a Racer
from cliffside park nj Date Reviewed: April 5, 2001
Favorite Trail:
secret
Duration Product Used:
More than 3 years
Purchased At:
custom built by Ted Wojcik
Strengths:
perfect build and fit. This bike is an Amp B-3 with a Risse Astro shock and Ted Wojcik custum front steel triangle, wrapped up with Judy SL(1999), XTR, CookBros., Cris King, Syncros... The bike comes in at 22 pounds 14 ounces!
Weaknesses:
It is a racer so I need to keep up with shock seals. Otherwise the bike is 100% perfect.
Similar Products Used:
I have a Gary Fisher and a Softride road bike
Bike Setup:
Total racing. The Risse shock tightens up flex in compairison to the amp Ti shock. I run 50lbs. more air than weight.
Bottom Line:
Whatever you have heard about Amp Research is biased bullsh*t. I have been dealing with them for 5 years now in various rebuilds, (shock, disc brake), to general questions. They are totally professional and have a high quality design. Notice how many manufacturers are returning to this simple design? As for the ideas that they are too flexable, ask yourself how heavy you are and what kind of riding you do? If you are 200+ and thrash, this bike is not for you. If you are 145 and thrash, OK. If you want to tighten up some flex, get a brake brace and/or a different shock. I have my Amp B-3 on a custom Ted Wojcik and cannot find any bike that gives a better performance in suspension, speed, balance, and overall ride. And at sub 23 pounds, it is sick light!
