Thursday, July 1 - Highlights

Allan Barker rode with me yesterday into Salida. I arrived in Salida at midnight with my bike broken. The owner of the Salida bike shop came in at midnight to fix my bike. They did a great job and my bike rides like new now. I'm very thankful to them.

485 miles to the finish and I'm counting every one of them. I'm pretty damn tired. Today has beat me down big time as the climbs came in unexpectedly. I climbed 4000 feet in one push and I mostly pushed my bike. I got through it but I definitely didn't feel very good. Part of the reason is because it was so hot and dry. It's unbelievable how dry this place is. A forest service guy I met said a big spark can set the whole forest ablaze!

I just had a giant chocolate milkshake and I feel a little bit better. I'll go out again tonight and try and make some more miles tonight. My bike problems from yesterday have been solved but I lost quite a bit of time.
