Strengths:
These tires have lasted longer than any tire I have ever purchased. Currently using it as the front tire on both my bikes- for years. I have never had a puncture or a flat.
The tread looks like the day I bought it. It corners very well, the 2.5 has given me a lot of confidence going over logs and rock patches. Great front tire.
Weaknesses:
None. Please do not change.

Bottom Line:
If you want a tire you do not need to replace every season this is the one for you. I agree with others that it grips on rocks and roots. Doesn't clog up with mud. Low rolling resistance. Great for logs and rock patches. Now searching for the perfect WTB rear tire. It is heavy but better than on the couch nursing an injury because you have a thin, light tire that slides under you.

Large side walls give great comfort, lugs provide great traction in anything 'Cruces has to offer, Sealed in less than 10 minutes with Stan's No Tubes conversion.
Weaknesses:
Lugs tend to creap a bit in slow technical sections.

Tested out a Weirwolf lt 2.55 from parents mtn tandem before purchasing the weirwolf 2.5 for my bike.
I got this tire from a company in Great Britan (wiggle) dirt cheap!!! Localy this tire runs ~$55, but I was able to get it and my rear wolverine for $60 (shipped).
I ride XC with some high speed sections and some super slow technical sections as well, and this tire eats it all up like a light snack. All the trails are southern NM desert sand and slick rock (FYI)
Each time I go out riding now, I'm able to ascend portions of the trail that even the geared folks are walkin'. It tracks like its on rails, which keeps me out of trouble.
I'm lovin' the massive volume of this tire. It makes rough parts of the trail much smoother, which allows me to bomb down them now. The traction is great. This tire takes me where ever I point it.
I've had a few close calls coming around corners, but the side lugs bite in and save me every time. I'm givin' it 5 chilis for value, because it's a great tire to begin with and I got it for $19.
The four chilis overall is because I've noticed the larger lugs tend to walk/creap if I'm on off camber slick rock. That could be that my air pressure is 30psi, and I just need higher pressure for the more technical trails.
GREAT PURCHASE!

Soft, supple, ride with tons of grip on wet roots, rocks, wooden bridges, mud, leaves, grass, whatever. Tremendous braking strength pointed forward in the rear. Tire characteristics change considerably depending on pressure used.
Weaknesses:
A bit heavy and sucky to carry speed well from downhills into uphills tight rollers. Mud clean-out is very dependent on water content of mud. Tire characteristics change considerably depending on pressure used. This can be a plus or a minus depending on whether you take the time to get to know how pressure affects the tire.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
Stock '95 Specialized M2 hard-tail with twist shift and canti brakes.
Bottom Line:
Rode these on a 12 mile club mud-fest with lots of tight rollers, 3-12 ft mud-puddles 2-8" deep, lots of short, steep climbs, wet roots, lots of wet rocks, a few mossy, wet wooden bridges and a lot of 12-18" wide single track rutted 6-18" deep. These are my tentative conclusions after talking my ride around the club and reading reviews here for 2 hours.
This high volume tire is giving me the one thing I really wanted - a soft ride front and back. I get a forgiving ride up front to help a scant 80mm fork, and a back and butt saving soft hard-tail ride. That in addition to a good hookup in wet conditions both front and back.
I can't lock up the back wheel no matter how hard I brake except in long, deep mud-puddles. I tried steep downhill single track, wet leaves, light gravel, coarse sand and hard-pack. Even pointed forward the back wheel climbs wonderfully, although a bit less than the 40psi I used might help in 2-3" round gravel. Reversed, I expect the rear wheel would climb nearly anything. It stays hooked up extremely well due to the high volume construction, a flexible sidewall, and very wide tread. (used 1.95s before)
Over most roots and rocks it just flexes and hangs on like a scared monkey. As is implied, it keeps the back end of the bike quiet and well planted. The huge casing depth helps because it keeps you trusting and in the saddle where you weight on the back wheel really helps.
At my age I really appreciate coming home without a sore back and bruised butt. The high volume "Inner Peace" design goes a long way towards addressing the gap between a hard-tail and dualie.
On the downside, and this is attendant with the size and volume of the tire, so I don't see this as a design flaw, these tires push a lot of air and weigh in at almost 800 grams. Since this is rolling weight it slows the bike down a lot between peaks on rollers as it is hard to gather and carry speed well from downhill to uphill.
The LT (low tread) profile of the tire suck less than they otherwise would, so WTB has made an effort to address this issue. On the 2.55 LT Team FR version I have, the center tread base of the tire is textured. I think this is to keep the boundary layer of air from attaching itself to the tire to make it suck less, but I have a hunch that makes it hold onto mud more tenaciously.
The mud clean-out on these tires is very dependent on the amount of water content in the mud. When going through puddles at the bottom of rollers these tires clean out very, very well, and your clothes will show it when you get home too! Once you get up out of the wet though, the mud starts to pack in. It makes the tire less sucky, but less biting in the center too.
Taking a page out of my clicker snowboard binding experience, I am going to try cleaning these tires very dry with hot water and Ultra Dawn, rinsing well, drying, and then applying 3 coats of Rain-X to the tread about an hour between coats. I have a hunch the Rain-X will get rubbed off the blocks but stay attached to the tread texturing very nicely. If so these tires should shed mud with the very best with only an occasional reapplication of Rain-X.
The side tread will lift you right up out of even the tallest single-track, so make sure you hit your line right. Lower tire pressures will minimize this, but will also make the tire wash out more then on sharp turns. Just another reason to run a bit more tire pressure in the front than the back from what I can tell at this point.
Some have suggested that wider rims would result in a less squirrelly ride, and that makes sense to me. The flexible sidewall can move around a lot at low pressures. This is what allows it to cling to rocks and roots and soak up trail bumps so well, so it is a trade-off that can be tweaked a fair amount by adjusting tire pressure, but still a trade-off.
Since Sacramento has mostly dry conditions, when spring comes I will be looking at the Wolverine and even Vulpine for the front, or maybe even a Vulpine for the back turned around, but have a hunch I will miss the soft ride in back too much so will likely try to save weight and suck on the front to I can afford the plush ride in back.

