Submitted by John a Weekend Warrior from Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Date Reviewed: February 10, 2007
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $4.00
Purchased At:Bike Canada (www.bikecanada.com) 2005
Strengths:Rubber is a bit thicker then regular tubes, Aids in better air retention, Aids in better punture resistance, Cheap price.
Weaknesses:Weight is a bit more then expected, Need to order then online or fly down to Florida and buy from one of many stores.
Similar Products Used:Cheng Shin, Panaracer Greenlite, Norco, Bontrager Narrow, Maxxis Flyweight, Lambert Select Self Healing (presta) and Slime Self Healing (presta).
Bike Setup:2001 Trek Fuel 90 Disk
Bottom Line:This review is for the IRC Torque Tube/presta/26"x1.750"-2.125" *NOT* the Light version. A slightly thicker tube that's also slightly heavier but a fair trade for extra protection against punctures. The tubes require less top-ups then regular thickness butly tubes and far less top-ups then narrow/thin butyl tubes. A very low priced tube when compared to - Norco, Panaracer, Bontrager, Maxxis & Lambert Select tubes. An online order is required to purchase them so you need to order other items to justify the $7 shipping + taxes (Canadian).
Bottom Line: The best butyl tube I've used to date. The least expensive, the least failures and the best air retention. I've used this tube from 2005, on my front wheel with an IRC Metro Duro (26"x1.5") tire. The rear wheel uses a Slime Self Healing (26"x1.750"-2.125") tube with an IRC Metro Duro (26"x1.5") tire starting March 2007.
