Strengths:    Light, good looking, strong rim with wide internal size, straight-thru spokes, lots of different axle options, tubeless ready, etched graphics.

Weaknesses:    Cassette carrier can get pitted seems to be made of aluminium or soft steel, no eyelets, too much technological gimmerickery.

Bottom Line:
I've been using these for well over a year or maybe two, and I ride about 8,000kms a year on two bikes, the first year they stood up pretty well to the abuse, but I've found their longer-term durability to be not as good, especially with the rear which takes more punishment. Basically despite the name these Taiwan made hoops are essentially higher-end Novatec wheels, being that their bread and butter is cheap but fairly solid equipment.

In the time I had them I needed new rear bearings and one good solid trueing due to a random loose spoke. Also the cassette carrier has become pitted, so that next time I change a cassette will be hell. I am also expecting to get the odd loose spoke over the next year.

Yes, you can accuse many other wheelsets of being far worse thst the Spanks, with their Boo-Bah or OOh-Ah or wahtever technological gimmerick advertising. I also have Fulcrum Red Zone, which, cost the same, have had none of the long term minor issues I've had with the Spanks, which I have also abused over a similar period of time, and are made in Italy, a real deal for me with so much manufacturing being switched to Asia. Companies like Fulcrum should be better rewarded by consumers for keeping it real.

In short, the Spanks are good wheels, that are very responsive and impress 'out-of-the-box', but their long term durability could only be described as 'good', nothing more. Conficted between 3 or 4 chillis.
