Strengths:    So far works, light, fairly easy to install

Weaknesses:    installing can be a bit tricky

Bottom Line:
You can order these to fit your wheel size. Once you order them the come flat and rolled up. The Kevlar is bonded to a white fabric tape. The Skins come with a talc power that help for installing. Once you remove your wheel and tire I would check while you have the tire off that there isn't any road debris or punctures through the tire. Put a bit of talc powder inside the tire and spread it around. Then unroll the skin and place it inside the tire. I don't think this is that easy to install if you are not used to fixing your own flats. It is a bit tricky getting the Skins centered on the tire all the way around and then putting the tube in and inflating the tire. In a way you just have to hope for the best that it doesn't go out of place. The next time I replaced the tube I checked and the Spin Skin had molded itself to the tire. When you check it after a few rides you can see if it is out of place at any point on the tire. So far I have had non of the cracking or breaking that others have experienced. I have gone about 1000 km so far and changed to another set of tires. So far I have had one flat but on inspecting the tire there was no puncture so I think the flat was from a pinched or defective tube. So far it has been worth the price of admission.

Strengths:    They do what they are supposed to, keep tires puncture free.

Weaknesses:    Mucho Expensivo...

Bottom Line:
I am on my second set of these things. My first set lasted four years and did exactly what they were supposed to do...no flats! They did end up disintegrated on my third set of tires and had to be replaced. No flats for four years, not bad for fifty bucks. They work just as well as Mr. Tuffy's but are 1/3rd the weight. They are kind of expensive, but are well worth it if you consider how much riding time is wasted changing flat tires. If you are having issues with these things coming apart try putting a little talc power in with them to cut down on the amount of friction.

Strengths:    Lightweight, easy to install

Weaknesses:    Falls apart

Bottom Line:
I installed the economy version of these liners in both the front and back tires (Maxxis Detonators, great commuter tires) and rode them for a summer of daily commuting (~1500 miles). Near the end of the summer I got a rear flat. When I removed the tire and patched the tube, I noticed that the kevlar part of the SpinSkin had broken into hundreds of little pieces and those little pieces were wearing through the tube. I can't say for sure, but it seemed like the broken pieces of kevlar were actually the cause of my flat. I was curious to see if the front tire liner had the same problem. It was fine. I don't know why one fell apart and the other was fine. I installed both the same way. All I can say is that I won't buy them again.

Bottom Line:
I was suspicious when I bought these but I did anyway. They were expensive and didn't cover the width of the tire to begin with. I figured what the hell, and put them in. My commute to work is almost 18 miles and I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have flats holding me up. After the second day I noticed a small leak and changed the tube. The same day the next tube went flat on the way home 4 miles from my house. I had another spare to put on. As others have mentioned, I noticed that there was lots of rubber chunks in the tire, I think I experienced the same problem with the tube being rubbed through by the liner. I'm going to try tuffy liners instead. I hope I can still return these to Performance.

Strengths:    Light and extremely strong.

Weaknesses:    None

Bottom Line:
I am somewhat confused by the bad reviews here. I run the race series, which are stronger than the Duro and I have had these in multiple sets of tires over the last three years. I dont know how many miles I have on them, but I should have replaced them by now and I have not done so. For fun, I took one of my tires off tonight to see if mine had any cracks in them and they did not. These have gone strong for more than three years and are still in good condition. Oh, and I have not had a flat in over three years either. I ride in the Arizona desert and one of my daily rides has has sharp shail and Ocotillo thorns all over the place. I love these things.

Bottom Line:
Too many people on this thread whine about how they wear out. What planet are you from? If I can get 1000 miles out of these things that is the best $35 I could have spent. In the meantime I was fixing at least a flat a week (*&%^$ goatheads!!!). Just the time they save me, let alone the cost of tubes, makes $35 bucks a dream come true.
If they wear out after a month, then I'll complain. In the meantime, I look forward to having to buy a new set after 1000 miles of no flats!!!!

Strengths:    Lightweight, work for a while

Weaknesses:    Expensive, and are worthless after 1 year

Bottom Line:
These are great for a short period of time, but then they crumble/crack and no longer work. I put some on in May 2005, and in May 2006 my tire suddenly blew out from a small (1 inch) rock. That is no good, since you ride over many rocks when mountain biking. While fixing the flat, I noticed that the rock happened to hit exactly where one of the many cracks was in the liner. I have now switched to Slime liners instead, since they never wear out (but are heavier).

I keep the tires at about 55 lbs all the time, just like it says on the side of the tire.

These liners should only be used by somebody (a rich person) who needs lightweight liners for a race or something, and then plans to throw them away.

Bottom Line:
Just an update of a review about 18 mos. ago.

I still use these on both my road and mountain bike, and they still decompose after 1,000 miles or so (sorry I cannot be more precise). I've never had any problems with them wearing a hole thru my tubes, however; they won't stop metal bits (what will?), but they are great with glass--I pulled about 6 or 7 glass shards out of my tires last weekend.

I think I installed them properly (I read/follow the instructions :-), and I always pump up to the max before each ride. I'm really not sure yet why they fall apart the way they do. Maybe they cannot take high pressure?

I guess the bottomline for me is, despite all the problems mentioned here, most of which I have experienced myself, I'm still willing to shell out extra for something that will decrease the number of flats I get without a big performance hit. These definitely do that.

Strengths:    WOW, these can almost stop a bullet! For the first 2yrs I almost laughed each time I saw broken glass.

Weaknesses:    After 2yrs/2,000 miles (3,220kms), they crumbled badly and caused 2 flats within 1.5 weeks.
The "company" now "claims" they can last up to 3,000 miles or 5,000kms - hohoho!

Bottom Line:
Until they crumble you can almost ride on a road of broken glass just like those fire walkers. But after 2yrs...
Bottom Line: Once bitten, twice shy.

Strengths:    This review is for Road wheels/tires. Strenghts are light weight, and properly installed, might help.

Weaknesses:    I live in a wet climate, and did not experience the heavy cracking that others did. But I did find that this product did not help much on reducing flats, and in some instances, actually caused flats if they were not perfectly installed, and the tires perfectly inflated.

Bottom Line:
I would not buy this item again. I have found that Mr. Tuffy is a far, far superior product (if heavier). If I needed to go light weight, I would simply change tires more often, replacing as soon as the tread is worn.

Strengths:    These do reduce the risk of flats and they are light. I've had four* flats in about 5,000 miles since I started using them. (*One of these flats tore a 1-inch gash in a gatorskin, so I doubt anything could have prevented it)

Weaknesses:    They seem to split after a few hundred miles. Once this happens, hope that you don't get a flat, since changing a tube then becomes problematic (unless you want to toss that very expensive spin skin).

Bottom Line:
I use them on both my mountain bike (about 50 mi/wk) and my road bike (about 125 mi/wk). They do work, but they are not invincible. The MTN bike ones seem a little tuffer, but alas, I had a rear flat yesterday and noticed the spin skin was also split.

The fact that they break apart so quickly is kind of depressing consider how much they cost. If they could fix this I would give them more chilis.

Strengths:    None, I would not recommend this product to anyone, it let me down.

Weaknesses:    These liners broke apart in several places by just riding 57 miles on a rails-to-trails ride.

Bottom Line:
I purchased these liners to prevent flats in a big race I was competing in. It was a 40 mile cross country race on the New River Trail. I was 27 miles into this race and had a flat. When I pulled out the tube it had been pinched by the broken tire liner. The rear liner broke in 3 sections. The very thing I bought to prevent a flat, instead gave me a flat. I had only ridden on these liners for 57 miles, a 30 mile pre-race trail run and was 27 miles into a 40 mile race when these liners caused me to flat out.

Strengths:    They work well against the devilish goat heads (when installed and used as per the manufacturer's instructions).

Weaknesses:    They are not wide enough - once in a great while a goat head slips around the edge. Also, can not run both low tire pressure and widely spaced lugs or they will break apart at each lug spacing. Doesn't fit 29er tires without adding a piece from an old set.

Bottom Line:
These liners are awesome and work well when installed and run properly (as in you use the mgfr recommended instructions and tire psi). I have used these since 1999 after having 6 goathead flats on one ride! Since then I have had 6 flats in 4 years-all from those nasty goat heads puncturing through a side-wall. My first set lasted 2 years. I now run the SpinSkins in all my bikes. The liners do not fit 29er tires (too short) so I added a piece from an old liner. It has worked well.
