CLIF Bar and IMBA Award $3,000 in Grants

For Immediate Release: May 20, 2004

Six IMBA mountain bike clubs will score cash awards to kick start local trail projects thanks to the 2004 IMBA/CLIF Bar Trail Preservation Grants. The $500 grants are focused on projects that promote environmental education and inspire conservation in the mountain biking community.

Forty grants totaling $20,000 have been distributed since the IMBA/CLIF Bar Trail Preservation Grants program was established in 2001.

The 2004 first-round winners are:

  • Guelph Off-Road Bicycling Association, Ontario, Canada - The club will use grant monies to design and construct a wetland bridge in the Guelph Lake Conservation Area located about one hour west of Toronto.
  • Michigan Mountain Bike Association, Holly/Flint Chapter, Holly, Michigan - The grant will be used to help restore trails and construct sustainable water crossings in Seven Lakes State Park.
  • CoMotion, High Point, North Carolina - Funds will help pay for an educational kiosk in Rich Park near Mocksville, North Carolina. The club will also build a small bridge to improve access for a local elementary school.
  • Mountain Trails Foundation, Park City, Utah - The 10-year-old trails group will use grant funds to improve signs on the Park City Town Loop.
  • Iowa Coalition of Off Road Riders (ICORR), Iowa City, Iowa - ICORR will use the funds to re-route an eroded section of the popular Cannon's Run trail at Sugar Bottom Recreation Area in North Liberty, Iowa.
  • Redding Mountain Biking Club, Redding, California - Volunteers will install signs on the newly restored Mule Mountain Pass trail to encourage responsible riding.

IMBA affiliated clubs are invited to apply for the second round of 2004 IMBA/CLIF Bar Trail Preservation grants. Proposals are due by September 1. For more information visit:
