Marla Streb and Ned Overend to Speak at IMBA Summit
For Immediate Release, April 28, 2004
The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) is pleased to announce that current U.S. National Champion Marla Streb and former World Champion Ned Overend will attend and speak at the 2004 IMBA Advocacy Summit. The summit, which will be held June 4-8 in Westminster, Maryland, promises to be one of the largest single gatherings of mountain bike advocates ever.
Marla Streb is one of the most famous and successful mountain bikers in the world. In addition to winning the 2003 NORBA National Downhill title, Marla has scored victories and top-three finishes at countless other events, including World Cups, the Sea Otter Classic, the Winter X Games and the Single Speed World Championships. Marla has helped bring mountain biking to mainstream America, with interviews and features on the NBC Today show, NBC's Dateline and feature articles in Sports Illustrated and Outside Magazine. She is also featured in the 2003 IMAX movie "Top Speed," and recently published her first book, "Downhill - The Lifecycle of a Gravity Goddess." Marla, who races for Clif Bar's Luna Chix team, has been an IMBA member since 1995.
Mountain Bike Hall of Fame member Ned Overend is perhaps the most famous mountain bike racer in the history of the sport. Ned's legendary climbing ability helped him dominate races throughout the 1980's. Ned won the first UCI World Championship in Durango, Colorado in 1990. His success continued well into the 90's, as he racked up numerous national titles and World Cup victories. More recently, Ned won the 1999 Xterra World Championship. Ned has been an IMBA member since 1991.
"We're thrilled and honored that Marla and Ned will join us at the IMBA Advocacy Summit," said IMBA executive director Tim Blumenthal. "They are successful racers, who have given back to the sport, and are an inspiration to mountain bikers everywhere."
The 2004 IMBA Mountain Bike Advocacy Summit will feature informative seminars, classic east coast riding, great food, parties, celebrity guest speakers and a chance to interact with other mountain bikers. Attendees will also spend a day in Washington, D.C., meeting members of Congress and their staff to introduce them to IMBA and build awareness of key mountain biking issues. All IMBA members and mountain bikers are invited.
The summit is just 37 days away, and early registration closes April 30, so sign up today! For more information or to register visit www.imba.com
