at your local bike store, I'd recommend to please ask the seller to weigh a couple of tires before you decide.

Since this is not really a review, I'll pick the rating values just not to tell on the overall produce rating (4.31 jr something).

Just in case, the tags on both the tire boxes are 100% identical:

Revolt SS
49/53 front
black 127 tpi
kevlar bead
530 grams

the other part of the box goes,

part no 62848

Bar code 6 0147900272 6

Hope that helps.

Bottom Line:I just purchased these tires(Front and Rear) and was a little worried at first about the traction I was going to get. No worries, hit the trail after a day of rain and they hooked up very well. The only mud I had trouble with was the clay kind and some loose sand. But man on the hard packed stuff I flew like Speedy Gonzales and left my buddy behind most of the time with his knobby tires. They are great on pavement to for a ride with the wife and kids. Bike Setup:Univega 600 Alpina, Manitou 6 Delux, RF NEXT LP, XT/XTR, Avid disc/Mavic 317, Thudbuster/Terry Fly, Easton CF straight bar/thompson stem.
Bottom Line:This bike sometimes doubles as my commuter and these tires (at 60 psi) literally cut 5 (or more!) minutes off a 30 min ride. On the trail (50 psi) they are SCARY fast; but I am not sure if they are just that fast or that they are so squirrelly at speed that you get scared. Seriously, these tires stick to most terrain and have the potential of improving technical speed and DH section speed; however, these tires will not act like your old low tech knobbies. Over dry roots these tires act like knobbies on wet roots. And on wet roots… look out… its like riding on ice. Nevertheless, I have to agree with the Bont marketing dudes in that if you learn how to ride on these tires, you will go fast. There is a learning curve on these tires. If you do not know how they will respond, these tires will put you on your “sit-upon!” But learn the ways of the SS and you can corner on rails and bomb on the DH. Bottom line: Increased speed and the wider grin associated with aforto mentioned boost in speed makes up for the occasional lateral slide on a root. (going to try 45 psi and see if that helps the root thing)

Buy two pair. If you ride on the road, the itty-bitty little knobs will wear in 50 miles. I am not sure though if these li’l itty-bitty knobs matter on the trail. Most likely not.

PS. Misjumped a curb an completely buckled the lip on a (brand new!) mavic 317, yet the tube did not snakebite. Have to attribute this to some black majik in the Revolt tire.

good cornering, You should buy these tires if your riding at least 80% of the time in road or regular hard pact sand trails.
Weaknesses:not too good on loose dirt. if your just a trail rider, don't even think about purchasing these tires, you'll wind up on your ass.
Bike Setup:Trek 6700, clip on shimano pedals, cat eye cordless computer,
Bottom Line:Real good tires, a little expensive, but you pay for what you get. Like i said before, these tires are meant for someone that rides on road or hard pact sand, they are not meant to be taken off road to a trail, way too slippery.

Bike Setup:Fire XC front, Revolt SS rear
Bottom Line:I LOVE the rear tire. I don't like the front... too sketch.
The REAR tire offers excellent traction and unbelievable pinch flat resistance. I have heard the rim hit rock many times and have bent a 517, but no pinches (I weigh 170). In fact, it's been so good, I won't take it off and try something new because maybe it has some magic pixie dust in it and I'll let it out and it will become just a regular sucky semi-slick... who knows? I bought this tire just before I moved to AL from SoCal (don't ask) and it is not (in my opinion) a good tire for those "loose sand over hardpack" SoCal type trails. So use them in their element and you will like it.

Strengths:These tires are really fast and work great on hard pack conditions during the summer. I also use them during the winter when I go on a fitness ride during the winter on pavement. Pump them up to 65 lbs of air pressure on the road and run them down to 40 lbs of pressure on the hardpack single track. I have to admit that I was very skeptical of these tires in the beginning because I had never used a semi-slick tire off road during the summer. However, these have proven themselves to be great!
Weaknesses:None. I take these off during the winter (unless I am riding of pavement)when I go off road on put on some Geax Blade tires--good for mud. If you use these tires for the purpose intended you will love them. I should mention that these tires will get a little squirley on gravel.