That was the only puncture I ever had, EVER with thise tires (before I thought that replacing tubes was something normal...). For Santa Barbara conditions, this is the best tire I've ridden. I ride a 2.35 in back and the 2.5 up front. And set up in this fashion, my buddies suck wind trying to keep up with me downhill. The tire climbs well, but is better suited to long, gut-busting fire road climbs than to technical ascents. The tire squirms around a bit over wet rocks and roots and muds up like chocolate fudge, but we rarely see those conditions in our area. They're great for hardpack, loose over hardpack and loose, loamy soil. When I wear out these bad boys, I'll definitely buy the same again. All around a great tire!!! A bit expensive, but I think they're worth their weight in greenbacks.

Strengths:
Grippy, roots, rock, hard surface. Light for a big tire. Pretty cheap.
Weaknesses:
Slow roll in dry soil, squirms on hard under surface in thin sand, rolls slower than motoraptor, but lighter. Not a as high air volume in it as some 2.4's, 2.5 measured to the largest outside knob EDGE. Not heavy, but its not a good tire to run on a single speed rear, it dies hard in deep sand, Conti vertical tracks and floats better and its a small 2.3, a 2.4 Kenda Cortez is bigger, and much faster out of the sand box when you hammer on leaving a sandy hole. Cortez loses mo when in deep sand but still works better. A lot fasterr in 1 to 4 inch deep stuff. Very loose bead, Stan's will work, but its a POOR choice.
One speed 69er franken bike conversion, from free ride frame, as dedicated sand bike, 36-17 cog, WTB dual duty 29er disc rim front, DD 26 rim rear, on one midge bar, with WTB Weir Wolf LT on the front. Now a Kenda Cortez on the rear. Tried 6 different tires on the rear from a crow to the Kenda. Use Stans No Tubes.
Bottom Line:
I ride in a lot of sand part of the year, daily. Bike has HTA and STA as 69er to be ideal sand bike geometry, weight on rear, 68.5 HTA big light front tire, one speed, no bull when you test for roll and carry and tracking, hunting for a soft stuff REAR tire. Panaracer razor was fast, but gave it up, not as soon as the crow, moto was ok, but heavy, Conti was stable beyond its size in sand, but slow rolling, but still faster than the Weirwolf 2.5 race. Weir Wolf felt less stable and smaller than it looked, felt dead and slow. The Kenda on the other hand, felt fast, rolled fast up to speed and carried that roll, felt supple, and did not SQUIRM against a hard under surface when the knobs bite through sugar sand. I liked the WTB Weir Wolf tire over roots and solid surface for grip, but it is too slow for a single speed in soft stuff, ride rocks, it might be good, but soft soil...it will exhaust you.

In the sand, theyre not that great, but what tire is? Switch the rear around to run in reverse direction (good advice for any non rear specific tire)
There were climbs on some trails that I couldnt make due to lack of traction with other tires. These things stuck to the trail like a glue. They roll a lot better then their weight or size would hint at.
A little pricey, unless ya find em on sale, but I will be specing my bikes with the various width Weirwolves untill they stop making em, then I'll prolly stock up on em.

Bike Setup:
67 with a Z150, Juicy 7's, Swinger 4 way, WTB Wheels etc.
Bottom Line:
Initial Concept: I never really understood the whole entire concept behind these tires. To me the tires have a XC like tread on a DH sized tire. I never really understood that. To me, any Downhiller would proabobly skip this tire and get Maxxis or Kenda. I do not think the tire should be oriented towards the Freeride and Downhill world with its 2.5 tire size. Its a fat tire for Trail and XC bikes to me...
Setup: Mounting the Wierwolf on some wheels may be difficult to remove and put on. The wire bead is the main cause, and possibly the folding bead would suit the rim better. The wire reacts differently with different wheelsets.
Value: WTB makes good priced tires. The Wierwolf's are a good bargain at a reasonable price. It can get you in the door to the good tire market, but I still think for the price it falls short. Anyone looking to get a nice tire in the first place might pass-over WTB and head towards Kenda, Maxxis and Michellin. The price is acceptable if the Wierwolf is the tire you are set on, but people looking to get a high end tire, will pas up the Wierwolf. Overall, good value.
Performance: I absolutley hated my Wierwolfs. The tread pattern was horrible to me. Sure, the Wierwolf will hold up and grip exeptionally on hard pack, anything else like mud, dust, or loose stuff and you will immediatley hate your Wierwolf. It cakes up with mud in a second, and can't hold a straight line on any off-camber sections. The tire will slow down dramatically in dusty or loose areas. My beef with the tread pattern is mainly the side tread, or lack-there-of. Sure it has a nobbie on the side, every inch or more, but thats not enough. During a race, in a off-camber section, I could feel my tires losing traction and grip, with my new Kenda Nevegal's, I feel way more confident and in control. The Wierwolf rolls pretty fast with the right tire pressure, but if you run the tires with low pressure, they immediatley get slow and become more prone to losing grip.
Overall: I never liked my Wierwolfs, which is why I dumped them for my Kenda Nevegals. I don't plan on buying Wierwolf's ever again. They're a nice tire for hardpack riding, but my bike sees a variety of terrain, and I should run a tire ready for it. The Wierwolfs simply can't cut it in many terrain types.
Value: 3 Chili's cause its a good price, yet fork over some more cash and you could get a far, far better tire. Overall: 2 Chili's: Rolls fast, and holds up in hardpack, but sucks everywhere else.

