$20.00 | | Purchased At: | Performance (where e | | Strengths: | Lightweight, cheap (Performance frequently sells them for less than the $20 I paid), fast enough for pavement, knobby enough for some dirt (but not mud), high 120 TPI, cheaper than buying a road bike | | Weaknesses: | Way too prone to flats, a little narrow, typical semi-slick traction issues | | Similar Products Used: | Michelin semi-slicks | | Bike Setup: | hardtail | | Bottom Line: | I bought these as a way to ride on the road (well, on paved trails) in the fall and winter, and they perform perfectly for that, with still enough tread to ride somewhat off road as well. They are a lightweight, efficient ride on urban/suburban surfaces, especially compared to many "fast rolling" knobbies. In dirt and mud, they predictably, and constantly, fishtail and slide like all semi-slicks; but don't ask for mud performance from what is at best a hard surface tire and you should be fine.
They do tend to flat quite easily, I suspect because they are relatively thin, and so your tubes are that much closer to whatever you roll over. Also, the 1.9" width is a little too narrow for my tastes, considering there are 2.1" SSs out there, and combined with pressures in the high 40s, they can really cut and sink into soft surfaces easily. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
