The superlative competition tire, the Racing Ralph was created to be the fastest cross-country and marathon racing tire around. By tailoring the tread pattern, compound and tire structure so you don’t have to worry about control when the speed ramps up. The arrangement of the specially shaped lugs combined with the different rubber mixtures to create extra grip and traction without adding resistance, making for a super fast tire.
Fast tire, good grip on drypack. But cornering doesn't give needed confidence. On the trail very hardnes (3 bar). Lowest pressure isn't for race. I've give 3 chilies - it falls in wet and mud. Sand makes it impotent )) But overall I mark it 5 for the fast rolling. Tire only for superdry terrain. NOT FOR TRAIL

This is a review for the UST version.
The RR is my first UST tire and it performed superbly in a recent 75 km race in the mountains of Argentina. I passed numerous dudes on the side of the trail pumpin' up tires and throwin' away tubes... they should have gone UST with Stan's juice inside. In the end, I had a few torns, but I never lost tire pressure.
Traction was right on during the rocky downhill section. The tires ate up the nine river crossings without skipping a beat (except when a dude in front of me decided to walk his bike through one of the crossings at the last minute -- I guess the RR tire print on his back will remind him to stay on his bike and plow through next time). The straight-a-ways were fast. And, the ascent from 400 m to 1200 m in sandy/rocky conditions weren't even an issue... other than the muscle burn.
Argentine dudes at my local, Buenos Aires bike shop love the tire, but can't get 'em.
The tires are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. It's a great XC tire, but only four chilis for me.

Bottom Line:
I have used both the 2007 Racing Ralph tread pattern in the 2.4 size and the 2008 Tread pattern in the 2.25 size with snakeskin sidewalls. Both weigh about 550 gm which is very respectable!
Great tires. Snakeskin sidewall seems very strong. Normal EVO sidewall is very supple. Got it for peace of mind riding on rocky downhills at high speeds. BTW, I never had a problem with sidewall tears on my 2.4 RRs with the standard EVO sidewalls.
The 2007 tread pattern is a little more aggressive , with larger knob size and more height. The 2008-09 tread pattern seems to roll faster but with less climbing grip. Difficult to say since the two are different size tires.
As for sizing, my 2.4 Racing Ralph's measure 57mm wide at the tread's widest point, which is a true 2.4 tire. Tire volume is excellent/large/big/high/wide.
But, the size of the 2.25 Racing Ralph was more like a 2.1 in my book. The tire measured 53mm wide at its widest point and the carcass was only 49mm wide. Tire height and volume was MUCH smaller than the 2.4 and as I said, was more like a Michelin or Specialized 2.0 tire than a true 2.25 The Racing Ralph 2.25 is definitely smaller than a WTB Exi Wolf 2.1
Overall very nice high performance XC racing tires. Fast. Great rubber compound. Very respectable grip and traction. They work great set-up as tubeless. Extremely well engineered tires. Quality control seems only fair, however.

I really really like this (2.25) as a front tyre. It doesnt grip as quite well as some tyres, but does amazingly well for its capacity to roll. Its real strength is for racing, rather than bombing difficult singletrack. By and large, I can maintain momentum better than with any other tyre I have used, and momentum is what it is all about.
Around here we have sandstone and its derivatives, and the RR handles it a treat. It handles rocky, mixed terrain well, and absolutely rails on quality singletrack. Its forgotten to rain around here for about 10 years, so I dont ride in mud and can't comment.

I wanted to lighten my bike and decided to give these a shot when the LBS did not have the NN models I was thinking of. Conti Mountain Kings were not there either yet.
I was pleasantly surprised: the low rolling resistance makes it easier to maintain momentum and there is good traction on the woodland trails I have. I just did a ride on frozen ground with a dusting of dry snow and the tyres kept doing their job there too.
Soft and loose surfaces may not be the strong point of RR but at least on loose sand they lose grip in such a predictable way that controlling the slide is easy.
Sidewalls are vulnerable against sharp rocks. The snakeskin version seems to cope better but, at least until now, has not been available in the 2.4 size. Gotta check the 2008 version, at least for rear tyres.

