    Strengths:    Light weight, look cool

Weaknesses:    Front wheel drags significantly. Bearings are weak.

    Bottom Line:
I like the way the wheels feel. For long rides (4-7 hours) they are very forgiving and smooth. but I have noticed that the front wheel does not spin well at all. They are only a month old. I think the problem is in the caps on the hub.
Has any one else run into this problem?

Strengths:    spokes seem strong but I wouldn't bet on it judging from the rest of the package.

    Weaknesses:    Hub, hub seals, quality

    Bottom Line:
Absolute rubbish. Any time I have ridden in the rain my bearings were flooded. The hub seals are the worst I've ever seen. Not to mention the bearings which were cheap and nasty and were replaced within a week of buying them. The rims scratch easy and the stickers come off. The free hub is also crap and after time the whole rear hub works it's way lose. I've had two sets of these both bought brand new and both were the same. I'm a professional racer who rides 25-30 hours a week and races XC Marathons and these wheels have cost me races. These wheels will let you down if you ride them hard or long enough. Don't waste your money!

Strengths:    Very light weight, very fast, spoke flex acts as suspension, superspeedy warranty service

Weaknesses:    Had to get spokes from factory, rear hub tore apart

    Bottom Line:
I have the Xyclone Races. So far these have been great race wheels. The PBO spokes actually soften the ride of my hardtail through super rocky sections.

I broke a front spoke at the aluminum nipple near the rim in the middle of last season. No shops in Vegas or in Southern Cali carry spokes, except one, but they had older versions that weren't compatibly. Once I emailed Spinergy, though, they sent me a couple right away and I was back on the trail.

I just tore the rear hub to pieces on the drive side two Sundays ago. I was riding uphill when it happened. It might have had cracks before that I didn't notice. Anyway, I sent the wheel back to Spinergy for warranty and I got it back literally in one week. In FedEx 3 day on Wed. afternoon, back on my porch on next Wed. when I got home from work! New cassette body and hub relaced to the rim, and the hub was a new design that was beefed up in the area mine broke. I don't think it'll happen again.

No other problems. Can't wait for this season! Get these if you wanna go fast.

Strengths:    They look sound and roll great. I've been running these for about a year. The rear hub is very easy to service. They are incredibly light as well. I run with the Stan's strips. Lighter than Crossmax SL for half the price.

Weaknesses:    Because I use Stan's, they require extra time to true. I tweaked my front wheel once. To true it, I had to pull the tire, sealant, and strips out (The spokes can only be adjusted via the nut in the rim) It's been fine since, and the rear has never needed any work.

    Bottom Line:
I love the wheels so much that I bought a set for my wife as well. They have all held up great and I am very happy that I bought them. They made a drastic improvement to my bike as well.

As for the people getting "used" wheels, all of ours coming from PricePoint were perfect.

Deducting 1 chili because I had to true the front wheel once.

Strengths:    Very Light and comfortable ride. Customer Service has been reworked now and everybody gets an email back or a phone call. Warranty issues are a thing of the past.

    Weaknesses:    None

    Bottom Line:
These wheels are very light and strong. I put at least 100 miles a week on my bike and have not trued the wheels once. The hubs are very easy to maintain and parts are now easily available with just one order form from their web site or a phone call. The service department is didicated to just sending out parts and warranties. In the past there was one guy to handle everything and service was less than satisfactory. All has been changed now and service is top notch. I would buy these wheels if you are into getting a relatively cheap and very light wheelset. Use Stans No Tubes and you have a light and very race worthy set of wheels.

Strengths:    ummm, the fact that people think they are cool looking?

    Weaknesses:    rear hub

    Bottom Line:
these are straight garbage...after blowing out out some spokes and severely damaging a mavic rim that was laced to a chris king rear hub (excellent hub), i decided to use ti spokes to relace the king hub to a new mavic rim...it was going to take some time to get the proper ti spokes, and i had a big ride coming up...so as not to miss the ride, i opted to order a spinergy xcyclone from performance bike to have as a back up for the future...i got the wheel in only to find that it was a used wheel...i sent it back to performance and they sent me another wheel (also used), and i immediately returned that one as well...two weeks later (after missing my ride afterall) the NEW wheel arrived...it was light and appeared to be of good quality so i mounted it up, spun around the block on it to make sure it was ok, and proceeded to drive 150 miles away for another ride...about five miles into the ride either the spring broke in the hub, or the pawls snapped off...now i have a BRAND NEW NON-USABLE wheel...i tried many times contacting spinergy, butnot once have i received a reply...that was coming up on two years ago...i still have the brand new non-usable wheel in the original container that it came w/, replete w/ the nice wheel bag that comes w/ it (you're gonna need the bag, cause the wheel won't work on a bike)...i keep thinking that there is something that i can do w/ it, but it looks like it's dumpster bound w/ only five miles on it...what a shame...GARBAGE

    Strengths:    light weight, strength, aesthetics

    Weaknesses:    customer service

    Bottom Line:
This a follow up post to my earlier review. The customer service from spinergy was terrible. Initially the reps from Spinergy did not want to take the wheel back and insisted that the hub would loosen up with time (despite the fact that I already had over 200 miles on it). Eventually, my LBS sent in my rear wheel and they agreed to fix or replace the rear hub under warranty and my LBS shipped it to them priority mail. So far so good. Two and a half weeks and several unreturned phone calls later, my LBS finally gets a Spinergy rep on the phone again. Apparently they had not diagnosed the problem yet because, "noone here at the factorty has a mountain bike." They did finally fix the problem and return my wheel but it took more than a month from the date the wheel was initially shipped. Thankfully, my LBS lent me a rear wheel to ride on while it was gone.
Now that my wheels are functioning properly I really enjoy their performance. They stay in true remarkably well and accelerate and absorb shock as advertised. I think Spinergy has a good product, they just need to back it up with better customer customer service. Would I buy again? Maybe.

