Strength:

Decent Frame, Durable Tires, good v-brakes,

Weakness:

Drivetrain, fork, heavy single walled

Solid, decently lightweight frame - if you come accross the frame it makes for a fun upgrade project that won't let you down. You have to shop around, but I found that upgrading the parts was cheaper than purchasing a new Trek, Scott, Canondale or Specialized with similiar components.

The original setup was adequate for an entry level bike, but will leave you unsatisfied if you truly enjoy riding trails. You'll be coveting the better bikes on the trails. 3 chilis for value and upgrade-ability.

Strength:

great lightweight stiff agile frame. pretty good brakes. throw everything else away.

Weakness:

the components are absolutely horrible, until you get a job. then you can upgrade every part of the bike down to the brake cables. then it can turn out to be an awesome hardtail you can go on to win the MA superseries on. try it its fun.

this bike is an underestated frame that has so much potential its amazing. having replaced everything i got it down to about 23.5 lbs. i love it. its my only mtb and i race on it. god i love brand loyalty.
post script: im giving it a low value rating because all i really use now is the frame.

Strength:

Super light. Nice saddle.

Weakness:

Cheap components. The wheels are crap and will need to be trued. The brakes are horrible. Other than that, there's nothing really bad, but the componentry is just cheap.

This bike is great for road riding. The suspension is pretty stiff, so you don't lose a lot of power while riding in the city. It's super light and the tires are knobby enough that it's pretty good for light trails. If you're looking to get into mountain biking, though, grab a more expensive hardtail.

Strength:

Weight, brakes, grips

Weakness:

saddle, stock tubes, deraileur, shocks

Good bike for the money. shocks are stiff, i went through the stock tubes in about 1 week with minimal trail riding, deraileur seems to operate only half the time, and the saddle gets uncomfortable after about 3 miles. im getting a new cannondale f5 in september. good bike for beginners or experimenting with different setups.

Price,frame,bontrager components

Weakness:

Pedals,stem rises too much

While this may well be a economy bike it is a damn good value. Bike is fairly light with a well made frame. Shimano components shift solidly without hesitation. Brakes while generic work well. Tires are 2.0 but seem on the skinny side. overall this bike feels light and responsive. a good bike for a mix of street and trail though I would not do any serious jumps on it.Its aimed a a specific market and
works great for that target group while providing for upgrades.

Strength:

Damn nice strong, light frame. Components are alright not top of the line but they do get the job done.

Weakness:

PEDALS SUCK. Clipless is needed for sure.

Damn good bike for the money. Durable and strong when jumping and downhilling can really take a beating. THe compnents are not the best but are good for the money. I would recommend this to any begginer or semi intermediate rider.

$Trek-Unit$ for life!

Strength:

Value. Has been reliable for the three months i have had it. A good frame with components you can upgrade. Black paintjob gives me a Johnny Cash feel.

Weakness:

Pedals needed immediate upgrading. Drivetrain is 7speed. Hubs are not upgradeable to disc.

My last bike was stolen and I wasn't really ready to lay down alot of money on a new one. I bought this, and I have been very happy. I ride three or four times a week, singletrack for over an hour for excercise. I weigh 220lbs and I haven't had any problems on this bike (the fork hasn't died on me, which I worried about at first).

Strength:

Very light, responsive, solidly built

Weakness:

none depending on what you use it for

For an "average" biker like myself who likes to meander on and off road without jumping off of cliffs, bouncing off boulders, and just trying to stay in shape and enjoy the outdoors, this bike is a steal. It's fun to ride, feels very solid but comfortable on and off road, and looks great. It almost rides itself. Ten years ago I was an image conscious "bells and whistles" guy, but now that I've grown older and wiser I value something that simply serves its purpose well. This bike hits the spot.

Strength:

Great Frame, Durable Paint, Strong drivechain

Weakness:

Stock forks (I Upgraded), Ride Height, Tires, Derailur

This is a great Hardtail and is durable for any trail. I may not be a huge mountain biker, but any bike that holds to geter on the trail, i can ride. The suspention really needs to be changed out, it is actually a hazard to have suspension that stiff.