Bottom Line:
I bought this tire 3 years ago to use as a front to lighten my bike and pep up the acceleration, which it did admirably. The shallow tread and racey nature of the tire made me think it would wear out pretty quick, but even though now 3 years later the centre knobs are (finally) loosing their edge, I haven't noticed any problems. My regular club track has steep sleazy muddy chute with a sharp corner at the bottom through 2-3 inch deep chewed up mud... the Ralph takes this on every month and feels completely in control. High speed cornering is excellent, floats over (but somehow grips) pea sized gravel, digs into deep wet sand, doesn't clog in mud and dependable braking traction gives confidence. One thing that happens every so often: in deep dry sandy corners if entered too fast the tire seems to slide and push straight on... I think there is an angle of lean where there is just not enough tread to hook up... but just as I'm trying to pick something soft to land on, it digs in again with those larger edge blocks and the crash is avoided (which is good, but you still loose speed and flow).
I live in the city and only get out to races and trail rides a couple of times a month and I'm only using it as a front, but even so I was surprised how well the tread has lasted: I've club raced it, done numerous 4, 8 and 12 hours on it, and several hundred miles of point to point events over 3 years and it still performs brilliantly even though they are definitely showing their age. I pinched a couple of times when I first fitted them and was experimenting with psi and the side walls got pretty scraped and scratched... but now i use Stan's it's all good. This will be their last season (though I said that last year too), and I might try something else just for a change, but would just as happily use these again. I'm giving 5 chilis for the great all around performance, and 5 for value even though they cost more than most coz they have lasted me so well.

I also figured the low profile knobbies weren't going to corner well compared to the tires I'm used to.
All I can say is wow. I'm not even riding these on smooth buffed singletrack much of the time. I love riding rocky and rooty terrain. These tires grip well, roll fast, and corner beautifully. I've been riding them several days a week for months and have yet to get a flat (knock on wood). I'm cornering so well, I can finally keep up with the fast guys I ride with in the twisty stuff.

I've put a boat load of miles on these tires while only having them for 3 months or so. Zero complaints except the price, but since tires are your most important component I'm willing to spend the extra cash. All around great tire. It's great to have them offered in different sizes for different needs.
Keep in mind the tread is not overly aggressive so I wouldn't consider this an all mountain tire. Great for trail and even better for xc uses. The sidewalls are thin but so far no weaknesses. Super xc race tire.
Folks say this is not a mud tire. I find it does a respectable job in the mud. Too often tires with aggressive tread pack with much far too easily. Before you know it you are rolling a 15# chocolate donught on your bike. Thin, soupy, slick mud... heck no tire works well there. I'd soon take my chances with a fast rolling tire and skills than attempt to lug a pig tire around all day.
The tread pattern is not aggressive but the tires are very high volume. Run them at low psi and you'll get all the traction you need.

When going downhill it's quite dangerous hitting wet part of track even if it's straight, and if it happens on uphills it's just annoying when wheel is spinning for nothing. And when it goes worse and "bit wet" turnes into mud, it's pretty much useless to try anything except run next to bike.

After riding and racing on these for a full year, I can't find any redeeming qualities in them whatsoever. I know that sounds harsh, but it's the truth. The first part of the season in the southeast was somewhat wet. I quickly found out that the Ralph’s were scary on wet and muddy roots and rocks. I decided to let that go, it's not the type of conditions the tire was designed for. Later in the spring when things finally dried up, I found that the handling did not really improve much. They stick fairly well on hard pack but, when you reach their limit They break loose with almost no warning. That's one bad habit that I really hate. I've raced on Pythons for two seasons and I guess I've become spoiled by the amount of feedback I get from them. I almost always know just how hard I can push them in a turn. I've also had major pinch flat problems with the Ralph’s. I'm a light weight, under 150, hell usually under 140 And until this year I have pinch flatted maybe twice. I've worn tires out and reused the tube. I have flatted at least 10 times this year. I have to run the Ralph’s at 40 to 45 psi so I won't flat. That certainly doesn't do anything to improve their handling. I'm not sure who should by these tires, maybe someone like me Who was foolish enough to believe the hype? My advice would be save $110.00 and buy something that works.