But then they wore out and I got these badboys. Im in shock at how nasty the bite is. As long as you keep that izzass down and that hizzead and tizzorso low to the stem and top tube, its impossible to spin these baddies out. I went up a really, lose dry sandy trail near my old cali home and they chattered a little when it got steep, but somehow stuck. Downhills are just sick. I was working my brakes to the limit to slow down before technical sections (after running flat out on the easy downhill) and I have discs. The cornering is tight. Far more predictable than the mt. baldies (which were pretty smooth to begin with) and on par with far more aggressive tires. You gotta buy these if you can. Cheap, light, unstoppable. Word.

Traction
Weaknesses:As before ... wet, wet, wet!
Bottom Line:This is a follow up to my earlier review ...

Now that I've had a chance to use these tires for awhile I have to admit that I love them. They are very fast and seem to roll forever!

When the consistently wet weather returns I will put my old Velociraptors back on but, in the meantime, I'm going to enjoy these tires as much as I can!

If really wet weather (and, especially, snow) isn't a concern for you, then seriously consider getting these.

For dry conditions, my rating is ...

Strengths:i bought one today (back tire) on sale for 19.99 took it outside by the front of the store and installed it. it went on very easy.fit perfect on rim. i started the 20 mile return trip to Alameda. about 10 feet after i started i was startled by the change in the way my bike ride felt, at first i thought something was wrong with the install or i have forgotten to reattach something but after about a block i realized the that the tire was working perfectly and what i was feeling was the incredibly smooth ride the tire had. it was so different than anything i had ever experienced that i thought something must be wrong. by the tine i got home i was already making plans for my return trip to the bike shop to get the front tire....the difference between the revolt tire in feel, handling, cornering confidence is equivalent in my opinion is about the same diff. between vw and a porch.
this tire is so different than any tire i have ever tried it's hard to believe. after just one day I'm sold on it for good. as a matter of fact this is the first time i have ever experienced this an so much so that I'm taking the time to type this review, which is something i never do but am doing now. i can't believe these guys are selling this tire for 19.99 . i think this tire will push the the top performance limit (or what was the max i could push the bike befor)up about 20% to 25%

Less than 1/2 mile into my first ride with these tires, both tires lost traction while I was making a slow turn through an intersection. I went tumbling, my bike is a little more beaten up and I'm going to go home after work and switch to my other tires. I've encountered both with these tires and in those conditions only does their performance become sketchy, but since they were not designed for that type of riding it's really not a product flaw. I've picked up 5-6 mph on my top-end while descending, only loosing a small amount of climbing efficiency. I'm constantly amazed (as are my riding buddies) at the hills these tires maintain hook-up on. I can't wait to try them in Moab. During the 'snow ride' we saw quite a bit of mud and I had no problem getting through it on the Revolts. They seem no less effective during hard braking than full knobbies too. Five flaming whatevers for overall semi-slick performance, and since I was able to score the set for $20.00 F.F.W. for value as well....

Bottom Line:These tires are good if you don't have to do a lot of tricky descending. I find that on super fast non-technical trails these help a lot but on technical trails I spend more time correcting myself that I do flying on the flats. Remember you will still go fast regardless of what tire your using on hardpack these are just a little faster. I find my favourite tires for racing are a panaracer mach ss on the front and a michelin sprint on the rear it works way better and can handle a lot more technical riding than these tires. but the super x's is realy fast and grips pretty good.
Don't ever get confident on these tires because they don't stay hooked up at all. The other thing I have to say about these tires it seems the steeper the trails even if it's not technical the more oyu have to slow yourself down early or else you'll blow the next corner and stack hard.
Watch out if you buy these the will problably end up costing you more time than you will gain from using them. I know you have to be a very good bike handler and be insanly smooth when riding these tires or else these will cause you lots of trouble. save your money and buy some mach ss/sk's or sprints instead, they grip way better especilly the sprints feel more like a knobby, and they're very close to being as fast.

On the whole though, it did what it was supposed to, so I can't gripe.

In the end I liked it but needed more control, so I replaced it with an ST, which tips the balance a little more from "speed" to "grip" and suits my riding better. But if you can handle'em in your terrain, the Revolt SS's are good tires.

