Favorite Trail:FOD
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:AY-UP.com
Strengths:Tiny tiny lights, very lightweight, simple design, almost indestructable, long burn time, great support from the guys in Oz. THE BEST batteries in the world bar none.
Weaknesses:None provided you read the manual.
Similar Products Used:Cat-Eye , P7 Cree
Bike Setup:Trek8000ZR hardtail, Ay-Up Intermediate on handlebar, Ay-Up harrow on helmet. They are so light I never take them off.
Bottom Line:Built by bikers.

Don't worry about the price, honest. Buy these anyway, even if you have to live on beans on toast for the next 6 months. The smile these will put on your face is worth it.

Can bike lights be sexy ? Ooooh yeah !!

Favorite Trail:Bump Track, Far North Queensland
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $380.00
Purchased At:AyUp.com.au
Strengths:Small, well engineered, light weight, bomb proof, an awesome amount of quality light
Weaknesses:Using zip ties on the handle bar mount, I run three bikes and find changing the handle bar mounts a pain.
Similar Products Used:nightpro pro elite
Bike Setup:Schwinn Straight six with Marzochi 66sl, Norco Firball and a roadie
Bottom Line:I ordered mine the week before the Mont 24 hour, AyUp website was showing no MTB kits available. I rang spoke to the guys and had a kit minus the bag inside 36 hours. Awesome service.

On the trail they are fantastic, great throw, a bright white light and very light weight. They force you to flow as you are able to look so far down the trail.

I am now riding more often as with great lights winter riding has been easy.

Every rider should own a set of these, honestly I am amazed that people still buy other brands.

Strengths:light
bright

Weaknesses:rubber bands break
Similar Products Used:cateye
Bike Setup:trance 1 08
Bottom Line:Still by far the best value for money you can get. I researched for months before finding these. Waterproof, adaptable, lightweight, spare parts easily available, good customer service, new innovations, easily upgradeable...They save money by not over powering their LEDs, thus not needing expensive heat shedding shell designs. they also save by not spending heaps on optics, they just put the most powerful LEDs in, and then give you a discount when its time to upgrade. They put the big companies to shame with customer/riding focus

Submitted by unplannedismounts a Cross Country Rider from Wombat Forest, Victoria, Australia
Date Reviewed: June 22, 2009
Favorite Trail:Wombat Forest Trails
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $245.00
Purchased At:ayup.com.au
Strengths:Bright, tough, lightweight, small, long burn time, relatively cheap. Aussie product!
Weaknesses:Minor gripes - handle bar mount uses zip ties, removing and re-attaching it can be a hassle. Kit pouches can become a tangle of neoprene and velcro.
Similar Products Used:Niterider
Bike Setup:Kris Holm Mountain Unicycles (MUni) - 20", 24", 29", 36"
Bottom Line:6 months after the initial purchase I'm still happily buzzing around the Wombat Forest at night, mountain unicycling with the Ay Up's.

The lights work as advertised - low weight, bright, tough, small, long burn time, Gecko helmet mounting system, and oh yeah, don’t cost a fortune.

All round, a great light set for mountain unicycling.

Favorite Trail:Stromlo, Wingello
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $316.00
Purchased At:AyUp.com.au
Strengths:These like are great. They are small and light, yet bright. The light casing is tough. They are still the best value for money I could find. AyUp customer service is excellent. Gecko helmet fitting is a great addition. Kits have well selected products combinations.
Weaknesses:I can hardly fault this product; however there are some product improvements that I can suggest. The neoprene wrapper bag is a pain in the butt. I threw it out and replaced it with a toiletry bag that fits everything perfectly.
The rubber mounting bands get lost easily as they are a separate piece. A great improvement would be a gecko “clip in” style of mount on the handle bar mount.
I received a faulty 3 hour battery. It only held about 20 minutes of charge. Although I waited 5 months to contact AyUp, they replaced the battery under warrantee, no questions asked and they payed for the postage.
Similar Products Used:None.
Bike Setup:Trek Fuel Ex9
Bottom Line:I love my AyUp lights. I spent allot of time researching my options before purchasing. I could not find any other product that could compete, unless price was not a factor. Mountain bikers always use a handlebar/helmet combo, yet no one else seams to offer the packaged kit. AyUp has done a great job here. I would like to see the gecko helmet mount included in the kits in the future, as its way superior and makes the old cable tie fitting obsolete. Hopefully we’ll see a similar “clip in” handle bar fitting that doesn’t require the rubber band mount.

