The 1up USA Quik-Rack has more features than any other bike carrier. Fully assembled and ready for use. You won't get bags full of nuts and bolts to assemble. It mounts to your vehicle in 10 seconds with a unique corner expander ball that eliminates all wobble and play. To mount the Quik-Rack just insert it until it stops, then tighten the anti-theft security expender bolt (1-2 turns). That's it! No Hitch Pin or bolt to install or lose. 1up USA even provides the anti-theft security tool needed for the 5 second job. To remove the Quik-Rack just loosen the anti-theft security expender bolt (1-2 turns) and remove the Quik-Rack from the hitch. The one-of-a-kind anti-theft security tool and expender bolt prevents rack or Add-On theft. You can switch from 1-1/4" to 2" receiver in about 10 seconds with the adapter provided. When not in use it folds down in just 5 seconds and fits back in it's reusable box only 30" X 14" X 8" and weighs only 22 pounds. Small enough to fit in the trunk of your vehicle.

Solid, machined aluminum racks, Compact and easy setup, Fold against vehicle very compact, No plastic, Very well made, Very fast to load and unload bikes, MADE IN THE USA.
Weaknesses:
Price is high, but on the flip side, these racks will last a lifetime. The price was not so high I wouldn't invest in this wonderful product.

Bottom Line:
I am the mom of a fourteen year old boy with 2 friends that are crazy about biking, mountain and road and my husband who rides when he can. I have been taking the seats out of my van to haul all of our bikes and stuff around. I spent 4 months researching the new style bike racks, now that I need to haul so many bikes at one time. Most of my 4 bike hitch type choices were cumbersome in design and very heavy. Not getting any younger and attaching a 60 pound rack to the hitch several times a week was not appealing. Also, the steel construction with all the plastic of most didn't sit well with me either. I read every review I could find on all the hitch types. Had to settle on this model. I am sure glad I did. All racks (hitch rack with 3 add-ons) arrived in 4 very sturdy boxes within 4 days of ordering online. It took me 10 minutes to unload the boxes and 10 minutes to attach to the hitch and have my first bike loaded. The individual racks weigh about 16 pounds each and fold when not in use for easy storage. I will follow up on this review in about 6 months or sooner if needed. I feel confident this product will perform as advertised.

Made in the USA.
A very simplistic design with a no nonsense curb appeal. Dare I call it sexy?
This rack has helped me get on the bike more after fighting a crappy trunk mount.
Excellent engineering behind the design on the weight to load ratio and still making it sturdy enough to handle 2 or more heavy 29ers.
Even my better half will load/unload the bikes with ease.
Looks to be a great rear end collision safety feature, even in the up position ;-)
Weaknesses:
It might raise the unemployment in China while forcing Americans to reevaluate off shore manufacturing. J/K,.
I could grumble about the price, but I see it as an investment.
Guess I could nit-pick about the use of SAE hardware, lol.
Or when I tell family and friends the price and get that dumb founded look and the rolling of eyes.
Similar Products Used:
Not even close, more like a cheap off shore, dollar a day labored, pot steel trunk mount piece of crap.
Bike Setup:
DiamondBack Overdrive and the old lady’s Hybrid Marin.
Bottom Line:
The Kuat Alpha cost $350 less than a 3 bike set from 1upUSA, but only if you have a 2” hitch.
A correctly installed 1.25” Class II mount can handle 300#, yet max weight of the 2” Kuat version is maxed at 100#. The 1upUSA is rated at 200# on a Class III & 150# on a Class I or II.
I demo the Beta (1.25” version) and the quality is not there.
I don’t understand all the outstanding reviews on the Kuat, could be the older versions where more stout? American made?
The version I demo was made in China and the stainless steel hardware was low quality magnetic type (read cheap).
Trying to justify a $700 investment on the 1upUSA becomes clear after at least a thousand miles of rough roads with multiple stops for the obligatory scenic rides.
The best part is the look on people’s faces that are strapping down their bikes after a grueling ride while we are locked and loaded driving off to the next hidden jewel.
Interesting side note, I figured my fuel mileage would drop considering the weight of this rack.
I went from 32.4 to 29.4 with 2 bikes and empty rack just over 31mpg.
The old piece of $hit trunk mount was at best 27 on the flats.
Hell, I had a few 24 mpg drives with the trunk mount, which caused me to crawl under the car to see if I’m dragging any road kill.
I believe the aero dynamics of my 09 Focus is negatively affected by the trunk mount.

