Favorite Trail:Black Rock Mountain Bike Freeride Park
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $250.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Strong, Fairly Light for Freeride, Sealed Bearing Hubs resist water. Very clean craftsmanship. Really good bang for your buck. The hubs coast endlessly and the rims are extremely solid even when ridden by a 200 lb guy like me.
Weaknesses:Heavy for cross country (doesn't bother me). The adapters are not fixed to the hub which i could see being a potential problem, but i use a 20mm thru-axle so i really don't experience this problem. I have the first generation set which aren't the coolest looking and have a sticker instead of a painted decal which i found to be some what cheesy.
Similar Products Used:Sun Rhynolite laced to Marzocchi Hub and XT rear
Mavic Deemax
Mavic Crossmax SL
Mavic 317 Disc laced to XT front and rear
Halo SAS
Bike Setup:05 Santa Cruz Bullit - Marz 888 - DHX 5.0 - XT + E13SRS - Hayes HFX Mags - Azonic Ultracross Bars - ODI Lock Grips - Thompson Seat Post - WTB Speed V seat - Primo Tenderizer Pedals - Intense 909 Fro Lite Tires.
Bottom Line:I bought these rims simply to build a secondary hucker bike and decided that i liked them quite a bit after riding them. I just recently bought the 2010 set from their website in the new sexy green color and they look stunning. Wheels can become out of true or out of round during shipping among other things. Having worked in a bike shop, every wheel we unpack from a shipping box goes right into a truing stand for a once over and slight adjustments. Wheels that cost twice as much can still come out of true out of the box. These wheels are strong enough to freeride on and light enough to race downhill on at an economical price. I would suggest them for just about anybody.

Favorite Trail:seven springs and snowshoe
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:Pricepoint
Strengths:The wheel itself. Its strong and doesnt need much maintenance
Weaknesses:Putting stickers for decals on a wheelset is a pretty stupid idea
Similar Products Used:other wheels
Bike Setup:transition dirtbag, fox 36, diety, chris king, etc..
Bottom Line:These wheels have taken a lot of abuse and I only ever needed to true them once. Honestly they didn't need a serious trueing, but I got bored. I have rode them at snowshoe, wisp, seven springs, killington and some dirt jumps, as well as my daily trail riding and they dont seem to get flatspots or dents. A really good price for what you get, plus you have options of running qr or thru axles so they can be used on multiple bikes if you want. Spokes maintain tension. Decent weight too, I even raced xc on them. Only thing I noticed and I dont know if its just bad luck or not, but I get a lot of flats with them. I really dont see the need in paying for anything that costs more.

Favorite Trail:Epics
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $200.00
Purchased At:greenfish
Strengths:Strong for relatively low weight. Replaceable sealed bearings. Rock can go through and take out spokes without bending the wheel! impressed me!
Weaknesses:Azonic & the company behind them! Wheel came with a noticeable hop from factory.
Similar Products Used:Mavic 117, 823, 317, Sun rims ditch witch, singletrack, doubletrack.
Bike Setup:Cannondale prophet setup for a little more freeride w/nixon front fork.
Bottom Line:Came from the factory with a hop.. Ok not so bad since I've been abusing them for 3 years and put a big rock through the spokes and after I replaced the spokes it was still true. I've dropped 14 stairs with these and they never fused. Then one day while pedaling home from school my freewheel seizes. LBS try to call azonic, to order a new freewheel... Azonic won't even talk to customers! I've heard about azonic before and they're ridiculusly slow service MONTHS! I just hope I have the freehub before april 2010! for my backup wheelset. So if you buy hope you never have to go through them for bearings, etc.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $220.00
Purchased At:Price Poing
Strengths:WIDE, Confidence inspiring, CHEAP.
Weaknesses:Not perfectly true out of the box, 20mm Adapters aren't attached so there's always a fear of losing one.
Similar Products Used:None.
Bike Setup:2008 Titus El Guapo - Fox VAN 36, DHX Air 5.0 Full XT build + Hayes Stroker ACE brakes. AM+
Bottom Line:
Rear wheel was slightly out of true out of the box, not bad enough to even bother having trued. Super stiff laterally, have maintained good spoke tension, VERY WIDE - holds a tire to a nice shape.

Stickers look kinda cheesy & they're kinda heavy.

But they are a GREAT deal for the price.

