This trail is the only decent trail near Ft. Collins. It is nothing like Pineridge which is a dirt path with a few rocks here and there. This trail is advanced in my opinion. The elevation gain on this trail is higher than all of Florida. This trail is also very rocky and difficult to complete without stopping for a rest. Take the trail all the way to the road at the top of the ridge and descend Shoreline trail for extra fun.

Trail Directions
Go into the Hughes Stadium area off of Overland trail road. Don't worry, it is legal to ride in the fenced in area of the stadium. Ride along the south side of the stadium until you reach a trail that heads up to a gravel road. Head north and turn left onto the trail. Make your way north until you reach the trailhead.

Summary:
You make it up this trail without putting a foot down you should be pretty proud of yourself. This is a great after work ride. Keeps the heart pumping and the technical skills fine tuned. You can connect it with a couple trails along the shore line up top for a good 45min bit of carido.

It's a fun ride down, but this is not a DH trail. Much too crowded, much too short. Have some respect for others as this trail is usually busy with hikers and joggers.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
For all you wanna be DH'ers give Bobcat Ridge or Horsetooth Mountain Park a try... that is if you can get your bike to the top.

Summary:
One sweet little DH if there is no traffic at that time. Good luck with that. Regardless, this is a very fun section for local DH. Just wish it lasted longer. Maxwell has lots of pedal grabbers so mind your pedal placement before you go breakin' somethin'. It's really rad as you make it. Wan't to hang it out and get the adrenaline going? Lay off the brakes and let it rip. Couple (one really) switchbacks and lots of opps for drops if your lookin' at the right line. Maxwell is compact and technical if yer' goin' fast enough. For similar trails though, try Wathen in HTMP, and Timber in Lory. They're like a Maxwell all stretched out, ya dig?
Expect dirty looks from people going up. Unless their pushing big bikes, then expect a thumbs up and "wwooo-hooo".
Fresh new section at the very top has great spot for a 4" drop if yer' willing to clear a path down the fall-line after sundown. You know you want to.

Recommended Route:
Well, the "recommended route" would be to shuttle this bad boy as many times as possible. Make friends with those push-bikes and you may luck out. Thanks guys!
Otherwise it's either climb or hike. Well worth any way to the top. Just get there.
Hike, Rip, Hike, Rip, Repeat....

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Timber, Michaud, Wathen, Foothills

Pretty fun for its length, you can make it hard if you go fast enough.

Recommended Route:
West on Prospect at Prospect and Overland, take your first left, gate is on right.

Horsetooth, A Trail, Mischaud, etc.

Summary:
This trail is hell getting up but worth going down. One of THE BEST dh trails (although short) near Ft. Collins. Dont listen to the other reviews, if you want to enjoy this one go down it balls out, it is completely feasible - I do it about 3 times a week. If you take this descent slow youre wasting one hell of a fun ride. Just watch out for the slow people coming up, its usually crowded. Make sure to launch off the jump as your coming down just before the stadium too. My favorite ride within 30 miles of the Ft.

Recommended Route:
Go up Maxwell all the way to the road. Cross the parking lot and descend Shoreline (the first half of this trail is great rocky dh too) end shoreline at the second parking lot to the north and take the little ridges by the road back. Descend Maxwell and have fun watching the expressions on the joggers faces as you fly over massive rocks going 30 mph.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Youngs, the descent on Michaud

Summary:
Like Pineridge, this trail is right on the edge of Ft Collins, so there's no sense of being "out there" Most of the trail is devoid of trees and it's far from the prettiest ride in the area. Unlike Pineridge, however, this trail provides a very good climb of about 500' in a little over a mile, and hase some technical fun with rocks and one very good switchback. A great after work training ride. Even if the views aren't great, what's under your knobbies is.