I was really impressed with these tires. Our trails consist of mainly rocks and roots with lots of mud. After riding these tires for a month now I've yet to feel them slip or slide enough on rocks and roots to bother me. I've never had a set of tires grip so well. They also did very well at shedding mud. I paid close attention to this when my friend that has the 2.1 versions complained about his balling up with mud. I guess the wider version sheds the mud better. I was also impressed on how well they grip. I have never once spun out on the trail. Even when powering through nasty deep mudholes. These tires are definely the best I run for rocks and roots and mud. As far as the sidewalls being week. I routinely ride through nasty rock gardens and have never had a problem. I wouldn't recommend these tires for dry tame conditions. That would just be overkill, but for mud, rocks, and roots. These tires can't be beat.

Sidewalls are rather thin (although not paper thin, they are thinner then what you would expect for this tire's size and intended use). They claim 2.5, but more like 2.35 or maybe 2.4 (this is size I wanted anyway).
'04 Turner 5-Spot, Nixon Platinum fork (in repairs - read my review), Mavic 321 rims, Avid Juicy 7 brakes.
Bottom Line:
This is a great all around tire, for the Arizona terrain (Dirt & Rocks) and trails. Although the sidewalls are the only downfall of this tire, they don't appear to be a huge issue for me - I've skidded off some sharp rocks and rubbed the sidewalls, but no damage as of yet. Compared to other tires of this size, they are much lighter and because of their knobs, the corner extremely well - be prepared, these tires will bite on banks/turns/swithbacks... so ride through, where you used to want to brake. All in all, I like these tires, and should the sidewalls get punctured, I will more than likely replace them with another set.

One day at the slopes of not enought traction while braking was enough, i had to go back to my Mobster. i think for the weight its a great tire but if your like me you forgot about weight a long time ago. price is good not bad selling at 35 Bucks compared to 60ish for my Beloved Maxxis tires but then again what kinds of riding are you doing and how hard are you riding are all factors when Buying and selecting a tire. i recomend this tire for XC use But if your into freeride or ehavier stay away when you hit the SUpertechnical stuff youll be dissapointed, specially if you are already using something from the maxxis line or intense line. and always remember Recycle... ride your Bike again and again and again......

Bottom Line:
I tend to ride a little bit of everything - from hardpack, rock solid rooty trails up in the Bay Area to Big Bear's duff, and I don't have the time or money to run lots of different tires. Honestly, with the Weirwolfs I don't have to. I used to run the lighter versions, which along with being screaming fast gave amazing grip when rolling onto the side knobs. I now use the super hero DH versions, a 2.5 front and rear, and the Weirwolfs hook up amazing even in the thick loose dust of late season ski resorts. I have run <20 psi and taken tabletops without flatting, which with my style of casing jumps is a miracle. The low center knobs devour dirt at a scary rate, but are surprisingly predictable and confidence-inspiring even in a drift, and the tall side knobs latch on and into anything. To me the Weiwolfs are an all-around tire with no compromises. Of any tire front / rear setup that I have tried, I still use a Weirwolf front and rear; they look awesome and grip even better.

Race (kevlar) version best used with wide rims (30+ mm wide) DH version is best (Weirwolf 2.3 FR for lighter duty applications)
Great tire for a downhill bike: Excellent cornering, good in duffy dry conditions, also pretty good in the mud. Controlled predictable drifting unlike the older MotoRaptor 2.4. Large volume helps it in the loose powdery ski resort type of soil. Sticky side knobs help it hook up in hardpacked conditions. Still works will in the mud because of the tall knobs. Good all around performer. Team DH version with Inner Peace/Super Duty Casing/Dual DNA rubber (sticky rubber side knobs)is the best. Unbeatable pinch flat resistance. The lighter weight Race version if used on an XC or FR bike is best used with wide rims. It's a bit more lively and tends to fold over on narrow rims at the low pressures that you can run because of its large volume tire.

for cornering and control the unique tread design of the weir wolf makes this tire the best for loose, high speed, rocky downhills. you actually can feel the front tire hook up like carving a turn on snow skis. for increased control i recommend using a the 2.5 weirwolf for front and rear. though this tire works best in looser dirt, it rolls well enough on tackier conditions making it a great all around tire.

