By: Mike Curiak Steamboat Springs, Colorado June 26 4pm
I arrived here at Steamboat at 4pm. I lubed the chain and did some bike maintenance and hope to do more miles tonight. The weather has changed dramatically in the last couple of days. We left bear country but entered thunderstorm country. The lightning and storms have dictated when, how and how fast we can ride. Into South Pass city, I told you about the huge hail and lightning storm. Yesterday, I got into Rollins just ahead of an electrical and hail storm. And today as I left Rollins at 2am and for the whole 14 hours, I was literally head down into the storm with maximum effort to cross 2 mountain passes before the lightning shut me out of the trail. I made both passes but I'm going pay the price tomorrow since my legs are shot.

One thing I wanted to talk about today is the Pronghorn , not quite a deer and not quite big horn sheep. We see a lot of them here and they have a very peculiar habit . If they are a quarter mile in front of you on the right side, they will run across as fast as they can to cross the trail in front of you and slow down a quarter mile on the other side. And it doesn't matter where you are or what the circumstances are. 99% of the time, the will cross in front of you. And man they stink, even more than I do. You can smell them even before you can see them.
