I am not happy with thees wheel at all. They might be light and stiff but I can not stand the creaking noise any longer. It comes from the spoke hub interface and I have tried everything to silence them. Lubing the hub spoke interface makes it go away for a few rides but this is intolerable on a top end wheel set. The first set I had all the paint came off the front hub(at this price they should be anodized)and they were replaced but the creaking came back. I have had 3 sets of cross max wheels XL, Enduro and the SLR is the first one to creak.

I really like this wheelset, a friend bought the crossmax cl, and in the first sharp corner he damage the rear rim, so every ride I look up for big rocks to avoid them and that makes me slower, but in races, corners and runs like hell.love them. buy them if you want to pimp your ride, buy the SL's if you want to improve your ride and save some $$$

I was quite very satisfied with this wheelset right after I used it... very fast-rolling wheelset... I also took note that even if they're specced as XC-racing wheelsets, they're stock equipment on All Mountain top-end 07 Cannondale Prophets and Lapierre Zesty 914's. So I guess it'll still hold up to my 150mm travel Heckler. I'm primarily a weekend trailwarrior and I seldom do jumps. I do hope Mavic would look into this creaking problem... I was planning on getting another Crossmax (SL) but I might have to postpone it until I get closure on the creaking noise... Otherwise, I'll be getting an XTR...

Weaknesses:
Creaking noise. The rear hub design has set the spokes to close (touching)at the cross over points. This produces an intolerable creaking noise.

Mavic need to make a modifaction to the hub ASAP and put right this issue with all those that have brought these wheels and are experiencing this problem. My low rating purely reflects this issue, which is letting down what is normally an excellent wheelset.

This is a great, stiff wheel for climbing. It is significantly lighter in weight than my old wheelset (717).
Weaknesses:
Price is steep, but I got a pro deal, so I justified them.

Use these wheels ONLY for racing! Yes, they are light and fun to ride on, especially on extended climbs, but they are not made to take the abuse of day in/day out trail riding. I love these wheels and have not had any problems with them. I would recommend them for XC racing... light, stiff, fast!

I purchased these wheelset a month ago to raplace my old XTR's WH-M965 wich had been my "ride any where" wheels for over 3000 trail miles and are still true and performing like the first day. Last week, the freehub stared skipping on me every time I pounded on the pedals. Took the rear wheel back to my LBS, where they replaced the freehub body. Last sunday it happened again. I had to walk back to the parking lot and missed a perfect rideable sunny day. I haven't had any freehub related issues since I got rid of my Crossmax XL's three years ago because of the same problem. I'm going back to Shimano XTR's.

I really like these wheels although the price was hard to swallow. They are really stiff; I have never felt them flex once. In addition; like all Mavic wheels they roll really nice with little or no drag. The hubs are super easy to adjust although that hasn't been needed yet. The look killer too.

Bottom Line:
My bike was only 19 pounds but by upgradeing my wheels I shaved off another pound. My old XTRs just flexed way too much(i weigh only 130 lbs) so I decided to upgrade. If you want a wheelset that is lightweight but does not feel flexy then this is the wheelset for you. I really love my new bike and hope it carries me across lots more finish lines!