Wanders in loose, fist-sized gravel, but what wouldn't be shifty on death marbles? Under lo-P it floats over scree slopes nicely tho.
I first used this tire when I rented a 7" Stinky at Whistler last summer. Then I went out and bought one for my own ride!
I love this tire up front! Wish there was a 2.6-2.8 version available. The box profile tends to keep my bike upright, conversely it digs into the turns giving me good control. Every tire should have angled ridges on the side, it makes for superior turning.
I have the Laser DH version, I find it's heavy enuff, but then I like rotational weight -> gyro effect.

They dont hold well in corners and pack with mud too easily. I find it hard to believe that there is so many great reviews about them. I must have gotten tires with a messed up compound, because they are absolutely horrible. The last straw was a couple of weeks ago when I was riding with a friend. He had just gotten a new bike and we were trying it out on the downhill near my house. He hasnt ridden downhill much and he bought his first serious bike. Anyway, he smoked me down the hill. Then he was giving me crap about crashing 3 times on the way down. I asked him to trade bikes for the next run. On the next run he crashed 4 times and I smoked him. He said that my tires wouldnt let him hold in the corners and washed out everywhere. The same thing that I had been b*^&n about. Our bikes are set up very similar, but he was running some IRC 2.3" tires. His bike railed the corners and wouldnt pack up with mud. I have ridden tons of bikes and tire combos and have never had so many problems. These tires might work great somewhere else in the country but I have yet to find a type of terrain that I was comfortable riding on.

Bottom Line:
I've had the chance to ride this setup about 4x now and I LOVE the WW 2.5s. If they get better after a break-in period, as some have suggested, then all the better.
The tire is light as hell for a 2.5. I'd say the area I've noticed the biggest difference is for steep, rocky technical descents where I'm behind the saddle doing one long, controlled skid. For the course I usually ride, there were a few downhill spots like these that I would always lose grip on the front and end up bailing, but now I'm nailing them with regularity. I just feel a lot more in control with this tire on the front.
I ride in PA so these are a big help in the mud and on any loose surface. The skipping I noticed on hardpack is overshadowed by how badass these handle on everything else. They dig like a shovel.

Bottom Line:
12 hours of riding wet rocks, roots, mud in West Virginia have made me a believer in Weirwolf 2.5 Race as a front tire, with Stans no-tubes, rotating in the recommended direction, with 30 to 32 lbs pressure. This is the fourth big tire, larger than 2.1, that I have tried over the years and it is the best in wet Eastern conditions (as a front). Gives lots of confidence on roots, dynamite on oblique roots, it will even climb over roots nearly parallel to the direction of travel. If you ride over endless roots, you will hit some at poor angles. The Weirwolf can slip a bit, and then mangage to re-grip a root! WV knocked me down a few times, but I never went down due to losing the front. This tire outdoes the wet performance of every tire that I have ever tried, including little skinny mud tires an old favorite, the very hard to find old Panaracer Dart 2.2 SC. It is big and absorbant. Good on wet rocks of all sizes, shapes, and textures. Very nice stable braking behavior, it doesn't pinball all around the trail. Nice light steering off road. Very solid turning behavior in low speed soft technical worming around. It will climb up and out of a parallel rut, even wet clay, but eat your Wheaties because it can also highside you out of the rut if you don't take charge... be aggressive in leaving the rut and you will be fine, otherwise it might slam you with its surprising grip. Felt fine in turns at speed in the wet too. The tire weighs probably 100 to 150 grams more that my normal 2.0 to 2.1 choice... on the trail I could not in anyway sense the additional weight, only the additional comfort, security, and performance. It is all plusses for wet weather trail riders. It fits in my 2004 Marzocchi MX Pro ETA fork and under XTR V-brakes without a fuss. The best in the wet, in the front, for me... riding since 1987.

I have only used this tire in the front. It's the "Race" version. I usually run the Mutanoraptor 2.24 on back in the winter and the Mutanoraptor 2.4 in the summer. I'm 230 lbs. and run it around 40 psi. I ride it mostly on hardpack, but it does go through mud in the winter. I've never had a flat. I'm not super-techno but it has a consistent, reliable feel. It's predictable. I can corner with it pretty hard and fast. Once in a while it will drift on hardpack, but the last time it did was my fault (I was positioned wrong on the bike and it broke loose on a good corner at high speed...I didn't crash though). I like the size and weight for all-around trail riding. I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I can't really think of anything better to run in the front (if you have any suggestions for mostly hardpack please let me know). It has worn really well...you should get a lot of miles out of this tire.

Wide and a lot of grip. Super cool looks--I love the wolf track tread! Excellent in mud and wet. Price--retails for only $40.
Weaknesses:
Not the fastest tire, but the traction makes up for it. Besides, it's 2.5 in wide, what would you expect? It does throw a lot of the mud on you when riding in the slop, but who cares?
This is a great tire. It has excellent traction, and corners very well. It gives me more confidence racing down the trails. Others complain that it's width isn't a true 2.5--when you look at it, it may look narrower than the Moto 2.4, but that is due to the design of the tread, which makes it look narrower than it is. When spinning, it looks just as wide as the Motos (hard to tell see the extra width when dealing with only 0.1 in difference). However, it doesn't quite have as much air volume as the Motos. I haven't tried it as a rear tire, yet, but as well as it works in the front, I'm sure it must be at least decent in the rear as well. Overall, great tire, especially for the price--used Pricepoints price-match program to get it for only $20.

