June 18 - Race start

By: Mike Curiak
7 racers total on the Canadian Border at the Port of Roosville. 5 riders are riding 29 inch bikes. Kind of funny that the industry hasn't accepted 29 inch bikes when here we are in the hardest race in the world where 5 out of 7 riders are using 29ers.

The starting lineup is:
Steve Fastbinder from Oregon on a Vanilla 29er.
Peter Basinger from Alaska on an Independent Fabrication 29er
Jan Kopka from The Czech Republic on a Superior 29er
Mike Curiak on a Moots 29er
Gary Dye riding a Willits
Matt Lee and Trish Stevenson on Cannondale Scalpels

Everyone is milling around in anticipation, exchanging ideas on equipment and supplies. This race is still new so bike setup and philosophy varies with each rider.

Here we go. 101 miles to the first stop at Whitefish!
