Weekend Warrior Summary: ive ridden this trail a few times now. other than the loose gravel at the very beginning of the trail, its a lot of fun for what it is. its almost perfectly flat, and wide. very easy to ride, would be great for families or church groups or whatever. would also be good for endurance training. very nice scenery, lots of wildlife, and you will hardly ever see anyone else. Recommended Route: i have only ridden the trail that starts at the intersection of 20 and 31. go straight for about 2 miles and you will come to a left turn. if you go that way it will take out to the I-65 bridge. its pretty cool to be able to hang out under the interstate for a while, maybe bring a lunch haha.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Wanted to put in some more info on the trail that starts at the intersection of AL 20 and US 31. On the East side of the Tennesse River in Decatur, AL
This is a 10.25 mile loop basicly with some connections to other trails (fire roads). This trail is mainly dirt and gravel, some of the gravel is loose (maybe 15% of trail) but none of the loose gravel last long. The trail is basicly flat. Easy trail for the beginner to build up endurance. Could be easily ridden with a hybird bike. Recommended Route: Go south from the gate 1.5 miles. Then you can turn left or go straight. Lets go straight. The trail follows the TN river on the all the way to the I-65 TN River Bridge. You can then go straight or turn right. The 10.25 Loop turns right. (Haven't been straight yet) and goes north between the brigdes (about 1.5 miles) turn left at the intersection by the tractors and other equipment. This goes back the the 1.5 mile intersection at the start of the loop. This part of the trail is throught woods and cropland and some swamp.

, from Huntsville Summary: Started the trail at the Hwy 20/Hwy 31 intersection as you go into Decatur. Rode from there to beyond the Interstate 65 bridge and back. On the way back I hit a two tire road trail through the woods that was pretty nice. Nice scenery on the ride. Tennessee river on one side, swamp land on the other. Mountain bike needed only because of gravel sections on part of trail. Trail is really a gravel/dirt road. Rode for about hour and a half and saw one other biker on trail. This trail is basically level for entire route I was on. Anyone should be able to ride this route. Other recommended trails in the same area: Mountain Mist trail on Monte Sano.

, from Decatur, AL Summary: Another reviewer here wrote that this isn't really a trail. This is true. These are narrow gravel roads used by the forest service. Some of the roads are open to public use (in a car). Some are gated and some are not. These refuge roads can be found on either side of the Tennessee River and run from Huntsville to Decatur on both side of the river. So that means that there's no shortage of mileage. If you aren't too familiar with the area, look at a good map. The refuge roads aren't hard to find. If you can find the river, you can find these roads. The roads don't run through the city of Decatur. You must leave town in order to reach them. Well, there are a couple in town. They're near the wildlife visitor's center on highway 67. Mileage here is limited though (5 miles or so) and may not be worth a trip to get there. What you can expect on these trails is an abundance of wildlife. If that's your thing, then you'll want to spend some time on these roads. 99% of the time, you can ride the gated roads and not see another soul all day!!!!! If you are a hardcore biker and can't spill enough blood or be shaken enough, these are not for you. Recommended Route: There are too many ways you can go. Get a map and just go to wherever looks interesting.