This is an update to previous review below. I love these tires on wet, rocky, rooty trails. They do impart a price though. They are slow!! First ride I used them on was a trail with lots of rocks, and wet slimy roots where your biggest energy loss is from loss of traction. Here they are excellent. My next ride was on a faster, more hardpack trail where it is good to attack with a quick burst up the numerous climbs. Here they felt like you were dragging a corpse behind you. Very slow, and big loss of acceleration. So now I am mixed on my feelings for these tires. Awesome in total nasty, but very slow and doggy. Especially compared to the Mythos I was running. I am going to try a pair of Specialized Roll-X Pros today with Stans no-tubes, and see how those do. They are even lighter than the Mythos. Guess I need to find out where Prince got those motorcycle tires he had in the movie "Purple Rain". You know, the ones that are a street tire one minute, and when he hits the dirt they turn into a full knobby. After all the years, I still have not found those for sale anywhere!

I run these at 36psi with Stans No-tubes, and they stick like glue. I don't know what Brother Jethro is talking about. Both me and my friend are running these and love em in the wet. Keep in mind that the 2.5s have a grippier compound than the 2.1s. You can feel the difference just with your finger. I run the front chevron fwd and the back tire reversed. That way those lugs sticking out on the sides help you dig in and climb. I climbed hills that just the other day I spun out on with the Mythos. They also roll right over wet rocks instead of sliding off of them. They rail corners, and give you confidence everywhere!! They also never clogged up at all. I think they are the best winter tire I have ever tried, and I have been riding here since 1985. I don't know what some of these guys are thinking saying they don't grip wet rocks?!! As I rode up the hill, I noticed that I couldn't keep my line on off cambers and anything that tried to put these tires sideways. Cornering in those conditions is scary. Going down, I never rode my brakes more. They seem to catch on obstacles and deflect the bike to places I wasn't planning to go. Not good! To be fair, I rode them for a few months in hardpack, and the forests in Hawaii. They were fine in those conditions. Today, I put on an old set of Kujo DH's. I tried to be as objective as possible, and have found that though these are old treads, they work great!! Quiet and track where I want to go. Very good straight-line braking power. Looks awesome, leaves cool tracks.
Weaknesses:
Cornering was sketchy, at best. Didn't even begin to grip on wet logs or rocks. Instantly packs with mud (in the thick stuff). Gets knocked sideways by roots.
Bottom Line:
This is a review for both the 2.1" & 2.5" versions...
Man, I really, really wanted to love these tires. They're cheap, they look so cool, and all the reviews here were raving about them. (And I own two sets of them!)
Well, after trying both sizes (2.1 on XC bike, 2.5 on FR/DH), for several rides at various pressure levels, I have to retire them.
Here's what I found:
It's very wet here in Washington, so take that into account, but...
HARD WET SURFACES: These tires wouldn't ever grip on wet rocks or roots. In fact, they ranked among the worst I've ever tried. (I tried the rear in both directions -- didn't seem to matter).
THICK MUD: When I hit some peanut-butter-like mud, they packed instantly (okay, that's expected, but they didn't clean out -- everyone else's tires did, but not these: I had to hose the mud out).
ROOTS & ROCKS: No matter what pressure I used, it seemed like I could never hold a steady course. Every single little root (especially those ones that are nearly parallel to your course) would push the tires to one side or the other, instead of just rolling over them. I think it has something to do with that weird side-wall tread. It seems specifically designed to shove you around instead of climbing up onto stuff.
CORNERING: OMG! One second it feels like you're doing okay, and the next, you're sliding sideways out of control. After a while I became so paranoid about cornering on these things that I had to slow way down and keep the inside foot out, just in case.
THROWN DEBRIS: These tires must be gripping something, because they sure throw a lot of crap at you and your bike. I don't know if this is a good sign or a bad sign, just an observation, really.
Overall, I think if you mostly ride in dry conditions, and maybe if you have much wider rims than I do (in order to get a flatter profile) you might do okay with these. In fact, since I already own them, I might try them again next summer. But for now I'll move on to something else.
(BTW, for you FR/DH guys, I sure like the Tioga White Tigers for the conditions around here. They stick like glue on wet rocks & roots, and work fine in mud, too.)

Bottom Line:
I bought this tire about 9 months ago and used them on about 3 or 4 rides and was ready to give it away. I had it as front tire mounted on a Mavic 317 rim. I was all over the place with it. Way out of control. Ever get a flat going down a technical section. That's what it felt like to me. So took it off and put it away. About 3 months later I put it on to a Sun Rhyno XL up front and the difference was amazing. The handling and performance of this tire was the best of any other I have ever tried. It grips in places where others would have ended up in a washout. Loose rocks, ruts, sand, no problem. Never thought a tire could make such a drastic difference, but this one does. Haven't tried as a rear tire, but definitely recommend as a front tire. But, I can only recommend if using a wider rim. The perfect set up for me I have found is the WTB Motoraptor 2.4 or Mutanoraptor 2.24 in the rear with the Weriwolf 2.5 up front.