Price Paid: $250.00

Strengths:none worth noting
Weaknesses:Rims bend ridiculously easily if you don't take perfect care of the tension.
Similar Products Used:Sunline single tracks' (broke them after a year)
Bike Setup:A dialed 2006 medium bighit, with boxxer team, juicy 5, Fox Vanilla R, truvativ Boobars, E13 Chainguide. All the good stuff
Bottom Line:A decent wheelset for DJ or light freeride but as soon as you start pushing the downhills they seem to magically develop flatspots. Three days at Northstar and both wheels are basically destroyed. Just spend the money and but better Wheels.

Strengths:Solid Wheel, stays true, Durability
Weaknesses:20mm front spacer
Similar Products Used:Mavic, Alex
Bike Setup:Mongoose - Teocali
Bottom Line:Great wheel for the cost
Has been abused on single track and on the streets
Asks for more and stays on track

The front spacer for non 20mm forks is ok, You insert them properly and just have to tighten your skewer a little harder and there is No issues.

These wheels are a little heavier than some, but will stand up to any abuse you throw at them.
And at this price, why wouldn't you

Favorite Trail:Connector
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $250.00
Purchased At:Cambria
Strengths:I have only used the front wheel, its a nice wide rim, very stiff, the red looks great on my bike. Seems to be able to take a good beating and its a good fit on my fork
Weaknesses:My rear wheel came defective right out of the box. It had hop in it. I contacted azonic and they gladly took the wheel back to replace it with a new one. Problem is its been MONTHS and I still have no wheel. At first communication was decent with them, but now I haven't heard anything in over a couple weeks. They promise to send me my new wheel but never deliver. I deserve a refund for dealing with all this crap just to get something in the condition that is expected. They obviously do not inspect their wheels before sending them off to distributors. I'm bummed and just want my new wheel so I can sell my old one.
Similar Products Used:DeeMax, DT Swiss
Bike Setup:Specialized Full Susp.
Bottom Line:If you're buying these, inspect them first and make sure that they fit your fork/bike. I've heard of other people having issues with getting the wheels to fit like they should, using the 20 mm adapters and such. They are strong, light, and provide a solid wide and stiff riding platform IF you can get them on your bike.

Favorite Trail:Monarch Crest
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:Mojo Wheels
Strengths:I had the all white version and they look great from a distance.
Weaknesses:Up close, they look like they built the wheel first then painted it white. At the hub, you can't see a seam where the spoke and hub meet. It looks like a window that's been painted shut. The front 20mm TA adapter binds and grinds against the bearing housing, and that's just from a test fitting right out of the box. Not even a ride on it.
Similar Products Used:lots of Mavics, Sun S-Type
Bike Setup:Yeti ASX with Marzocchi 66
Bottom Line:I, too, have the binding issue with the 20mm front adapter, but only on one side. I have not ridden these or even had a chance to mount a tire for that matter. This was all discovered during a simple test fitting that everybody does when they excitedly bring home something new. I could see where the adapters were grinding on the face of the bearing housing on the non-brake side. After a few test spins, shavings started to appear. It's very obvious that the bearing on that side was recessed literally a hair too much to allow any clearance for the adapter. Maybe the internal bearing spacer is too short, or the adapter was cut too deep. 2 value chilis just because they at least include adapters. 1 overall chili because I can't even ride these things.

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $240.00
Purchased At:Easter Mountain Spor
Strengths:-Affordable
-Burly rims, nice and stiff
-Cartridge bearings
-For those thruaxle riders, can easily be converted from quick-attach to 20mm.
-Rear thruaxle inlcuded, as well as nice skewers for front and rear.
-Can take some pretty heavy abuse
-If you're a freerider or downhiller, they're relatively light.
-Available in several colors, to look awesome on any bike
Weaknesses:-If you're a cross-country rider, they're pretty heavy.
-Other than that, I haven't experienced any.
Similar Products Used:Ditchwitch
Bike Setup:-2008 17" Scott Aspect 55
-Shimano Deore LX Rear Derailleur
-Rockshox Tora 318 U-Turn 85-130mm
-Azonic Outlaws
Bottom Line:I got my outlaws online, and opted for the white rims and black hubs, so as to give my bike a kickin' look. Threw them on to replace the stock rims on my bike (some lower-end 32 spokers) and immediately felt the difference before I even got to the trail. Theyre stiff, and roll incredibly smooth. The nice loud freewheel makes one confident that the freehub won't blow up (as did my previous wheels).

