Product Description

Wanna be the trail boss? Maybe the Continental Trail King will make the appointment and you'll be able to exert your rule over all that you look upon. The Trail King UST is a large volume tire that makes even the nastiest root and boulder strewn section of trail feel easy. For the same reason, it's also a great bike-park tire. The 2.4 and 2.2 versions use the Black Chili rubber compound on the tread, with carbon black rubber sidewalls. And because it's a UST tubeless tire, the interior is lined with a thin layer of rubber that prevents air bleed over time. You'll pump less and ride more. It uses Continental's APEX sidewall design. This means that there is a strip of additional material above the bead that helps stiffen the sidewall, increasing tire stability and control in hard turns and across off-camber terrain. This extra sidewall support also means that you can run slightly lower tire pressures without worrying about burping your tires or losing control. For those who use UST tires with tubes, it further reduces the chance of pinch-flatting. The 3-ply casing has a combined 180 tpi and is overlapped twice underneath the tread for added puncture protection. The Black Chili compound tread rubber is a great, grippy material. The Continental alchemists have milled traditional carbon black rubber down to nano-particles and then built it back into treads. The nano-sized rubber flecks -- think of a soccer ball on the face of the earth -- are able to actually put more rubber down on the trail in the same small area. It means 30% increased adhesion, 26% lower rolling resistance, and 5% improved mileage. Where regular rubber grips, Black Chili will grip better, and from what we've seen it seems to shed dirt better too. Carbon black rubber isn't boring anymore. The Continental Trail King UST is compatible with tubeless wheel systems, though it can be used with a tube as well. It has a foldable Kevlar bead. It is available in 2.4 and 2.2 versions. The claimed weights are 1000g for the 2.2 and 1100 grams for the 2.4 version. Please note that the Trail King uses the same tread design and basic casing construction as the Rubber Queen. So if you're a fan of the Queen, these are the way to go.Application: AM/FR/DH USTGround: All Conditions

Strengths:    Super nice, tall tire. Give you the semi-29er feel on a 26er. Wide tire for a 2.2, but running it on the front is perfect

Weaknesses:    Mounting and seating the bead

Bottom Line:
I also reviewed the Mountain King UST because I use that one on the rear. Where as I run the Trail King UST on the front. This tire is wide and tall. It give the bike a semi-29er feel. That's how tall they are. Don't get scared off. They are a grippy tire with a wider-than-expected size. At 2.2 I have have tires that were not as wide. But this is a bonus. Mine is on the front where you don't want to wash out. The backl washing out is bad enough, but the front is painful. Would really recommend this tire. There are so many choices (like car tires- funny how bikes and cars are so alike) but you won't regret this purchase. Have fun. Ride like hell.

Strengths:    Great "volume". Great grip as a rear.

Weaknesses:    tbd

Bottom Line:
This is a review of the 2.2 UST Black Chili tire. So far so good. Fantastic grip in the dry desert rocky environment I ride (Phoenix, AZ). Loving this tire so far. Sidewalls are more than adequate for a non dual ply tire. Love the dual adjacent middle row, grabs the rock climbs much like a Minion or the Chunder.