    Weaknesses:    rear hub sticks

    Bottom Line:
I got a good price on a rear wheel only. I like the way the wheel feels when I am pedaling. I will like it a lot better if the sticky rear hub is corrected and my chain no longer sags against my lizard skin while freewheeling, and my cranks no longer turn when I wheel my bike to my car. My LBS is contacting Spinergy regarding the problem. If my rear hub is repaired/replaced quickly and at no expense to me, then I will be happy and post another review significantly upgrading the rating.

    Bottom Line:
This is an updated review, based on 7/11/2003 below. After Spinergy replaced the freewheel body with circular profile pawl spring with an updated square profile one, the spring seems to remain where it should be.

Except for a minor sideways flex due to either flexy carbon spokes or lack of truing (not necessarily a disadvantage as it may be intentional by the designers to add comfort), the overall feeling is close to outstanding. I've converted them to tubeless using Stan NoTubes, and with the ultra light Conti Twister Supersonic, it feels like your riding a road bike. Particularly apparent on those 10-miles uphills, it's almost like flying. And at the same time, the wheels feels really strong and trustworthy on those technical downhills as well. This combination is invaluable!

Another benefit is that the hubs very easy to disassemble (and assemble).

Weaknesses:    Need more up keep then previous wheelsets.

    Bottom Line:
These have been a very good wheelset for me. I have something like 2300 miles on these wheels with 15 races in 03 and didnt have any problems. Call me cravy but I espically like these wheels because I can pull them appart for service in like 5 seconds with allen wrenchs. They are user friendly for service. I ride in a dry climate so that might be in my favor for not having any problems. As with all things these wheels need to be cleaned and lubed just like you would if it were your car. I have had 3 friends riding crossmax wheels all have major issues so Im convinced that these wheels are just as good if not better.

Strengths:    Light and fast, cool looking. Ceramic rims offers full stop in all weather conditions

    Weaknesses:    Rear hub pawl spring

    Bottom Line:
The pawl spring broke after approx 500km/300mi. Was promised a new freewheel body (updated?) from the swedish general agent, so I sent in my old body. After three weeks I got the old one back with a new spring. Still working after 100km/60mi...

I've spent several hundered hours of hard training just to peak perform on my upcoming A priority marathon races: is it worthwhile to trust the new spring - or should I go the secure (and expensive) Mavic CrossMax way?

Has Spinergy named these wheels after a short lived weather phenomenon? Buy it if you've got the big bucks and ride 100km/year, otherwise don't!

PS. All manufacturers experience material/production flaws. How/if they correct them is the interesting part. So, my rating is conditional: if the spring stays in place throughout the season, add two flamin' chilis :) (will toon in l8r to tell...)

Weaknesses:    Week pawl spring that has made me walk twice.
Custome service that is very slow and has not come up with warranty parts for a month. Also the Axils bend very easy.

    Bottom Line:
I drove 750. miles to Moab only to Walk my bike because the spring holding the pawls in the free hub broke. I talked to the Spinergy dealer in Moab and they said that it was a comman problem and that there was a updated free hub for the fix. I called Spinergy for Warranty and they told me that I had to send the old part in to get it warranted, so I asked them If I could buy one and then send the old one back. They said they were out of stock on free hubs and they sent me a replacement spring which has broken again. After no luck with Spinergy I called Hadley racing (very good service) they have the free hubs in stock and sent one asap. (thanks Hadley) Bottem line is are cool looking wheels worth all this ?

    Bottom Line:
I originally wanted to purchase bontrager rims with King hubs. I got the spins from Supergo for a good price. The rims are light, look good and are strong.
I use these on my race bike, so I'm not taking it easy on the bike. The company said I would have to retrue these after the first ride but they have been perfect in that aspect.
The problem I have is with the rear hub. After a couple of muddy races and bike cleanings later the rear hub has so much resistance in it that it will turn the cranks when I push it. I'm going to take it apart and hopefully fix it.
I know mud and water can hurt hubs, but I've never had a problem with my Shimano's. I'm wishing I would have bought the King hubs instead.

Weaknesses:    Spinergy customer service is horrible and slow
If you do ever break anything, expect Spinergy to buy a (discounted) brand new wheel, since Spinergy will most likely have discontinued the service parts for your wheel (this has happened twice to me)

    Bottom Line:
I hate Spinergy's customer service. I love their wheels.
Long story short, I rode 3 miles over very bumpy and cracked rock which included several hundred feet of climbs and descents (if any of you have ridden the 2nd half of the lap at the 24hrs of adrenaline at Conyers, GA, you know how bad of terrain I am talking about)
I did this with a flat tire.
After the lap - zero knicks or dents in the still true rim
    Amazing
3 for value because you do have to drop quite a bit of money to get them
    4 for overall - would've gotten a 5, but like i said, i hate Spinergy's customer service.