So overall:

-If you're a freerider, DO IT. You will be glad.

-If you're a Cross Country rider trying to cut back on bike weight, stay away from these. If your primary concern is weight, then you probably don't need this much wheel anyways.

-If you're a heavier rider (over 180) like me, or if you tend to break things, then you can fee safe on these beasts. DO IT.

-If you consider yourself an XC rider but still like those bigger drops to flat, or jumps, then DO IT.

Cheers.

Strengths:strong rim
Weaknesses:garbage hubs-overtightened tension from factory
Bottom Line:I must have got the worst wheelset these guys made. The 20mm set up on the front was imperfect within a few mm and I could rock the front wheel back and forth when mounted on my fox talas 36s. Perhaps it was the fork? However other 20mm hubs fit fine in the fork. The rear hub lossened off so the nuts were barely finger tight. If I tightened them the hub had so much drag it was pathetic. The rear hub felt like garbage the day I got them. I sent them back to Azonic who accused me of regreasing the rear hub with 'non approved grease' (I never did which makes one wonder if I got a 'returned' set of wheels?!) and proceeded to 'dial them in' and resent them to me after 4 weeks of phoning them frequently 'uh...we're really backed up here bro, we'll get to them soon'. So, when I got them back, they still had the same issues as before. IMO they have chosen garbage hubs, they don't pay particular attention to manufacturing tolerances and they failed to back it up with their customer service. When I built my bike up I got two Azonic components-the wheels and a set of pedals-both garbage. Azonic is not a bike parts manufacturer, they are a clothing company and should stick with that. Don't buy this garbage-I've been riding for over 15 years. Trust me, there's enough other choices out there.

Strengths:Strong, Cheap, smooth and did i mention that they look great!
Weaknesses:The 20mm Axel adapter are easy to loose, as well as the fact that you have to purchase the rear axle separate.
Similar Products Used:Mag30, MTX, EX325, single track & double track
Bike Setup:Dobermann Pincsher, pike 426, outlaw wheels, avid bb7 with snafu brake lever jaguar cable profile cranks sb8's & truvative bar/stem
Bottom Line:The wheels are very good for the price If you are worried about loosing the 20mm cones use some was (like from a babybell cheeze) in a small ball to hold it onto the wheel. The engagement on the rear hub is kinda bad at first but after a de-grease and a stiffer spring the hub is snappier and louder then ever. The wheel hardly ever needs to be trued or retensioned. The one problem i have had is that it has some "hop" from the factory.

This is a great rim for Freerides, am riders and us park guys

Strengths:The convertible QR/thru axle works absolutely spiffy. Super strong. I rode (and hit small kine jumps) for several weeks with two broken spokes in the front and it stayed true! (I guess 'cause there are 34 others) In fact, after an initial and then occasional spoke tightening, they've stayed true through miles and miles of abuse on unforgiving terrain.
Weaknesses:Rear hub tightens up. This could be because the LBS and I have no clue how to adjust the weird stuff inside. Or maybe the LBS guy was just high. Front hub still spins like a dream though.

We'd always like our parts to be lighter...
Similar Products Used:Rhino Lites, Mavic, WTB speeddisc
Bike Setup:2006 Kona coilair
Bottom Line:Tremendous value for a strong, yet not too heavy and reliable wheelset.
Far from being a gimmick, the convertible QR/thru axle works exactly as advertised. This is helpful because I keep blowing out my thru-axle fork and have to toss on an older quick-release fork.

I have ridden Big Bear a few times this year and Mommoth for 3 days with this wheel set along with every weekend at the Whoops @ Kenter. They have taken a beating and no issues.
They are the P*mpist thing I have seen with White hub-shokes-rim!
They dont seem to be much heavier than the Single Tracks I had on the bike and much much much stiffer when railing the corners and landing turn jumps.
I give them a overall 4 rating only because it is inexcusable to get a rim that is not true right out of the box. Other than that, for the money they are a great deal.

And so far they have only been trued just once and that took no time at all. People, three years on the same set of DH/FR wheels? How much more proof do you need? Not to mention I am not gentle on my bikes at all! I've demolished some incredible parts while this wheel set was on my bike. Including a RaceFace Diablous handlebar! That was my fault though and nothing more. My only complaint this wheel set gets (and it a complaint not a weakness) is that my Maxxis tires are tough to get off the rim. But I went out and got a set of Park oversized metal tire levers and that does the job. Still for the money there is no better wheel. If and when I trash these I will get the exact set of wheels to replace them. Ride on and I can't say it enough BUY THESE!!!