Bottom Line:

I have tried five different pairs of tyres of my bike in the last year. This has been expensive, so I hope that this comparative review of my experience with these tyres helps you make a better choice first time. Some Taiwanese no name dual purpose tires:
Heavy, not good on any terrain, a sod to get on and off the rims, couldn’t get shot of them quick enough.

Specialized Fear Master/Control: (kevlar 127tpi 1.95”)
Light. good traction on the rear. Good control on the front. Predicable in everything from mud to tarmac. If you don’t know what the terrain is going to be like, these are a good safe bet. Lasted for 1200 miles. The only reason I will never ( and I mean never ) buy them again is that they were unbalanced weight wise. Enough to cause the forks and frame to vibrate violently at high speed. The shop said that this must have been badly pressed in the factory. Who needs that when your racing against some psycho out there in the back of beyond!Panaracer Spike: ( kevlar 1.9” )
A very terrain specific tire. Truly fantastic control and traction in anything from swampland to soft mud. That said, there not safe on hard ground, and are positively lethal on tarmac. This is one time when you should heed the warning printed on the tire: Not For Road Use. No-shit-sherlock! So much so, I can’t use these tire, no matter how hard it’s been raining the night before, as the trails I ride all have some sections of tarmac. Going to keep them though, for when it snows hard.WTB VelociRaptor: ( 2.1” )
The rear has great traction in the mud; although when the mud is like clay, the wide width of this tire cause the mud to build up in the frame around the brakes and the wheel drags to a complete lockup. This is when I realised that 1.9” tires are definitely better than 2.1” in the mud. Piss poor control from the front tire. Predicable on any terrain only in the sense that I know it’s going to washout. I expected more from WTB. Michelin Wildgripper: (1.9” any colour, there all the same compound, so the guys in the bike shop say )
This is now my chosen knobbly tire for wet off road terrain. Safe enough on tarmac, predictable in soft or loose conditions; and it’s balanced! I didn’t think that the stud pattern on the rear was going to give good traction, but it does. This is the tire performance that I was expecting from the Specialized Fear Master/Control tires.Bontrager revolt SS: (2.1 front, 1.9 rear)
Light. Extremely low rolling resistance. Fantastic cornering ability on hard and dry ground of any type, including grass. Allowing you to really lean into those corners until your knees touch the ground, and you power out the bend with an elated scream of relief. These will stay on my bike from May to October. These tires are only made in 2.1” for front, 1.9” for rear. This sounds stupid at first, but don’t let it put you off, it really does work well.Summery:
Use Michelin Wildgripper: 1.9” for soft or loose conditions. (5 star)
Use Bontrager revolt SS: for any terrain in dry conditions. (5 star)If you would like to see some MTB photos, you are welcome to visit my home Smeg Site at www.antx.freeserve.co.uk

I was skeptical about semi slick too but got them anyway because the best way to find out whether they work is to use them. I rode the local trail which is mostly hard pack and the slicks tract as good as my old knobbies on seated granny climbs. They floated predictably on rocky downhill where knobbies won't give anymore traction anyway. These tires slow you down pretty good too when braking. The fun part comes when the ground goes flat...time to go smooth and really fast! It does need some getting used to like clip in paddles, but given the right terrain, they work great!

I have ridden a set of these tires for 1 year now, in many different areas and conditions. Most of what is said about them below is true, including that they are light and really fast in the right conditions. But in loose dirt and gravel look out! They will still hook up when doing high speed turns in these conditions but you have to get them way over to do it. They also will force you to become a better rider on steep slippery climbs but they can do it if you can. If you do a lot of switching back and forth between road and trail riding and don't have an extra set of rims or the desire to switch tires frequently, these guys will get it done for you. Also I have many miles on mine and no sign of wear out yet. I also weigh 175lbs. and no problem with flats.

Any type of loose soil on the downhill run is going to cause some alarm when you realize you ain't stoppin'. I may give them one more try with some Mr. Tuffy tire liners because they do roll super fast. One flat and they are for sale with 2 rides on them. Send you best offer if you can get past the low rating. They may work for you. If you fit the composite for these tires 150lbs and ride real light) and keep in mind Keith makes good stuff, but these are not for me. One star because they don't work for me.