2.1 good volume for cushioning and flowing over stuff. grips more than you would believe! feels quite supple. low rolling resistance.

Bottom Line:
i feel that nothing beats the grip of panaracer cinder tyres but the 2.25 and 2.1 are too heavy for racing and the 1.95 are too narrow and harsh so i wanted a big volume (2-2.1) tyre for racing in order to flow over stuff and have low rolling resistance and the racing ralphs do just that...the knobs are not big at all but give much more grip than what you think they would....perhaps the knob design layout is responsible for such grip! i would not hesitate to recommend these tyres

I thought this was going to be the "end all" of tires. I personally like to ride on 2.25 inch tires and been a faithfull fan of Intense System 4's the past year 1/2 or so.
Then I heard about Schwalbe Racing Ralp with a 2.25 inch tire that is 300grams per tire lighter then my current Intense system 4's. 2.25inch tires that weigh less then most 2.1 inch tires!! How can this be?? I figured flimsy sidewalls but all the reviews were better then decent.
Bike stores dont usually stock them. They are special orders and usually they are back ordered at that. They are in the high end cost range with a name you cant pronounce until you say it a hundred times. Im thinking these must be the greatest invention since carbon fiber.
I get my hands on a pair after 2 weeks of waiting. Wrap the tires around my rims and was truly disappointed. Shame on you Schwalbe. They are nothing more then 2.1 at best. I have two sets of these and there are no mistakes all 4 tires are 2.1 inch
How do they handle... well just as good as any other 2.1 inch tire on the market. If you need white lettering buy Specialized. Sorry Schwalbe but you get the one chili for lying to the american public. Keep your tires in Germany we dont appreciate, need or want your buisness.

MY new Schwalbe Racing Ralph had a catastrophic failure today. I was 10.3 miles into a 17 mile-3500 ft ascent ride, when the rear tire delaminated. It was disfigured so badly, it wouldn't even roll through my seat stays! The tube was completely exposed and herniating. Needless to say, I did a lot of walking this evening. I like the tire, it's light and fast, and grips adequately for such a low rolling resistance. Unfortunately, I like to ride not HIKE!

This review is for the widest option (2.40).
Low rolling resistance. Grips well on dry and hard-packed soil. Offers slight "suspension" due to massive volume. Looks.
Weaknesses:
Using adequate pressures works flawlessly in smooth terrain; with very low pressures may show fragility and unstability due to skinny sidewalls.
Similar Products Used:
Nothing quite like these.
Bike Setup:
Cannondale 1fg single speed w/ minor updates
Bottom Line:
Low in weight and rolling resistance, high in volume. A true performer in dry conditions. Not for loose or slippy surfaces (though the widest version does reasonably well in loose sand and gravel).
Riding a fully rigid single speed, I appreciate the suspection effect the high volume tires offer. Even though the 2.4 inches sounds and appears like a lot of width for long-distance xc/marathon flavoured rides, IMHO it's really a pick for those w/o suspended forks.
I have no prior experience of high volume tires nor tires this high in quality, so I don't dare to rate Ralphs as outstanding. Great they are though.

Bottom Line:
This is a race only tyre-even more so than other race-only tyres IMO. It wears fast, and I slashed the sidewall on a rocky trail. The sidewalls are pretty standard for this kind of tyre, but the wear is exceptional.
However, as far as race tyres go, this is one of the best. They roll faster than anything else I've tried (apparantly Nokian NBX lite is faster), and still manage to grip. Pretty expensive, though.