Bottom Line:As soon as i got them i had them trued by a trusty mechanic. Put them on my hardtail and they have been ridden VERRRY hard since. Been riding about 4 hours every day for around 3-4 months and not a single problem. Been bombing rocky rooty, steep dh courses, 25ft+ road gaps and doubles, 5 foot drops to flat and so far not a single problem. Id reccomend them to any dh/fr's on a budget.

Strengths:cheap,strong rims.
Weaknesses:Machine build, rear hub.
Bike Setup:VP-Free
Bottom Line:You pay for what you get. Great deal for the doh.. Needed a wheelset to build up my frame on the cheap. $250 was less than almost any other rear hub alone. Rear wheel loosened up and had to re tension the wheel after a month or so. wheel stayed true and only noticed one day hoisting the bike onto the rack, "holy cr%* those spokes are loose". Six monthes into it had 5 spokes pop on one ride. I thought my front tire was throwing up pebbles that were pinging off the frame. Halfway through the ride I noticed 3 broken spokes by the end there were 5. Relaced the wheel and prorley tensioned and it has been fine and true since. One year into it (6-10 hours on trail per week year round) the rear hub has finally given up. New hub should be here tomorrow. But agian I am paying $210 for the hub alone. Even with five broken spokes the rear rim stayed true and got me home. I would recommend this wheelset, especially if you are handy with a spoke wrench for the initial tensioning the machine just can't manage in the beginning. I probably would not have had to re lace my rear wheel if I had done it sooner.

Come to find out the teeth the Pawls engage on somehow striped free from the hub. HOLY COW I've never seen that before! I have another set on my back up bike, so far they are holding together.

Strengths:pretty darn strong considering how cheap priced they where, not bad at all.
Weaknesses:they look likee sh** , not too creative in the cosmetic department, but it all gets scratched up anyways... whatever.
the front is starting to have play in it when I break front, but, well, what can ya do?
Similar Products Used:sun single tracks, double tracks, bla bla bla.
Bike Setup:Jamis Diablo, minion/high roller combo, a travis 180, Fox, fsa, bla bla bla.
Bottom Line:

At first, I bought this wheel set because I was desparate for a cost-savy 150mm wheel set, and, well... they were there so I bought em. Did not expect em to last that long, planned to replace them within a few months,.. now, I'm contemplating getting another set!

I like the fact that they have a 36 hole set up, and, yes, they have a surprizing strength to weight ratio. they have been alright to me. I have really beat the crap out of these rims, both intentionally and untentionally, and one warrentied frame later, after a bent saddle, tweaked shock hardware, a shear'd deraillure, and a pair of shredded MAXXIS 2ply DH casting tires, these rims still remain! A little scratch up and slightly untrue, but thats more then I can say for the rest of the bike.

They are no DEE Max's or double tracks, but they are nice, about equal in class to the sun ringle single track wheel set, somewhere in that range, maybe better, who knows?... very nice, and definately worth a try....

Bottom Line:Good and strong, but the rear wheel bearings have seized and require replacement after five rides. Not cool, and points to either (or both) cheap bearings with no business in wheels destined for hard use or shoddy work in the overseas factory (gorilla gripping on the wrench during assembly). Otherwise no other problems and the adapters all work well, but I think a wheel should run more than six weeks and five rides before having bearing siezure.

Bottom Line:One of the best deals out there on a FR/DH part. I can't imaging how the poster below would have a problem with his Freehub. It was either a freak accident, the hub wasn't preloaded right, or the pawls weren't greased right. I've been using them on both of my bikes almost as long as they've been out and I've barely had to touch them. Used them for 5-6 ft drops to flat concrete on my hardtail, cased lots of edges, pinned rock-gardens, ridden with flats, and done tons of 10-12ft drops (many that I've cased hard). They've never flinched.