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:AY UP UK Website
Strengths:These are light, bright, submersible. The first time I used them I had to remind myself that I was riding at night. The combination of one light on the bars and another on your head is perfect. The three batteries for two lights is a great idea meaning I only have to charge the batteries every three 2hr rides or more.
Weaknesses:no lower power mode or battery power meter.
I didn't like the weight of the battery on my head so I used the extension cable included in the pack to put the battery in my sack.
Bottom Line:Top Lights! Excellent service from the UK Website, shame they've been shutdown.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $320.00
Purchased At:ayupusa.com
Strengths:Very bright white light, lights and batteries are amazingly small and weigh just about nothing. Battery life is exceptional and the mounts are solid and well thought out.
Weaknesses:None what so ever!
Similar Products Used:These are my first lights and I'm glad I found out about Ayups before purchasing others.
Bike Setup:Trek 6700 hardtail and a Yeti ASX.
Bottom Line:You can't go wrong purchasing these lights. Very bright and high quality of white light with a great spread. High quality build, lightweight and nice looking. Lot's of spare parts in kit for mounting. All at a super price for what all you get.

I am very pleased with this purchase and easily recommend Ayup lights to anyone.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $400.00
Purchased At:www.ayup.com.au
Strengths:Ease of mounting. Price good. Light weight. Easy to point. Compact. Good lighting with the three beam options. Customer service is second to none. Can mount four lights on the bars easily, and could have four on my helmet too if needed (instead of just the single paired unit).
Weaknesses:The silly "sausage" packing. The 3hr battery that I have needs 50mm more cable to mount it further back on my helmet and thus down lower out of the way of branches. While I have a helmet with a light permanently mounted, I'd prefer not to leave the mounts permanently on the bars. If one does leave them on the bars one needs a small cylinder to hook the rubber over thus keeping tension on the rubber. Otherwise the rubber light retainers can fall off.
Similar Products Used:Vistas, a home made job and a swag of single light HIDs costing twice the price of two pair of Ayups.
Bike Setup:Carbon NRS, Fox F100X, XTR drive train, Stans Olympic n A/Classic wheelset, OroPuro brakes, EC90 bars and crankbros pedals. Ayup spot on the helmet, intermediate and wide beam on the bars.
Bottom Line:My HID was a pain to set up and weighed a ton, it was a hassle despite the huge amount of light it threw out at a great distance.

The Ayups are hassle free by comparison. Andrew (Mr Ayup) provides some of the best service of any product (including outside of cycling) I've every bought. My three pair of lights shine where I need them and have great run times.

Two pair are okay. Three pair best: two pair on the bars and one pair on ya noggin.

Purchased At:Direct from Ay-Up US
Strengths:Weight, Size, Brightness, Durability, Easy of Use, LOOKS, Fun Factor
Weaknesses:Permanent handlebar mount (its small but I'd still prefer not have a permanent mounting.
Similar Products Used:Dinottes, Nite Rider Trailrat, X2, X2 Dual
Bike Setup:23lb Air9, Voodoo Canzo 29er, Salsa El Mariachi SS, TCR Composite
Bottom Line:I couldn't be happier with this setup. ZERO REGRETS! I was a little hesitant to order with a claimed lumen output of 320 per set (640 total). One of my riding buddies has the Dinotte 800L/400L setup at 1200 total lumens. I was expecting his lights to completely overpower mine. WRONG! We both feel like the Ay-UPs are brighter.

Excellent Lightset for the weekend warrior and hardcore racer alike.