Heavy (weight for two bike trays is probably around 40lbs), Universal Hitch Lock (means anyone else with a ! Ups Rack could potentially steal your rack), No Built-In Lock for Bikes (no biggie since you could use a Krypto lock onto the hitch bars)
Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
I did my research before buying a platform rack and this one is no doubt the best on the market. I paid $697 (free s/h) for the rack and two additional bike trays (total 3 bikes). I used it for the first time yesterday and it took me about 15 min to read through the instructions step-by-step and have the bike rack on the hitch with two bikes attached. I strongly believe the next time around will take no more than 5 min. A couple things I don't like is that it uses a special hex wrench to install onto the hitch, this means that anyone else with a 1 Up USA rack could potentially steal your rack because they all use the same "special" hex wrench. I also wish it had a built in bike lock (but this is not a big deal since I can use a krypto).
I took a 30 min ride up to the trail head going 80mph on the freeway, and the bikes looked totally fine. The rack wobbles with the bumps but so does the whole car. I looked at the arms holding in the bike tires in the rearview mirror and never did they ever look like they were going to get loose. I like to be reassured so I wish the bike trays had built in straps to strap the bottom of the tires onto the trays.
Value-wise it's pretty expensive. I wish they would discount a bit when purchasing additional bike trays.

One bike rack option ($300) is probably the best on market today. Just almost perfect in stability, weight, size and durability. Very impressed overall in build quality, weight and compactness. One bike rack or bike add-on stores in each in (30x15x8) box. Really like that you can only mount what you need along with almost all stainless steel/anodized AL along with no rust, paint chips or paint fade.
Rack will fold very compact against bumper and only extends a few inches. From a distance, on my truck, it just looks almost part of bumper. Also rack has four tilt options - fully up, slight tilt and horizontal and down tilt.
Weaknesses:
Really only thing I would do is add some wheel straps options for folks that really like to cinch things down for additional safety on long trips (I just bought some straps, but don't use them for smooth roads). And for my setup, the fold down option is more clearance than I currently need (just makes it a little harder to lift back up to horizontal). Really looking for something to even nit pick here!
Similar Products Used:
Looked at Thule T2 and new Helium, Yakima Holdup, Kuat Alpha (gave up on NV), Raster. I currently have a Swagman XTC2 that is adequate, but limits access to SUV and does not fold and never really felt that my bikes were safe on it.
After getting the 1UPUSA, even the Kuat looked cheap to me, since they are painted AL. The Thule and Yakima just seemed crude and not really good values due to all steel, weight and massive size.
Key drivers for me was AL/SS construction, quality and light weight. Hate rust and instability. Compactness both while on vehicle and storage are really nice bonuses.
When you open up the box, you will smile, since quality and compactness with be obvious. All you have to do is lift out and insert into hitch and tightened hex nut. Rack has safety reflectors- minor detail just shows attention to details that are evident in rack.
I personally think the rack is a good value. You get what you pay for in design/quality, since I put a value on the engineering detail and all AL/SS construction. I figure the premium in $100-$175 max over Thule/Yakima platforms even with including the typical 20% off. At list, less than $100 for AL/SS 1UPUSA. About parity with new Kuat platforms, when they finally ship.
Got a chance to try out customer service, since I ordered the base rack first and later added the add-on rack. The second order add-on had minor shipping damage and 1UPUSA sent a free return label and resent out a new rack. Great service and no hassle.

Since the rack contacts only the tires, I worry a bit that the bike might become loose if you have a flat or two while it's racked. I think I'd put some cam-straps on the wheels if I were going on a major road trip, but I haven't had any trouble yet.
I just got back from a week in the Entiat & Methow valleys. we loaded my DT and a buddies Lefty in this thing day after day, loved it. 100s of miles of travel & shuttling, pleasure to use, zero problems, admired by all of the very experienced riders on the trip. If you can afford it, just do it. You can always return it but you won't. I bought their earlier model several years ago. I thought that it couldn't get better; I was dead wrong! The Rack to Receiver lock down mechanism eliminates any carrier wobble and unattended theft (of the rack itself). Rack wobbling was always a problem with variations in receivers. The 1 1/4" to 2" converter is also improved and very easy to switch with 1 Allen screw. The manner in which it secures the cycle is awesome as it allows instant loading and unloading without any concern of securing it down. It works with any cycle with 2 wheels. Lastly, I use to be concerned of someone stealing the rack and always locked it to my car. The new design with the security clamp eliminates that concern.

