Bottom Line:
Great tire for the Shenadoah MTNs. They really are versatile in the loamy forests and gravel fire roads. I am very confident with them at stream crossings. Too bad WTB doesn't make them anymore. I had them on a set of Havoc rims, but they were too narrow, put them onto Outlaws now, much better.

Demo'd this Race Version tire already on a 06 Stinky Deelux and decided to buy a pair for my Santa Cruz. First of all, the width gives you a lil more balls to try things you wouldnt do on your cross country bike. And the tires deliver a safe landing. They corner very well and roll nicely though not as nicely as a Maxxis Highroller, Minion, etc. The kevlar version is light which pedaling up hills isnt as bad as you would think.
Weaknesses:
The sidewalls are thin (single ply) and sooner or later that may spell trouble for hucksters. However unlike a heavy dual ply, the lighter weight is heaven pedaling around on hot days. The gorilla snot soft tread spits out little rocks around on hardpack and I can image what that means on wet terra firma. Youre a dummie if you think you can ride around on the streets and not have the tread go bald quickly, this soft duro tire is only for off road.

The tire is wide. Looks like a damn motocross tire taken off a dirtbike. Made for the 7" and up freeride/dh bike. You will be the last person to finish a group ride if there are any steep climbs involved. But you will be very competitive on a DH run. The soft duro will guarantee you a few months with this tire but it will be a blast. Its lighter than a 2.7 Maxxis Mobster so the climb is much easier and the width, again is insane and builds a false confidence. Just push the envelope a little further, do go overboard, they arent parachutes.

The grip and cornering is unbelievably good in all types of 'real' forest terrain situations - wet/dry, rocky, roots, soft & peaty etc. Even better that you can safely run this tyre across a huge range of pressures dependent on the conditions. It grips the ground like a claw when landing something big/sketchy ! NO punctures in the year I've been running them - a bombproof tank of a tyre that looks cool as . . . .
Weaknesses:
You could say it's heavy - but it's designed to do a certain job properly ! And of course it's not the greatest on fast rolling sun-baked hard pack - does it look like it was designed for that!!?!?!?

This tyre inspires Freeride confidence like NOTHING else ! It was designed to do exactly that job and cannot be matched by any other tyre I've bought or ridden. Infact, this says everything - I have 3 spare pairs in the garage for this bike - I couldn't run anything else on this bike. If you are a hard gravity/freerider and do or want to go-big....this tyre will give you all the security you need. Proper kit for proper riders!!!!!!

DEMO'ED ---great traction, very wide and loved the sticky rubber for the turns. you would be a careless downhiller or trailrider if you fall off a turn using these.
Weaknesses:
though not heavy (kevlar bead) these tires roll slow pedaling up ANYTHING. Perhaps its the 2.4-3.0 tubes or I'm out of shape.

Bottom Line:
I run this tire mounted on a Sun Doublewide rear rim on my hillclimber hardtail (long live Aplinestars!). Gives fantastic traction when run at low pressures; very supple casing. Remarkably light for such a large tire. Of course it is heavier and floppier than a smaller casing tire, but if you need traction on really rough surfaces, this tire can deliver. My local trails are dry, rocky, steep, and loose, and I find this tire to be very predictable. Bottom line - I'll buy another when this one (my 2nd) is worn out.

Used "race" folding.. FANTASTIC in wet, soft dirt, sand.. But
Weaknesses:
Roll hard for a DTC single ply tire..Dry hardpack, loose rocks, not this tires strong suit.. and unless you are wearing armor, don't make ANY high speed turns..Rolls under, slides unexpectedly.. Doesn't climb all that well for a big tire (in the dry) stops OK..Tires are "vague" on single-track.. don't steer too well ..just not that good a tire..

Single ply tires, not particularly light, DTC, don't roll as easily as Nevegal DH tires, (2ply, wire) and they simply do not handle well in the dry..

i used this tire on the front and it gives UNBELIEVABLE control. rocky, rooty, slippery trails do not stand a chance. Looks wicked awesome too. i did have to buy the $10 "thorn-resistant" tube though, which was ALOT bigger and heavier. but i guess big drops and other crazy stunts demand the heavy duty stuff. I am very satisfied with this tire. I highly recomend it to everybody - novice or veteran! reccomend geting a large rim though, like a 1.5" or 2.0" to ensure the tire bead has alot of room to be seated properly.