Before I tried these I thought the semi-slick thing was just a bunch of hype and that good old knobbies were the only way to go but stop picking up gravel and sliding around corners and get about 10 times faster on these. I really could not beleive the speed difference of these tires compared to knobbies, I promise you that you will feel the difference, these things are fast!!! They grip great on hardpack and mud and with the low rolling resistance you get a much better ride. Try'em you'll like'm. Viva Keith!!!

Well, I took the time to read some of the review that you folks have posted. And, big surprise, these tires rate like everything on the face of the earth. Some like em' and other do not. Personally I like them. Where I live you can go from the most hardened single track to inches of sand in a blink. The only way to make it with these tire is go all out. Those of you who gave them a chance realized what I did; there is a learning curve. If you get aggressive and lay them down in the corners you are on your way. If you think you can just lolly-gag through the corner you are going to be in for a big surprise. I say, give them a chance. Happy ridding.....

Had the SS rear for about 3 weeks. It replaced a 2.35 kevlar
Z-max. I liked the z-max a lot for its float, but my new frame
didn't really have clearance, and I wanted to use the same
rear tire for both my commute and weekend rides. I just change
out the front wheel- one wheel has a fat boy, one has a Dart
comp. So far I like the SS a lot. I am amazed at how well it
works off road- it really climbs great, rolls fast, doesn't
seem to have any bad traits. It likes higher pressure. I ran
the z-max at 35 psi, but the ss has a lot less volume. It works
pretty well on-road, too. I got a big chunk of glass stuck in
the smooth-file part yesterday; I could here it on the pavement
as I rode... but I pulled the glass out and no problem. I used
to be convinced that massive tread was the way to go for some
of the really technical rocky steep stuff around here- but this
tire acquits itself quite fine. Usually it is very dry here,
but on a boggy ride last weekend, it also worked great- good
clearance, and didn't pack up like the dart or z-max. We'll
see how it wears with all the road miles... When I bought the
tire, I had to decide between the various slicks. The Ritchey
looked like a good tire- but it was pretty heavy, considering.
Anything I bought should at least weigh less than the 600g
2.35 ritchey. The michelins also looked good- but too expensive.

For what they are : semi-slick, 127tpi, kevlar tires, these babies are awesome. Very reasonably priced mail-order. They are very fast on pavement and hardpack. I love them because I can commute on dirt roads and pavement and then take them to the trails without a tire change. Very supple too. Will work in deep sand but are much better when same sand becomes damp and packed down. Rear wears moderately, front very good lifespan. They finally made a tire for on and off road.

The arguement can be made that those of us here in Central Texas have no business reviewing anything about mountain bikes. However, you change the definitive label from mountain to singletrack and we're in. I was initially skeptical about bald tires like the Revolt SS et al. but eventually could no longer ingnore the hype. As a Bontrager owner I went the Revolt route out of product loyalty and because of the aesthetic appeal of the simple tread pattern. My first ride was, in fact, Revolting. I was all over the trail and had pretty well decided these tires were, at best very trail specific (and to trails I wasn't riding). However, remembering how clumsy I felt when first riding with changes like clipless pedals or trigger shifting and how I now depend on such upgrades I kept the tires on the bike. After a break-in they met all the expectations and then some. They are fast especially on the flat hard stuff and are without equal in damp conditions. I have found that this makes for better acceleration out of corners and better top speeds most everywhere. They will drift some in dry loose cover but it's usually predictable. The only place I've found that the Revolts force slower than average speeds are in hairpin turns in dry loose conditions. This limitation is removed when things are damp. I can't comment on mud as I rarely ride it anymore. Bad for the trail, the bike and the teeth. I highly recommend the F/R Revolt set up for fast XC riding. Ofcourse no change/upgrade will make as much difference in performance as simply getting out and riding more!

First of all, correct tyre choice for the conditions is the name of the game. Its no good complaining that these (semi)slicks don't perform well in mud, sand , pea gravel etc. They aren't designed to. I use them for road use and dry hard pack trails and they're fine. The back sometimes spins going up v.steep paths so all I do is shift my weight further back. Having them pumped to the max doesn't help in this case but having them hard (and having them slick) is suited to my riding environment. Next week I'm going on some softer trails with the likelyhood of mud. The answer? PUT A SUITABLE SET OF TYRES ON. Use your brain and don't blame the tyre.