This is a follow up to my review posted on July 27, 2009 (by: 'sygibson') - Updates in the Weaknesses section.
Weaknesses:
This is the update to the 1upUSA review I posted on July 27, 2009. I stated:
"I wish the end of the rack had a "kick stand", so when you tilt a rack full of bikes down to open the tail gate, the end bike doesn't smack into the ground. It doesn't look like this newer version incorporates anything like that - but that would make it perfect, if it did."
I spoke to 1upUSA (Cal Phillips), and he states that the new model has a stop block that limits the tilt down angle so that bike don't clank into the ground. Awesome! They seem to really have listened to earlier input from their users and incorporated some great new features.
You've gotta have it. This rack is rock solid. It's super high quality construction and finish. It's sleek and sexy. Everyone that has ever used a bike rack that sees this, comments on it. They want to know how it works. They see how fast it is to load and unload bikes, WITHOUT having to take any wheels off. They freak out. They wanna know where to buy it.
I've had this rack for 4 years. The model I have is an earlier generation than the current one, and is designed differently. The wheel trays are the same, and the basic functioning is the same. I've used this rack hard, and it just never complains, never breaks, never gives me grief, and it never needs maintenance.
For a number of years, 1up USA stopped making this rack (cost to produce it, and low sales). Which is a shame, I could have easily sold a dozen of the racks for them - during that time. Everyone that sees it and gets a chance to use it wants it ... I'm ecstatic they're producing racks again, and I'm telling all my buddies that have drooled over my rack in the past...
I love the fact that, with just a minute or two and two bolts, you can reconfigure to carry 1, 2, 3, 4, or (in my case) 5 bikes. I usually leave it built up to carry 4 bikes, but sometimes it's nice to go down to two trays/bikes, especially if I'm going to be in and out of tight places (parking, cities, etc...).
The unique lock/expander bolt works perfectly - and it's surprisingly simple and effective. The rack will "vibrate" or "jiggle" a little bit in your rear view mirror, which takes a little getting used to - but it's completely solid, and works great.
Once you get over the sticker shock and buy this rack system - you'll love it, and you'll NEVER regret it. Even though this rack will set you back a few more clams than others, I still believe that the value rating is there even at full sticker price. I'd happily pay the clams again for this rack, if I should need a new one.
(despite the fact that my raving may lead you to believe I work for 1up USA - I don't - you simply can't get a better thought out and designed rack!)

I had purchased a trainer from 1upUSA some time ago and it is extremely well designed and well made. The rack is the same, only better. 10 seconds to install on the hitch, 5 seconds to load a bike, all the bikes - all eight of them - fit and are held securely (two at a time, of course). Strengths:
Exceptional design. Simple and easy to use. VERY fast to load and unload bikes. Unique. Everyone asks about it. Everyone admires it. Minimal design, when folded up, it only projects (at MOST) about a foot from the bumper of the vehicle. Can very quickly reconfigured from 2, 3, 4, or 5 bikes (I have the older model). Exceptional quality construction.
No matter what crazy frame design you have on your bike (specifically mountain bikes and rear shock systems), you can use this rack. Any top-tube hanger bike racks will have issues with most of the modern full suspension rigs out there. This rack system doesn't care a hoot about your frame/suspension design. It works all the same.
Weaknesses:
It *is* expensive - but you DO DEFINITELY get what you pay for with this rack. It costs a lot, but it will last virtually forever, and you'll NEVER regret it every time you load and unload your bikes. The older model that I have from around 2005 era is pretty heavy, even though they claim it's "light". The 4 bike version I have weighs easily 70 to 80 pounds. But it is super durable.
My only major complaint is the wheel clamps squeeze the bike from front to back, and they do not clamp *down* on the wheels. This causes the front fork to "compress" inwards. I worry a little bit about cranking the arms tight, and compressing the front frame. I've been using this rack for over 4 years on the same bike, and I have NOT noticed any issues or problems with the bike, so this concern is likely unfounded.
If you have bolted-on fenders that wrap around the rear wheel (eg a street bike, commuter, or similar), you won't be able to use this rack, without taking off the fender.
I wish the end of the rack had a "kick stand", so when you tilt a rack full of bikes down to open the tail gate, the end bike doesn't smack into the ground. It doesn't look like this newer version incorporates anything like that - but that would make it perfect, if it did...

Bottom Line:
My Heckler won't fit in the hanging bike racks due to frame design, so we needed a tray style rack. We have an Accord, which only takes a Class 1 hitch and has low clearance coming out of our driveway. This narrowed our selection drastically.
Looked like the Thelma was going to be our only option until I came across this rack! A friend had many issues with the quality of the Thelma rack, so I was very happy to have an alternative.
The 1up installed just as quickly as they say. It's fairly easy to use. Our very first use was on a weekend mtb trip, so I was a bit nervous on the 3 hour drive up watching the bikes in the mirror to make sure they didn't fall off along the way... They do tend to jiggle around back there, but aren't going anywhere. I'm sure I'll stop watching them in the mirror some day.... hehe
It also folds up nice and tight when not in use. So, I wasn't worried about anyone running into it when the bikes were off the car.
I'll try to remember to come back to write more once we've had it a bit longer.
So far, its a great product. I deducted 1 Flamin' Chili for Value, because I think the price could come down some.

It took me literally 5 minutes to have it on my vehicle AND have a bike on it. I could not believe it! This thing is so simple. I slid it in my hitch, tightened the bolt and all the play is out of it and you can’t pull it back off without the special tool. The tray opens up and you set your bike on it. You slide the arms closed and that’s it! I have never owned a rack so easy and so lightweight. I can fold it up when I’m not using it and I can fold it down to get in the back of my car. Even when I’m not using it, it looks cool! Everybody notices it. I’ve had 3 people already ask me where I got it. If you travel anywhere with your bikes, you have got to get this rack. I paid a little extra for this but it is by far and away the best rack I have ever owned. You really do get what you pay for!