Bottom Line:
An amazing tire. I have this on front of a fully rigid singlespeed. With that set up it's amazing how important the rubber becomes, it really showcases a good tire (or bad tire for that matter).
What I've found is that this is the best cornering tire I've ever used. My friend sayed the tread pattern looks like a serrated knife edge and he's right. Those knife edges dig into the trail and it's a really good performer.
I took it out in loose, sandy, rocky conditions and it excelled with a 2.4 Mutano on the back. It picks apart loose trail amazing well, and allows the back end to follow right around.
You can actually HEAR the tire gripping trail, it makes a tearing / roaring sound that made me chuckle because of the WeirWolf name. I actually tried to make this tire break loose and I was unsuccessful. Rutted, loose trail was absolutely ripped through.
Climbing was impressive. Very solid tracking tire.
Weaknesses I can see so far are possible short life of the tire -- the rubber is fairly soft (but that's similar to the Mutano I have in back). Also obvious crap on paved commutes to the trail, but what are you gonna do.
I highly recommend this tire, not just for rigid riding but also for full suspension. I'm putting one on my Pantera for sure.

I have had three sets of tires on this bike in the 13 months I have owned it. I curently have 2300 miles on this bike's cateye odometer. The Original Tioga tires lasted 800 miles and started flatting every week after that. The Motoraptors lasted about 500 miles and the same results. I have over 1000 miles on these wierwolf tires now and they are not even close to worn out yet. I can put 1500 miles on them no doubt! They are light for a big tire and the traction is all you could hope for. I would have liked them to be actually 2.5 but they are about the same size as the Tioga 2.3's and the motoraptor 2.4's
If they ever make these in 3.0 I will buy them in a heart beat! I was thinking about getting a new set of tires for winter but I will likely just buy another set of these they are so good!
I have not had a single flat tire in the 1000 plus miles I have ridden them now.

Bottom Line:
My bike is setup enduro (XC/Freeride cross. The fork stem was cut a little high so that you don't feel like your going over the bars. The bike came with the 2.14 WTB Mutanoraptor up front and 2.14 WTB Motoraptor in the rear. These tires are good compared to my Hutchinson Pythons but felts wobbly, like the sidewalls gave. I also got flats on both tires. Switched to the 2.5 Kevlar Weirwolf Front and 2.4 Kevlar Motoraptor race and its like a NEW bike again!
I have been riding these tires for the past 3 weeks, 2-3 rides a week and cannot believe the traction. It even adds a little suspension travel. The tires are realively like for there size and compared to full DH tires. I notice less sidewall give on these tires than the 2.14's.
These tires have improved my skill level and fright level. I can do things on these tires that would have caused me to CRASH before. I have been stuck in steep downhill ruts with loose stuff and these tires got me out. The braking is just amazing, they grab the ground and do not lockup, unless you want to go over the bars!
They better not discontinue this tire because I cannot see tires getting better than these. These tires are perfect for So. California conditions.

One of the things I like about Kevlar tires is that I can remove them quickly on the trail, and without tools. For some reason this tire is difficult to remove even when using tire tools. I can't explain why, but it seems the bead is smaller in diameter. This is probably a minor complaint for most persons, but it seems unnecessary. I like the tire overal, and recommend it.

THIS IS THE BEST TIRE ON THE MARKET HANDS DOWN!!! This is a follow up review for the one a few entries back but here's the deal. These tires will eat up anything you can trow at them. To date I have used them in Mud, Loose Dirt, Wet dirt, Sand, Pack, Wet roots or roots of ant type, Rock gardens, Wet leaves and overgrown trails. They have ruled it all no washouts, no breaking loose of any kind! I use the 2.1's and they rock nothing is any better anyone who complains about this tire is completly nuts or dosen't know how to set the tire up and the right air pressure to use. the only problem I have now is that I'm worried I'm going to burn up this tire fast because this is all I use. I sold my Mutanoraptors (Nice but these kick there a$$) and I had a set of Hutchinson Scorpions but they suck and don't hold a candle to these. The only ones I keep and are close are my Maxxis Mobster 2.0 and my High Roller 1.90. I use these for regular riding when the trails aren't nasty after foul weather. I only do this to perserve my Weirwolves because they are hard to find here. Just try em and you'll love em the setup is the tricky part just mount your front tire according to the rotation guide on the tire and then mount your rear reverse to the front. As for the air pressure just don't drop it below 35 psi and no pinch flatting will happen for me my front tire is at the minmum and my rear is at 40 and they stick like glue to the trails. They love to be leaned far into the turns so use those beautiful sidewall knobs and have fun! I lve to ride now after it rains and I don't worry anymore about traction I leave that problem to these snarling beasties PEACE!