I am amazed that a tire this fast has such great traction. They roll like a slick but really hook up on everything except mud, which they are not designed for. I used the 2.1's for racing last year and I am very pleased with their performance. I race in very rocky conditions and have not had a flat with these tires as of yet. I converted them to tubeless with Stan's and they are awesome. They corner like you are on a rail. They are by far the best racing tire I have used to date. You will not be regret buying them.

Bottom Line:
This review is for the 2,25 size tire: After 2 races and about 200 miles on diverse trails I can say with confidence that these tires are a true pleasure. With their high volume and soft compound surface they grip exceptionally well on most surfaces. dont expect to grip onto wet roots or rocks very well...truth is, its rarely possible with any tire. For hardpack, loose over hardpack, wet trails....anything short of a mud bog, these tires are fantastic. I did race them in the mud and regretted not using a more suitable tire. That being said they do shed mud rather well given their widely spaced and flat knobs. Rolling resistance is almost like a slick. Im not sure how they did it but it is something to behold. The side knobs are textured for your pleasure and when the bike gets leaned on, they dont let down. The casing is round so cornering is predictable and secure. This tire also looks great. Its fluffy and round with awesome early 70's muscle car graphics. Looks great to other racers when you are passing them. My one gripe is that the size is less than 2.25. I measured it to be 2.1. The height is higher though than a 2.1 tire..giving it a very cushy feel. All in all its one of the greats. enjoy

If you are looking for a replacement for your hutch python air lites, this is it. The RR's are a lite weight racing tire that is very comfortable, corners well, has low resistance and high volume. I have yet to flat on these this year. I like the RR in the back and the Big Jim up front, 2.25 all around. The RR is more durable and corners better than the python lites.

Fat with lotsa air volume (2.25), very light (510 grams), very sticky multicompound, break & climb well -- prime rocky, hard pack & slick rock tires. (The conditions I based my rating on --YMMV) Good shock absorbing qualities.
Weaknesses:
Probably not for very loose, loamy or muddy conditions. If you think you need tall knobs, these tires probably aren't for you. (People who buy tires with shallow/intermediate knobs shouldn't complain if they don't work in a rain forest) Float ok in sand, but not great there directionally. Knobs extend well down side of tire, but not sure how they'd hook up at high cornering speed in loose conditions The 2.25s roll/change direction very well for their size, but I would pick the 2.1 version for XC racing unless it's a very rocky course.
Similar Products Used:
Geax Sedona, Hutchinson Python AirLites
Bike Setup:
Fisher Sugar 2 with a San Marco Titanio 200 saddle (the best XC saddle ever -- get one at Excel)
Bottom Line:
I was looking for a set of light, good rolling, fat, sticky tires for riding on hard/rocky, mostly dry terrain that wouldn't turn my Sugar 2 into a boat anchor or overpower the XC tuned suspension with too much unsprung weight. The 2.25 version of the Racing Ralph has exceeded my expectations. They postage scale at only 510 grams(!!), yet they are honest 2.25 tires. (The rear tire has just enough clearance on my Sugar 2 -- not enough for real mud though.) The multicompound tread is very sticky. The first time I grabbed a handful on a steep switchback, I almost went over the bars (remedied by a quick readjustment). They climb very well -- the sticky compound. large foot print & air volume help make up for relatively shallow knobs. Perhaps the best thing I can say about these tires is that when I got in too fast on one of our rocky local single tracks (lower Rabbit Mountain) and had to let go of the brakes, fly, & pray, the big Ralphs tracked right through a section I normally wouldn't have sanely ridden at anything close to that speed, including some pretty nasty edges, without cutting or blowing. (I weigh 200 lbs & was running them at a conservative 40 psi -- recommended inflation goes down to 30 psi for you light weights .) Finally, the white lettering on those fat tires give them a kinda mean, retro muscle car look!