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $280.00
Purchased At:Direct
Strengths:Superb battery life which exceeds rated longevity
Lightweight (both batteries and lights)
Bombproof
Lightning fast delivery
Superb manufacturer support
And they kick out a damn good amount of light!
Weaknesses:Expensive, but you do get what you pay for
Halogen has a nicer spread of light than LED
Similar Products Used:32W NightPro Kamikaze Halogen
Bike Setup:2006 Marin Nail Trail HT
Bottom Line:Attend any endurance event in Australia which runs at night and over 90% of riders use Ay-Ups. Why? They are lightweight, crashproof, generate a superb amount of light (especially with the Cree LEDs, even the older Luxeon LEDs were pretty good). The manufacturers are also avid sponsors of events, and provide a charging facility for their customers, in addition to allowing potential customers to trial their products during the race.

I ordered a set at 4:30PM one day and it was in my mailbox at 8AM the next day, you can't beat that for turnaround! In addition they are an Australian designed and engineered product that really is one of the better exports I've seen lately. No dramas at all, they are one of the best purchases I have made in my entire life!

Strengths:Freakin' ridiculously light and small! Long burn time. 3 hour battery went about 3:20 during first use. Easy set up. Small. Extremely bright. 2 batteries can be charged at the same time.
Weaknesses:What's with the wetsuit packaging? I tried for about 30 minutes to get everything back the way it was when it was shipped, but I gave up and threw it all in a big Ziploc bag. That's a waste of money. Not having that crap could save at least $20 off the cost....though I do like the little bags the lights come in so they don't get all scratched up.
Similar Products Used:Princetontech Switchback 2. Lots of old halogen setups.
Bike Setup:Titus 29ers....SS and double squish.
Bottom Line:These suckers are bright. Both of my AyUps are intermediate beams and they are freakin' bright. I purchased the kit to put both of them on the handlebars (me and wife) and I use the Switchback 2 on the helmet. I wish I had purchased 2 AyUp kits.

Favorite Trail:Rocket Frog
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:Ay Up
Strengths:What's not to love with this product. The lights are extremely well built, light and most of all super bright. A choice of three beams: spray, medium, spot. The kit comes with two lights, meaning you can pair a spray unit with a spot - for ultimate lighting of the trail. Recharging time is minimal and the battery packs are light and small. Comes with all the mounting hardware you'll ever need and also very well packed in its own kit.
Weaknesses:Absolutely none!
Similar Products Used:Tried them all.
Bike Setup:I take them from my roadie to my trail to my downhill rig.
Bottom Line:If you want the very best, these are it. Very professionally finished, packed and the follow up service is outstanding. The guarantee everything. Our transformer died, and after a quick phone call, one was sent out the next day - no questions asked.

The anodized finish is awesome, so get two different colours to distinguish the type of light beams you buy. The mounting hardware is excellent and really secures the lights in place.

Recharging time is minimal and also comes with a car kit in case you're away. So you can charge from your 12V accessory in the car.

We also use our lights as backups in case of blackouts and always take them away camping with us. The spray light under our tent annexxe works so well, it's like the lights in your house! So many other applications too. My brother-in-law who is an electrician uses them in house roofs when doing installs.

Bottom line is that this is awesome gear and if you're serious about riding in the dark - get these lights.

Favorite Trail:various in Wales
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $200.00
Purchased At:Ay-up UK
Strengths:Extremely light/compact, simple, you get a lot for your money, and very bright too. Having a light on the bars and on my helmet is amazing and I highly recommend it.
Weaknesses:You have to use cable ties for the mounting (but you can buy the gecko mount for the helmet as an extra - which i may do in the future)
Similar Products Used:Lupine Edison 5 (great light, but too many things kept going wrong), Sigma Evo, basic SMART lights.
Bike Setup:Ellsworth Epiphany, DT/hope wheels, Formula Oro brakes, SLX/XT/LX gears, Thompson/EA 70 finishing kit.
Bottom Line:After having loads of ball-ache with the Lupines, I decided to opt for something simple/bombproof, versatile, yet still bright. These fit the bill. They are very bright, very very light, easy to use, long battery life, the charger lets you charge two batteries at the same time, and more. I'm not too bothered about the helmet mount being permanently on my lid, but the gecko mount may be my next purchase just to tidy things up a bit more.
I recently went out with mates, one used lumicycle halogens, the other lupine edison 5, and I was very pleased with the light these gave out, and was able to bomb down my local trails faster than ever. Nuff said!
