Strengths:    Starting on asphalt, loam.

Weaknesses:    SAND!!! Turning, rocks, sidewall protection.

Bottom Line:
My first ride on these was in mild sand. I could not make a turn. On flat turns they wash out. On banked turns they drift. I thought it would be better on more loamy dirt trails. On absolute hero dirt, these tires will not grip as well as Specialized proprietary tires or my old Panaracer Dart and Smoke. Rough rock performance is average. Smooth rock is like grease.

I thought since the front and rear are balanced in how poorly they grip, I thought I could learn to drift them. I have had several slow motion falls as the front tire looses grip in slow to kid speed turns. I have lost all confidence in what is an otherwise amazing bike (Trance 1).

Oh, when I tried to go tubeless, I found two holes in the sidewall of a brand new tire! (Under 50 miles in 3 test rides). Anyone want to buy a slightly used set of Schwalbes?

27.5 Nobby Nic (2.35) or Trail King (2.2) for rear tire?

I've seen the listed weights show a 2.2 Trail King a little heavier than the 2.35 Evo Pacestar Nobby Nic. In my experience with a 26" Trail King (protection version, black chili compound) the grip is better with the Trail King. Any experience/thoughts on the comparative rolling resistance/overall ... Is 29 x 2.4 Nobby Nic large circumference a soul crusher?

I am really liking this tire on back, but it wears a bit fast and SEEMS slow. It is taller than my Geax Gato 2.3, and I am wondering why I feel like I am slower pedaling with this tire? Anyone think the larger circumference is like a higher gear? Or just slow roller with tread blocks? Thanks.Read More »

Ikon 2.35 vs. Nobby Nic 2.25 vs. RaRa 2.35

I like a grippy front tire and I admittedly over tire on race day on the front end of my bike. I'm working my way down to faster and lighter, but still like some beef up there. I'm deciding between tires: Currently have: Nobby Nic 2.25 Evo/Snakeskin Model (690 grams) - It's nice. No real compla ... Read More »