This review is for the Weirwolf 2.1 not 2.5 they won't fit on my bikes rear tire rubs the chainstay. This is my mud tire I use my MutanoRaptor 2.24 in dry condition because they work so well here. these are like my Mutanos but for wet, loose, muddy, soil that getting traction is very difficult. These tires really hook up they have to be one of if not the best wet condition tire out there I love em. I tried using the Hutchinson Scorpion's for wet conditions like their web site says but for wet soil they are ok but they suck in mud, the Weirwolf kicks that tire's a$$ no trouble, no slidout, no clogging, and not troble shedding(it will stick a little in the side knobs but does not completly clog) I cant't even make the tire break loose unless I do something completely reckless and stupid. Using something bigger than a 2.0 for mud is a treat I like a larger tire in general for shock absorbtion and better grip and man this thing rocks. The rolling resistance is not bad for a full knobby its better than mt Mutanos which have a decent amount but they are really a full knobby (tight packed knobs with high side wall knbs but it's for dry conditions). It will throw gravel and sand in your face but who cares this is Mt. Biking not road biking and getting dirty means you had a really good day! If you like to ride in wet condition or are just sick of crappy tires telling you where and when you ride this is your tire, Get yourself a set of 2.1 for X-Country or 2.5 for all you Downhillers and Freeriders, (man those guys are sick and they have my respect). This is another great tire by WTB if your looking for a new tire chances are they have you covered check em out and try em out bet you'll love em as much as I do. My tire arsenal now only has two tires WTB Mutanoraptor 2.24 for dry and WTB Weirwolf 2.1 for nasty. Thanks WTB! not even close to a 2.5!!! Don't expect this thing to be fat. It's really more like a 2.1 or 2.2. Thinner than Geax 2.25, and close to a Specialized Enduro 2.2
Bike Setup:
Built for heavy trail use and occasional lift-served recklessness.
Bottom Line:
I ordered this online after checking it out at my LBS, where it appeared fat. It was to go on the front, with a Geax 2.25 in the rear. Well, now the Geax is on the front, and the WTB is on the rear, 'cause I like to run less pressure in the front than the rear. It actually rides better than expected in the rear - with chevron pattern facing forward, like you'd see it on the front.
WTB measures this tire by the outermost portion of knobs, not by the casing width. This is not a high-volume tire!!!
I hope to burn thru it soon so I can get a real 2.5 for the front. But in the meantime, it's riding ok in the rear.

Higher pressure eliminated the flats, but I didn't like the ride (too sketchy through the rocks). Anyway, I recommend it as a front tire only unless you're light enough that you won't pinch flat. I'm ~200lbs, and I think the thicker walled tires suit me better.

Strengths:
Good combo of weight, traction, durability (so far) and size. Makes for one of the best trail tires ever made.
Weaknesses:
Not really a true 2.5. I hope side walls are more durable then it looks (so far they are).
Similar Products Used:
Maxxis, Panaracer
Bike Setup:
Intense SLX with some stuff
Bottom Line:
Panaracer DH Fire Pros have been my tire of choice for a long time now for my all around trail bike. It offered great hook-up in all conditions, super durable, lasts forever and could go through just about anything without worries of blowing out the side walls. I tried the Weirwolfs after a recommendation from a friend and gave it a go for a few months now. Well, so far so good. Offers everything the Panaracer DH Fire Pros offers but lacks in the sidewall thickness, so therefore I do have to be conscience a bit more about sharp rocks and do a better job of steering around trouble areas on the trails. But the trade off is lighter wieght. Coming from a 900+ gram tire to a 735g (claimed wieght) tire, these things feel really light to me. I can certainly tell in the longer rides and definitely in the climbs. It a trade off that is well worth it and as long as it stays durable for me in a reasonable amount of time...these will become my new all time favorite trail tires. WTB has done a great job with these bad boys. And they look good to boot....no more red-striped sidewalls, which I really hated on the Pana's.

Bottom Line:
Recently got this tire and pretty happy. It was raining at the start of the trail, tire gripped great in the wet Japanese style slick mud, no problems on roots either. Then as the Elevation rose, started riding in the Snow and Ice. Worked great in the snow, as for the Ice, lucky I was going straight, so I don't really no how it would grip if I had to stop or turn. Had no Problems on wett rocks either. The Python was all over the place, trying to keep my rear in line. I'm pretty happy so far, no punctures yet as stated by the last guy.

