Date Reviewed: November 28, 2007
Favorite Trail:Commuting, paved trails
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $27.00
Purchased At:JensonUSA
Strengths:Alumini construction. Very wide at 660mm. Good rise.
Weaknesses:Scratches and nicks will mar the finish, which typically is true for most anodized aluminum surfaces.
Similar Products Used:Stock steel hb that was original equipment on the bike.
Bike Setup:Kawasaki KDX2 full-suspension with Rock Shox Dart 2 fork, SRAM 7-speed with SRAM TRX trigger shifters and Arid Speed Dial 7 Brake Levers, Avid Single Digit 7 rear V-brake, Cane Creek headset, aluminum riser stem salvaged from a Jamis Dakar.
Bottom Line:Like the other big fella said, this extra-length handlebar is great for we XXLers. Even though it's a riser bar it's got enough straight length to comfortably accomodate independent trigger shifters and brake levers, as well as long grips. Plus, my grips are tight and sure; no slipping. The price was a great deal. Easton and Ritchey make fine [and expensive] aluminum handlebars, but Answer gives the best bang for the buck.

Strengths:WIDE WIDE WIDE..... Im Big 6' 1' i am big..... i actually found a set of bars that are decent price and Fit my shoulder width. Strong as all He.. finish is Very durable as with all answer bars Weight for a 20 set of bars is phenominally light.
Weaknesses:the finish is one of its strengths but a weakness at the same time. Its Kinda like a nonstick Frying pan. Grips like to come loose even when you glue them. Went to an Odi Rogue lock on and that fixed me right up
Similar Products Used:kore light Richey taper
Bike Setup:FR1500 witha ll good stuff
Bottom Line:Bottom line on these particular bars. If your wantin something really strong decent weight and big for us bigger guys these are your ticket. the str the width and teh angles just fit awesome. Specially i fyour a bigger person like myself... and if your not Just chop them down a little bit. Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $19.00
Purchased At:Supergo
Strengths:Bombproof
Perfect Rise
Weaknesses:Heavy
Similar Products Used:Tranz-X
Bike Setup:Kona Stuff, Marzocchi Z1
Bottom Line:I've had this bar for over 5 years and it's still going. I just recently transferred this bar from my old rig since it's just so damn strong. One look at the end of the bars and you'll see why. The walls have to be about 4-5 mm thick which gives alot of confidence. This is what makes the bar heavy in everyone's eyes but I don't really notice the weight. The low rise is perfect for me and I happen to like the width of the bar. If you're lucky you can pick these up for pretty cheap if you can still find them. These are perfect if you're on a budget but want a quality item that will hold up to any abuse.

Bottom Line:These things are wide! I cut 1.5 inches off of the ends to make it a regular xc width and I am glad that I did (Shaved 50g).
By them for the value($17), comfort and durability.

Favorite Trail:Slick rock, MOAB
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $45.00
Purchased At:Excel Sports
Strengths:Stong, NO FLEX, still absorb some vibrations. Don't rotate in stem clamp. Cheap- under $40 now. Good bend and sweep. Not too wide.
Weaknesses:HEAVY! At least over 350G. Shims cause snap, crack, and pop noises. Can't put plugs in ends- start a dirt collection in the bar-have to use grips w/built on ends but that's ok.
Similar Products Used:Azonic doublewalls (the flex scares me!).
Bike Setup:Kona Blast 2001 special (Pretty much the Chute frame). X-vert super, Raceface cranks, XT w/Sram Attack 9.0's, Hayes front cable actuated disk and Avid cable rear. Sun Ditchwich rims w/Real Front hub and Kona rear. Pretty much a heavy mother of a freerider.
Bottom Line:No problems other than creaking. Super deal, super strong. I trust these bars. Plus, Answer just makes good stuff. Don't need a brace - you'll never see a pro with a brace on these!

Just taking 1 chili off for the clysdale weight.

Date Reviewed: April 4, 2000
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:the strongest bar on the face of the earth, well priced, very heavy (a good thing in handle bars).
Weaknesses:not so easy to find in shops
Similar Products Used:azonic (SNAP!) TRANZX (SNAP!)anonymous Flat bars (SNAP, SNAP, SNAP!)zoom flat bars (SNAP!) CLUB ROOST, Profile Maniac (SNAP!)
Bike Setup:hardcore hardtail, hi5s, cromo frame, rockring, fsa sidewinders, 40mm stem etc.
Bottom Line:The most awesome bar on the planet. so strong that I was actually able to sell them 1.5 yrs ago and they are still going. They weigh heaps, but anyone will tell you that someone who buys downhill bars for lightweight will experience a very intimate moment with their stem when they break. They are the only handlebar, except for club roost , which I have not yet destroyed.

I have the answer alumilite handlebar. I put this bar on my Norco Rampage about two years ago. Other than the weight I have been satisfied. However, I am concerned about the creaking sound the bar makes. This occurs when I stand up and shift my weight to the front while hill climbing. I weigh 190Lbs. Is this bar about to snap? If anyone knows let me know. Thanks.

Bottom Line:

They are heavy but good bars. In response to the last poster, OF COURSE they do not warranty crash damage you dumb-ass. Answer was very nice about sending me a shim when I misplaced mine cleaning my bike. They are extremely stiff and do not need a cross brace which makes the weight more competitive. Overall, a very reasonably priced bar.

they suck..answer sucks..two year warranty my ass, if they broke in half in the store before you paid for them, maybe. Mine basically self destructed with the help of some answer hyper ends (also crap), one very small fall and the ends twisted the end of the bar off...answer's response was the warranty does not include crash damage, so what the f*ck does it cover, they suck no chilies, Control Tech Bars are lighter and cheaper

Awesome bar, I replaced the factory bar on my Trek with this bar and the bikehandles AWESOME. I los the shims when I moved, I e-mailed answer with my problem and they sent new ones out immediately. Great customer support. They deserve five chillies for customer support alone. The bars get 5 chillies from me.

Bottom Line:

Alumilite? They should be called Alumiheavy. Or, maybe Alumitank. Apart from this downhill bar being heavy and strong enough to use on a motocross bike, it's pretty awsome. Super stiff and no extra top clamp. Yup, it weighs tons, but for downhilling or freeriding (I hate that word), its just great. For steep technical riding, downhill bars are a must.

I have been running this bar for five months now and I have had no problems. Much lighter than stock and looks cool in blue. P.S I have a problem with people who say that they can snap a piece of aluminum tubing. Either you dont know how to install the product or you dont know how to ride.

Bottom Line:

Well I bought the hyperlight to go with the hyperends bar ends, and yea it
was light, but, Hell, the first off road ride I took it on not only did I bend it
but managed to rip the end of the bar like a cheap tin can. The guys at the
800 number, (company) seemed pretty cool and being as the bar has a two year
warranty they should be sending me a new one, we'll see. However, for $47
the bar should not break as easily as it did. It's a good bar if you have a spare .
I'll give it 2 peppers for now, but if the warranty service is quick and as
good as it sounds, I'll up it to four, cause it felt cool and was good and wide
which I liked.

Bottom Line:

I know I know, what's a cross country rider using a downhill bar for? Well I spent my summer
ripping up in alaska where I ment a total of about three riders all summer. This having been said,
the trails in alaska are hardly MTB friendly.
COOL!! LOts of realy steepy, gnarly, twisty shit. These bars made a huge difference. They open
up your upper boby in a way that totaly helps your balance. They're also supper stiff, so if you dig
stiff bars these are for you.
Downer: hard to cut down, oh well they're worth it.ciao