Fairly disappointed with the performance of these tires. The shop guy recommended them after I tore the knobs of a pair of Specialized masters, saying they were perfect for the hard pack conditions of Dallas. Granted, these things are very fast on hardpack. Be warned, however, that if you encounter loose sand or broken up dirt on hills or in turns, you will be in trouble. The front doesn't hook up, causing oversteer and crashing. The rear has to be really weighted on climbs, or it skids out. I'm trading these suckers out for something with some knobs.

1.I pinch flat on any and every tire, but not necessarily any more on Keith's.

3. light weight (rotational mass counts more!)
4. Learning curve is steep but brief. (like clipless pedals...?!)
5. You will become a better rider with slicks. Slicks force you to be more conscious of weight distribution and form. You can not rely on the tread to barrel through a section. YOu become more of a finesse rider.... but a little faster!!

I'm rating these tires as racing tires. These tires are fast. They are the fastest tires I've ever used. They are totally awesome if all you have is hardpack. They will even work in shallow mud. They are the wost tires I have ever used in sand or in deep loose gravel, like in a creek crossing. They are totally sketchy on loose descents and in loose gravel corners, etc- you had better be an excellent rider if you race these tires. DO NOT RACE WITH THESE TIRES where there are sharp or embedded rocks, jumps onto rocks or sharp gravel, etc. They will pinch flat again and again where other tires do not, unless you run so much pressure that they will not handle at all at speed on anything not groomed. If you're looking for more speed- these are fast. But flatting costs a lot of time in a race. Too much time. These are therefore special purpose tires that do incredibly well on 10% of courses, and can cost you a race by flatting too easily when even 10% of the course is very rough but very fast. Thus 2 chilis is the best I can do.

There is a lot of hard pack now that El Nino's gone with a thin coating of dust, sand, gravel, poison oak oil, etc. on top. The SS performs much better than I thought. It is very fast (rolling resistance) despite its big footprint. I would guess that I'm 5-10% faster with the new tire combo. Cornering is very good - better than what Bontrager led me to believe. Straight line braking is reduced a little which you should keep in mind. Like going back to cantis. Soft soil performance is not too good, but you knew that. I had WTB Velociraptors and felt the front tire was not secure while cornering even though they are quite famous and expensive...Bought a pair of Revolts SS and I am eager to enter the next Cross-Country race. They obviously do not have the same grip as normal tires, in steep and technical terrain you have to adjust and be prepared for some slippage, but I have found that I am now able to use the center front chainring and going much faster than with other tires. The risks and riding adjustments are totally compensated by the gain in overall speed. These tires are not for beginers; are for XC racing. Still no idea how they will perform when the rain comes.

I just tried out these tires in a rec. race and a couple of training rides. Depending on the type of soil your on they grip extraordinarily well but they are pretty slippery over smooth roots, etc. A plus that seems to take some gitting used to is the fact that they slide, but slide predictably. They are at least a gear or two faster than full knobbies on hard pack and they climb and descend a lot better than expected, but on off-camber corners that 'predictable' but manageable slid comes into play.

I don't mind my rear to be a little sketchy but I want the front to stick like glue and the TE Team Controls have traction coming out the Wazoo. I set a PB by over 30 seconds on a short 3 km sprint course I have been doing for the past 2 years. The course is fast, rolling, non-technical, mix of sand and hardpack. Definitely a more supple tire, but I didn't notice a huge difference in rolling resistance, much to my surprise. Got a LOT more pinch flats than any other tire I've used, even with fairly high psi. I got one flat, rolled maybe 10 feet, and discovered that those ten feet had cause my rim to cut through the very thin sidewall. So I put my IRC Mythos back on the front...This was a GREAT combo! Rolling resistance seemed lower, and traction was good in all conditions.Lession:
1. You probably get most bang for the buck just putting the SS on the rear.
2. Use Kevlar tire liners and high PSI to keep down the number of flats.
