The trail began about 2 miles from my place, all uphill. Luc and I had no problems with that part of the ride, but Shirish seemed to be lagging behind. Even after we adjusted his seat up twice so he wouldn't keep kneeing himself in the chest, he still had trouble keeping up. Once we got to the start of the actual off road trail, Shirish finally revealed that he was feeling hungry as he hadn't had a bite to eat that day! Here it was 2 in the afternoon, 75 or so degrees in the sun, and Shirish was running on empty! To make matters worse, the poor guy is still recovering from a messed up knee, courtesy of Bill and his skis.
5 minutes later we stopped to give Shirish another little breather, as his complexion was almost as light as mine, we thought he could use frequent rests. "I'm not used to this heat", Shirish struggled to say, "I'm from the North." Then once he realized how odd a statement that was coming from him, he meekly added... "India". Luc and I found that one rather amusing!
Things just got worse. 5 minutes later on our next rest stop, Shirish had enough. I'll skip over the details of this stop and just say that Luc and I left Shirish in the shade of a tree to cool off. We'd meet him again at the beginning where the trail circled back on itself.
30 minutes or so later the trail riding was complete and we started the trek back home. It was all down hill from here on in so the adventures of the ride were probably over.... or so we thought! You see, there is a new access highway being built back home and it is currently loose gravel. Where this grave intersects the existing roads, mounds of loose rock about 2 feet high and very steep in shape are set up to stop cars. 20 feet from one of these mounds I yelled to Luc, "Ramp! You first!". Really now, how many people do you know that would listen to the likes of me? Luc did. He took off like a bullet towards the gravel 'ramp'.
Luc's collarbone is in 5 pieces. Surgery is yet to be scheduled. Stop by his office if you like to see the colors black and blue. Sorry Luc, but I really didn't think there was anyone left in this world that would listen to me!
Anyhow, to get back to the whole reason I started on about biking... anyone want to go riding this weekend? You might want to eat something first and not listen to any suggestions I might make.
