Favorite Trail:Tunnel
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:Azonic
Strengths:They work as intended
Weaknesses:There are lighter pedals out there
Similar Products Used:Welego's
Bike Setup:2005 P1
Bottom Line:I have beenusing these pedal since they first came out. I believe the first set had a spindle break. But Azonic replaced them without issue. I have since had 2 other pair with no issues. They were purchased in 2001! I have ridden hard and done NO maintenance to them. I would reccomend these pedals to any one. May try out the new 420's now, just for weight reasons.

Strengths:- good grip
- easy to service
- silver ones look great
- silver finish is very durable
- tough pedals
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:- Syncros Mentals (amazing)
- Daredevil (Devinci brand, low quality)
- Snafu BMX (bearings didn't last)
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Heckler ano silver, Sherman Flick Plus, DHX5 coil, Hadley/Velocity/Singletrack wheels, Hayes El Caminos, RF NorthShore DH cranks, Azonic A-Frame pedals
Bottom Line:Great pedals for the price. I've been using the same set for 4 years now, and they've been on 4 different bikes. they started out as my DH pedals, but I got some Syncros Mentals, so the A-Frames are now on my trail bike which sees more ride time than my DH bike. I can't believe how durable they are. I periodically pull them apart and pack them with grease, and that's all the maintenance I've ever had to do. They've seen a ton of ride time over the years, and the original bearings are still smooth, and the spindles dead straight. I've never even had to replace a pin. I have the silver ones, so they wear great, and still look almost new. Great grip, depending on the show you're wearing as well. Incredible value if you ask me.

Bottom Line:(A follow-up to a post I left a couple months ago). Daniel Burton (dburt@onealusa.com) from Azonic contacted me quickly after my posting here on MTB REVIEW and offered an even exchange of the pedals. Well they have arrived and I will give 'em a good work out this summer. I'll repost in a few months and see if this set holds up better.

Good customer service goes a long way and I would like to say thanks to Mr. Burton and MTB REVIEW. The manufacturers and companies do read the reviews on this website and our voices are heard.

Price Paid: $75.00
Purchased At:Sids Bikes NYC
Strengths:Great grip, replaceable pins, Look pretty good
Weaknesses:After a couple of years very light use (on my old BMX, then moved to my MTB) the bearings started to seeze up. Now they make god awful creaking noises. Tried to regrease but it made matters worse.
Similar Products Used:Shimano Dx - MX30, and numerous other Cheap platforms
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Chameleon, King kings, XTR
Bottom Line:For the price these pedals should be better made. The internal design seems to be really badly thought out. And at 75 bucks these things are too expensive. I would highly recommend lookin elsewhere for some platforms.

DX, Eastons or Crank Bros 5050's would be a better bet, if more expensive.

Strengths:Good grip, lots of pins
Weaknesses:Weak bearings, Terrible customer service from Azonic
Bike Setup:SC Bullit, SC VP Free
Bottom Line:These pedals worked great for the first few rides (I rarely rode them over 3 years), but after the 5th or 6th ride on them I had a noisy bearing, as others below mentioned. I tried to remove the dust cap and found it to be cracked, distorting it and not allowing an allen key to fit. I emailed Azonic, no response. I emailed them again, no response. I called their home office, no response. So I'm stuck with a fairly new set of pedals that I can't use.

On a side note, a friend gave me an old set of his A-Frames that have seen severe use and they work great. I guess it's the luck of the draw regarding the bearings.

Strengths:-Excellent grip
Weaknesses:-pins should be screwed in deeper than they are
-base pedal is fairly soft aluminum
Bottom Line:The bottom line is that these pedals offer excellent grip. They are pricey, but so far, they have been worth it to me. I use them for XC, urban and a handful of freeride and DJs. I bent one of the pins on a rock. Well, the pin is still straight, but the aluminum that its screwed into is mashed. I feel that the pins need to be inserted further into the aluminum base. Maybe this would decrease the chance of bending a pin in the fairly soft aluminum of the base.

Strengths:Awesome pedals, strong as hell, they grip like no other I've ridden
Weaknesses:I need to replace half of the pins, because they keep falling out. It started within a month of buying these pedals, and it just keeps happening. Maybe I should locktite them, but for a $70 pair of pedals, you wouldn't think you'd have to worry about that.
Bottom Line:Overall, great pedals. I'm just frustrated with all the pins falling out. They grip like crazy, and are strong too. I'd say buy them, but locktite all the pins. A friend of mine got some before I did, which is how I found out I liked them, and he hasn't had a single pin fall out. So maybe I just got a defective pair. I dunno. Would I buy them again? Probably.

Price Paid: $50.00
Strengths:Slim design, so you don't often "roll" the pedal and lose your footing. Sleek looks, the ladies love'em (I guess). Affordable price point. Spending >$50 for a pair of designer pedals that you will smash on rocks and beat the living hell out of is just stupid.
Weaknesses:Absolutely none, they are tried and true.........very durable.
Similar Products Used:Primos, Atom Labs (No complaints on Atoms, they're just a bit too pricey).
Bike Setup:v10, Monster, Block 8 crankset, blah blah blah. Who cares, I ride hard.
Bottom Line:These are awesome pedals. All the other reviews will attest to that. But here's something you probably won't hear much about.

After nearly 5 years of downhill I finally just wore out a pair of A-frames. The frames themselves were still in decent condition, but the bearings and end caps were shot. One call to the good folks at Azonic and a new bearing set and end cap set were in the mail to me.....no charge. How cool is that?! Kudos to those guys. They really deserve props for paying attention to those little things in our riding lives.

