Sunday July 4 - Highlights Mike Curiak at finish in Antelope Wells, New Mexico at 2pm New Course Record! The race is over! We finished early this afternoon! Last night, I had no idea where Pete was but I suspected he had a mechanical or wilted from the heat since I hadn't seen him in two days. I let down my guard a little bit as I got a bit of a nap in. I pushed as long as I could but I woke up doing 25 mph as I was dozing off while on the bike. I knew then it was time to pull over to take a nap. I set my alarm for two hours. For one reason or another, I didn't hear my alarm and overslept. I then woke up and sat straight up. At that precise moment, Pete passed by me not more than 10 feet away. I then bolted into action and packed up my stuff to catch up. I caught up to him after 15 minutes and we rode together for the next 80 miles. It was pretty relaxed as we talked quite a bit. We discussed the things that came our way and the breaks that didn't. It was a pretty hot day with lots of flat pavement. We then ramped it up as we got close to the finish line. I know that this is a pretty climactic way to end this, but I ended up coming in at 16 days and 57 minutes. Pete came in at 16 days 1 hour and 21 minutes. Expect a more detailed write-up as soon as I'm able.
