Ridden Trail: Once a week

Cross Country Rider Summary: This system has a wide variety of trails. Everything from easy-going, flowy, fast singletrack to technical climbs and rocky downhills. The best way to find your way around 9-mile is to go out and get lost. Once you're lost, try to find your way back. If you are able to get out with someone who's knowledgeable on the layout of the trail system make sure you pay attention to where he/she is taking you. 'Cause if you're just following along for the ride chances are you won't be able to find your way again. If you check out the map you'll see there's very little (if any) rhyme or reason to the layout of the trails. This can make it tough for newcomers to really find their way. However, have no fear because I've heard of several occasions when a newbie has been safely guided back to Redbud by one of the friendly black bears that inhabit 9-mile. Recommended Route: This route is about a 12 mile loop around the forest. Start out from the main parking lot on Redbud Road and head out to trail 4 (The Pines). From there connect out to 7 and head toward 8. Take trail 8 all the way out to the horse trail. Follow the horse trail to the west until you can connect to logging trail T. Stay right on trail T all the way to 16 (Flower Trail). Be prepared to get lost trying to find Flower. Take Flower down and then cut out to your left near the downed tree once you get close to the bottom of the trail. Then take 15 up to 13 (Hot Sauce). When you get to the end of 13 stay right and then left, you'll see what I mean. Follow R to 11 (Ho Chi Min) and take that all the way tot the bottom. You'll hit an intersection toward the end of Hi Chi, stay right. Once you're on G stay on G until you get to 10. Take 10 to 9 to 7 to 5 and then find Redbud Road. Cross Redbud and find 3 off of C. Take a right onto 3 and follow it 3,2,1 and then head to the north side of C to head back on 1,2,3. This section along C is known as Leos Loop. From Redbud head back toward The Pines to finish up before making it back to the parking lot. Other recommended trails in the same area: Standing Rocks near Stevens Point and Amherst is about a half hour south. Levis-Trow Mounds is near Niellesville and is about 2 hours southwest of Wausau.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Fun singletrack. There is quite a variety there, from fast single track to rock gardens and rocky, technical trails. I single speed on a 29er and love it there. There are no big climbs, but you can hit the doubeltrack for some hills. There are a few rock gardens with one crazy one on the East side of the trails. In the back are newer trails with soem fun rocky sections - a little tough for novices (aka my wife) but fun for experiences. althoug it is 1 1/2 hours away, it is my new favorite weekend trail. Recommended Route: hit the different numbered trails - some are loops and other end on double track - all is good, but hit the back trails (I think they are numbers 10 and above). A GPS with the supplied map comes in hand, as many trails intersect and you can get a bit turned around until you ride them a bit. Other recommended trails in the same area: Standing rock

Weekend Warrior Summary: The single track is nice, hardly technical though. The famed flower trail had some rocks, just enough to keep it interresting. There are very few hills on these trails. The little alps are the only hills to note and they are not very large.
This is a nice trail system that is well maintained and in good shape but I would not drive 4 hours to ride it again. Recommended Route: Singletrack

Cross Country Rider Summary: Because there are so many trails here, there is something for most anyone to enjoy, provided they know where they're going. The trails are basically what seems to be a network access/fire roads with MTB singletrack going between or looping back. Be prepared to spend some time on these gravelly roads in order to get to the singletrack - the MBT trails are short and not continuous. If you can hook up with some locals, I would reccomend that, as navigation of the many trails is difficult for newcomers. I have not ridden all the trails, but the Little Alps is the most challenging trail I have found. Recommended Route: Little Alps.

Weekend Warrior Summary: I took a trip up to wausau to hit this trail, Im from the fox Valley area and go to college in Milwaukee. This trail is great it has something for everyone but if you are looking for single track you can have fun for the whole weekend here. there are a veriety of challenges such as rock, roots sharp turns and steep climbs. The only problem I saw was the visibility of the trail....lots of leaves and straw covering the trails at some stops but that just add to the challenges. Get lots of speed hit some sweet jumps to give you some air and go throught the woods way in the back for the most technical ride there Recommended Route: the whole thing. there are trails on both sides of the road by the parking lot make sure you dont leave anything out. looking for some downhill shooting hit the logging trails on the way to the marsh Other recommended trails in the same area: None in the area but if you are a traveler hit Kettle Moraine State Park or Calumet County Park both are good trails