I'm totally amazed to be honest --- best part is if you are into urban hucking you can just remove one side of the pins for slides.... or you can grind them all off but it'll be a rude stop the first time you screw up like that. Favorite Trail:Peak 2, Tagaytay
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $44.00
Purchased At:brand new from a friend
Bottom Line:I did a lot a research before purchasing these pedals. By research, I mean I first observe my friends going downhilling with their own pedals, i decided that which ever has a set that lasts their can of hard riding, then it would certainly last my more subtle style.

So after about 5 or 6 months of riding, most of them already went 2 to 3 sets of pedals except for those using the azonic a-frame. One guy even did a monster drop, resulting to a bent crank and bent bottom bracket, but still, his azonic a-frame pedal was straight and true.

So I decided that it was the pedal for me. a pedal that offers a good grip and a pedal that will hold up to a a lot of abuse.

Bottom Line:Bottom line. Give platforms a try. I could not believe how much better it is to not have to worry about clipping in or getting your foot in the toe clip. I thought I would be constantly moving my foot into the right place, Nope. I had to readjust a little bit after going through some slow washboard. It was also a huge plus when you have to get going on the upside of a hill. For a while I was thinking that pedals like this would not be OK for cross country. These proved me wrong. Like I said just plant the foot and get to pedaling. My only real concern was the idea of getting my shins eaten by the pins. Solved with a pair of knee/shin guards that I should have had a long tome ago. I like these so much that my next ride will have platforms on it before leaving the shop for the first time.

Bottom Line:GOOD GRIPPY PEDAL
IF PINS WEAR OUT YOU CAN BUY NEW SCREWS AT THE HARDWARESTORE

SHINBURGERS ARE A LITTLE BIT TO RAW FOR MOST PEOPLE,THIS IS THE NEXT BEST THING.

Favorite Trail:Sandy Heath, London
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $60.00
Purchased At:Evans, London
Strengths:Very strong and very grippy
Large - good for big feet!
Smooth and well sealed
Good value
Weaknesses:No spare pins in box
Similar Products Used:Shimano DX / Gt DX / various Wellgo and VP DX copies
Bike Setup:Identiti Dr. Jekyll 24"
Bottom Line:It's hard to get Azonic stuff over here in England, so I bought these pedals first time I saw 'em. They very grippy, almost too grippy if you have dodgy knees and need some float! The pins are lethal in a stack so wear some shin pads. The A-Frames are a good size too, lots of pedals for your feet to find so no slipping off in the mud, or missing the pedals on no-foot airs. They look very trick, seem well sealed and feature some great machining.

Highly recommended, and much better value than Easton Cully's or that DMR V-12 rubbish (which is rebadged Wellgo with a fancy powder coat).

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $70.00
Purchased At:Web Retailer
Strengths:-Good looking
-Plenty of pins
-Sealed bearings
Weaknesses:-Noisy
Bottom Line:Great pedals for the price. I had to tighten the axle bolts a couple of times because the pedals kept making annoying creaking noises. I also managed to smack the pedal on a rock, bending one of the pins. It took forever to remove the damaged pin

I love most of Azonic's products but I can't say that the A-frames were spectacular, just good. Definitely worth the money.

Favorite Trail:Anywhere Anytime
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $72.00
Purchased At:Local Bike Shop
Strengths:Strong, good build quality. Wide platform. Those pegs!
Weaknesses:Those pegs! Watch out shins! Plus, you gotta tighten 'em down a little once you get them...I lost one the first ride, but haven't lost any since.
Similar Products Used:None. Can't find those darn Shimano MX30s and I just had to lose the clipless Times that came on the bike.
Bike Setup:'99 Giant XTC SE1, XTR drivetrain and Shimano XT Discs on Mavic 223s, Marzocchi Z1 CR.
Bottom Line:Great pedal, really strong, but watch your shins. If you aren't careful, okay, even if you're careful, you'll eventually get a shin-ful or calf-ful of Azonic pegs. Ouch! A bunch of the guys I ride with use 'em with no complaints and we primarily ride XC, with urban freeriding starting to get popular now.

Definitely a good choice for someone who does a lot of XC riding and isn't afraid to get off the beaten path and throw in some technical freeriding.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $80.00
Purchased At:Bike
Strengths:Great sealed bearings, super-stiff, really grabs your sole when in the air, fat design plus the fact that it´s AZONIC!!
Weaknesses:Haven´t found any yet!
Similar Products Used:Club Roost, bad bearings
Bike Setup:99´ Kona Pahoehoe
Bottom Line:This is a very good flat indeed! It´s large(very large) and sticks to your sole due to the pegs. I´ve done lot of trials with´em and that worked great, but you must have shinpads cause the pegs can hurt you pretty badly.
They works great for downhill, ds, trials, practicly anything tough. They take abuse without complaining!!
Ride em hard!!

Favorite Trail:Soquel Demonstration Forest
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $60.00
Purchased At:a guy i know who sells new parts
Strengths:great grip from pegs. strong body. no flex. and best of all, looks awesome!
Weaknesses:you cant screw in the pegs farther than they come. thats weird because sometimes you wanna ride shorter pegs. you can do that with the easton cully's
Similar Products Used:easton cully's, sun-ringle zuzu's, wellgo cheapo's, primo platforms,
Bike Setup:heckler, z1, sunringle suv wheels, azonic pedals, race face stem, azonic wf riser
Bottom Line:these are great pedals at the price. the only better pedal is the easton cully's but those are at least $120. a-frames are around 60-80. thats much less. and the allen screw pegs grip like a mother. too bad you can screw them in farther than they come. easy to remove and replace though. these pedals grip to any shoe you wear, whereas other pegs like the flat smooth ones like on primos or sunringles only grip to vans style shoes with the soft bottoms. a-frames grip to anything. you should buy these for many purposes, dh, ds, urban assault, trials.