Strengths:Strong, light, good value. Nicely build when I receive them. Installing tire on it is pretty straight forward. I slip my pedal and ran straight on a 9 inch curb at high speed; the wheelset fitted on the boxxer race manage to absorb the impact and was still true after. The rear free hub is much more silence that my other formula free hubs which is clicking when freewheeling.
Weaknesses:Not really a weakness, but when installing onto the fork the 20mm conversion plugs for the front hub fall easily. But you should be able to manage that easily.
Similar Products Used:Alex Supra BH with formula hubs for a second wheelset.
Bike Setup:Giant Faith, Boxxer Race, Diabolous Stem, Easton Monkeybar, etc.
Bottom Line:I purchase this wheelset so that I can have two wheelsets with two different tires so that I would be able to swap between the two base on the type of riding. I've heard that the rim is basically the rebranded alex supra BH that I already own, which is not a bad thing since they are strong. When I receive the wheelset, they are indeed identical. Overall, it is a very strong and light wheelset, good value for the money. The hubs are very versatile since you can convert the front from QR to 20mm through axle. When purchasing, you can also choose the rear hub between the standard 135mm or the wide 150mm.

Strengths:Seemed well made for the price. Needed a bomber set of wheels for a resonable price and they were recommended by my shop.
Weaknesses:One pawl (sp?) in rear hub broke after about 15 rides. Pawls are little teeth in the free hub that catch and drive the wheel when engaged by forward pressure. Things that make the clicking noise in rear free hub.
Similar Products Used:various wheel sets
Bike Setup:Trek Liquid with Marzocchi Z1 Light with 20 mm thru axle. 150 mm travel.
Bottom Line:I'm writting out of disgust of the product service. My shop called Azonic 4 weeks ago when I brought the bike in with the free hub seezing up. I had hoped they would replace the hub and rim. Shop called Azonic and they said to take it apart and see if it could be serviced. Turned out to be a broken pawl. Azonic said that they would send a new pawl. Pawls are smaller than one of my front teeth and would require a 32 cent stamp to send. I sent my fork back for a replacement offer at the same time the pawl broke. I now have my new fork back from Marzocchi and still no pawl from Acronic. My shop has left countless messages and still no response what so ever from Azonic. I rode the wheels about 15 days when the pawl broke climbing a hill. I was told that this wold be a bomber wheel set. I want to ride and now have to buy a new rear wheel because after 4 weeks, still no pawl. This pretty much says it all in back up thier products! I just held my nose and called the shop and told them to but a new wheel on my bike. At this point they could have the wheelset and pawl. I should have listend to some friends that said to spend more money on something else.

Strengths:WIDE, STRONG, 36 HOLE. THE REAR HUB HAS MORE POINTS OF ENGAGMENT / PRAWLS ? ANYWAY, AN XT WILL "CLICK" 16 TIMES IN A FULL REV, AND THE AZONIC CLICKS 24 TIMES. THIS GIVES A SLIGHTLY BETTER PICK UP, AND IT SOUNDS COOL TOO ! IT IS A VERY MELLOW BUZZ ( NOT LOUD LIKE OTHERS. MORE QUIET THAN CHRIS KINGS, RINGLE, AND XT.) 20MM CONVERSION KIT IS COOL.
Weaknesses:CAN'T FIND WEIGHT OF WHEELSET ANYWHERE ON THE NET, SO I BOUGHT A PAIR AND WEIGHED THEM MYSELF.
Bottom Line:A GREAT WHEELSET. WHEN THEY SAY "LIGHT ENOUGH FOR CROSS COUNTRY", I DON'T THINK THEY MENT XC RACING, BECAUSE THESE WOULD BE OVERKILL. BUT FOR GENERAL TRAIL RIDING, THESE WOULD BE FINE FOR EVERYONE THAT IS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT DURABILITY OVER GRAM COUNTING. HERE ARE THE WEIGHT DETAILS:

FRONT W/O CONVERSION KIT = 1111g or 2 lbs 11.2 oz.
REAR W/O SKEWER = 1315.4g or 2 lbs 14.4 oz.
CONVERSION KIT = 113g or 4 oz.

Bottom Line:I like this wheelset so far. They are very stiff and strong without adding too much weight. I also like the ziiiing sound the hubs make when you go airborn. they are versatile if I feel like going to though axel in the future too. A knowledgeable bike mechanic told me they looked almost identicle to the "sun single tracks". I don't know the price on those, but these seem reasonably priced compared with other similar products, and are a great deal less than the crossmax and dee max wheelsets some bikeshops always are pushing. I can't justify the difference when these do the job quite nicely. I am 6-2 205 lbs. with no broken spokes on drops so far and don't expect them with such a strong wheelset.
