The Prowler SS (Slope Style) takes the square-profile, open design of the Prowler XT and doubles the central twin-knobs for unparalleled rolling efficiency. With DNA rubber compound and loads of siping, the SS boasts a healthy dose of traction along with straight-ahead speed. In hardpack conditions the SS performs incredibly well as a rear tire, paired with a Prowler MX, Prowler XT or WeirWolf LT up front.

Strengths:
Great on dry trails, which has been twice this season in New Hampshire.
Weaknesses:
Doesn't shed mud, limited traction on damp or wet rocks and roots, limited side grip on loose, loamy, wet trails.
Similar Products Used:
Kenda Nevegal (2.3), Ritchey Moto (2.5)
Bike Setup:
'08 Dakar XAM 2.0 - stock
Bottom Line:
My front tire ripped down the center after being ridden only 2 months/150 miles.
The tire is probably great for its intended use - Slope Style riding. It's not an weather, all condition tire. Great on dry, packed trails. Not good in damp, muddy, all mountain style riding.
The fact the the tire ripped down the center is pretty disappointing too.

Came on bike.
Strengths:
Fast rolling, light weight yet sturdy side wall, great traction on dry hard pack and rock.
Weaknesses:
braking is bad in all conditions, horriable in the wet, bad climbing (not what their for), scketchy cornering in loose or loose over hard pack.
Similar Products Used:
All other WTB Prowlers, Maxxis, Kenda, Bontrager, Conti, Specialized
Bike Setup:
08 Diamondback Mission 3 stock. I've since changed the tires.
Bottom Line:
This tire came on the rear and at first glance I new I wasn't going to like it. I gave it a chance any way but my fears were confirmed. The trails I ride tend to be dry and silty with loose rock inter mixed for the summer and muddy to tacky wet the rest of the year with lots of wet roots. It worked ok for a rear tire but when the climbs are a little loose a tech this tire sucks. On hard pack or firm rock it does awsome but the side knobbs just aren't aggresive enough for my style and the trails I ride. Would probably work great in So Cal or Utah.

Strengths:
Fast, fast rolling, grip on hardpack and loose on hardpack, holds a line outstanding in these conditions, size, and affordable.
Weaknesses:
Poor, poor grip on wet, completely useless in the mud, muck, mire, questionable longevity of rubber due to softer coupound 50A, would be better as dual or triple compound tire.

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
Excellent summer or drier conditioned rear tire that compliments the MX Prowler up front nicely for fast, somewhat aggro riding going up and down that's great bombing down and railing fast harpack trails and FR stuff like "skinnies", ladders, burms, etc. Excellent roll and grip, fantastic on hardpack, murder in the wet. Like it better than the XT Prowler, not as good as the MX Prowler, but haven't ran the MX on the rear so not a fair comparison.