Strengths:
Great tread design for hardpacked dirt, gravel, sand, and grass. Very fast rolling on smooth surfaces (way better for the commute to the trailhead than my Conti Survival Pros). DNA rubber durable and reasonably grippy on wet rocks. Big volume *should* prevent pinch flats. Good weight for size. Cheap. Looks agro.
Weaknesses:
Has a tendency to do an alarmingly good impression of the Hindenburg by blowing up spectacularly on landing. On my first two rides I was immediately impressed by the tire’s propensity to pop easier than a soap bubble. Not from pinch flats necessarily, but rather from rocks punching through the casing like it was made out of rice paper.
Similar Products Used:
Every XC tire made in the last 15 years. This is my first foray into the "freeride" tire arena. What a joke!
Bike Setup:
Turner XCE, components, blah blah
Bottom Line:
I got a casing puncture (one from a rock pinch, another from a sharp rock just violating the tire) in the tread area from sharp rocks on each of my first two rides on these tires. These were not sidewall cuts, but rather rocks punching through the running surface between the knobs. This occurred on the same trails I have ridden locally for 13 years on every XC tire under the sun without ever experiencing this phenomenon before. The WTB site says these tires will “deliver the handling, control, and durability needed for riding at the limit” and as being “tough, aggressive, untouchable.”
Uh, yeah, what a barge-load of duck droppings. These things are more fragile than most 400 gram XC tires. When you mount up meat like these, you gain confidence and pick up the speed a little. WTB would have you believe this is a reasonable behavior and the tires are up to it. Reality soon sets in as these spew their contents all over after even mundane trail encounters. Now I am afraid of further damaging their fragile constitutions and have slowed down considerably and avoid rough trails altogether. I don’t do any jumps or agro stuff, but I would at least expect these to hold up to hard XC use. Freeride by buttt. I am going to try some Nokians and put these on my girlfriend’s bike as they were apparently designed for 130 pound girls.
If I road trip to someplace with OSHA and ADA approved trails, I might try them again, but they are totally (and uniquely) inadequate for our local trails. If you have a lot of very sharp rocks in your area, think long and hard about getting these.
3 Flaming poos for value because they are cheap and might make a good commuter tire with slime tubes. 3 for overall because they might actually hold air in some areas of the country, just not here.

ebay- it didn't fit their bike! what a deal
Strengths:
awesome traction, grippy tread for cornering, braking traction is awesome,(they seem to hesitate the first couple of inches but then grab like they really don't want to go over the cliff!!)(that might be because of the soft initial damping setting of my 120mm manitou BLACK) Size fits my bike perfectly(although it seems just as big as my old GEAX 2.25) Sheds light mud well(I was covered after my last ride) great tracking on most all types of surfaces including mud. I don't know what would do better through 3-4 inches of it. There are so many good things to say about this tire. I can't wait to test them in the snow.
Weaknesses:
The only thing I can think of is that when riding through sand and small pebbles these tires pick of a lot more than tires with larger and wider spaced tread blocks. And they don't quite seem to grab the wet tree trunks that are across the trail-guess I should have gotten "el Gato" They are wearing a bit quicker than my Motoraptors.

Bottom Line:
These are the best tires I have ridden so far! They are fairly light so the uphill climb is barable, and they climb most everything else except wet trees. Fast and controllable on the tricky downhill sections. By the way, what does corner well on loose gravel?! I think this is an awesome all around tire, but I don't think they will last too long for someone riding a lot of pavement. It is one of the only tires I have seen with siping on the tread blocks and I can't wait to see if they do better than my haro's street tires on the ice

Bought this for the front and a mutano 2.24 for the rear after reading these reviews and not being as happy with my fast/light summer setup in the wetter fall weather. Did 10 miles of woody wet single track today and can tell you this is the bomb. Rolls on like a fully loaded truck - logs, rocks, roots, whatever, just steer. It will not snap you onto your next line (like my fire xc pro's do) but gets you there. And man did my arms love 'em. Better than my new TI handle bars for riding comfort. Didn't like the mutano for wet riding (see that review for more info) but this is mountain biking.

This tire is awesome. It holds a line and won't let go. If the trail is loose it holds even better. I had the motoraptor on the front and thought it was good but it drifted too much for my liking. The weirwolf digs and has very little drift. I put the moto on the back and it works great. I am confused about the wtb sizing. The moto is 2.4 but it looks bigger that the weir's claimed 2.5. With the weirwolf I am much faster and have way more confidence leaning into any corner at speed. I look for loose, rocky stuff so I can smoke my buddies who have to slow down to turn. I haven't noticed any problems on hardpack but most trails here are loose, rocky and dusty so there is very little hardpack to test the limits on. 5 chilitos all the way.

Bottom Line:
I ran this tire with the MutanoRaptor 2.4 Race in the rear. That's a fast-rolling, lightweight combination for extreme XC/Freeride epics.
Great tire when soil is soft and/or gravel is normal sized. When gravel is made of larger chunks (1" diameter and larger) or when surface is hardpack, high-speed cornering causes the side knobs to flex and the tire to wash out. The wash is predictable but annoying, because you can feel the knobs flex.
A top tire for freeriders that have long climbs and ride primarily in softer soils. For everyone else, it's a decent tire but it has its limitations. I prefer running the Gazzaloddi 2.3 DH front and rear for the typical conditions in my area.

Bottom Line:
Great f-in' tire for freeride, especially if you want to get back up hill. Much more traction than Kenda kinetics 2.6, Tioga 2.3 dh or Motoraptor 2.4s. Riding has gotten much faster with more control. Not the best tire for lots of rocks due to thin sidewall -got to keep air pressure up in these tires. Cornering is amazing with this tire. I wouldn't really consider it a 2.5 though, at the widest point it's 2.5, but it shrinks to a 2.25, I'd compare it to a 2.3 overall. Don't expect it to be some hardcore downhill tire.

I use a Panaracer Smoke Classic in the rear and its been the best combo so far. I tried the Mutano 2.4 but the little knobs just could not hold up to the speeds I was traveling and would wash out and give without notice. The Weirwolf holds no matter what situation I was riding. The light weight compared to the Motoraptor is what pushed this tire over the top when I compare the two. Try these tires if you do a lot of trail riding and you will not regret putting these babies on. For XC, look for something smaller and lighter.
