These tires so far have been da'bomb. I don't slide around like i used to w/my old tires, i did not realize the difference it was going to make. i rode this past weekend @ Alafia River State Park(my local trail) and i was riding over roots and trails that i used to slide on which would cause me to come out of my clips quite a bit. now w/these tires i was not sliding, i was able to ride over most everything w/ease because i could stay clipped on and just go. you would have thought i was on a brand new bike that just cost me $4000+, but instead it was my same ole bike but w/brand new Panaracer DH tires. I know people talk about the extra weight being a factor, but i did not notice a difference at all w/the extra weight.

Strengths:
Godly on hard pack. Very easy to regain control if your tires slip. Also seems to shed mud real well.
Weaknesses:
none, I see all this about weighing too much, if you cant deal with an extra pound or two, you need to quit mountain biking and take up cycling.
Bike Setup:
trek fuel 80 03'
Bottom Line:
I'm very happy with these tires, beats the hell outta my stock ones. On hardpack they are insane, slips on sand (what doesnt?), not the greatest on wet grass (found out the hard way and scored a broken wrist and finger) But the bottom line is these tires are the sh*t, handle extremely well on dirt/rock. I've gone threw quite a bit of mud and the moment you hit dry dirt the mud sheds off right away.
Corners really well, fast and durable in almost all terrains...seemed pretty good on street. digs in where it needs to and has a low profile, re: tread. Alot like the Fire Xc's but MORE BEEF!
Weaknesses:
That it's not lighter, doesn't come in 3.5. All in all IT MOST DEFINITLY A GOOD TIRE.

Great tires for the money and are way better than most of the more expensive tires as well. These tires hookup at high pressure better than most tires at low pressure. You can't beat this tread design. I've used them on loose dirt/sand, hardpack, wet logs, wet clay, and snow. They haven't let me down yet. You won't find a better tread design for freeride. Sweet.

Everything aside but the way the tire handles on the trail: This tire sticks to the ground where you need it, when you need it. Just pick a line and the tire follows, no questions asked. Climbs and corners in everything. Loose, hard pack, you name it this tire does it.
At 990g (at least thats what QBP lists them at) they're a little heavier than what im used to. This is definately felt on climbs where a 600g tire would get me up with ease. But that same tire would slip all over the place on the way down. This is not an XC racer's tire, nor is it an extreme DH tire. It just somehow manages to do everything inbetween.

I rode these on a rental bike in Mammoth and thought they were almost complete garbage. In loose conditions they couldn't hold a line at all and they brake poorly. Drifting is a little sketchy but manageable and they do have very good side walls. The weight was nice too. They might do better in the more hard packed terrain of Bass Lake where I usually ride but my experience in mammoth, which I consider my ultimate testing ground, has made me shy away from these. I have never been impressed with panaracer tires and these are no different. The also seem to wear fast. Trying different tire pressure didn't help at all and I ran them at everything from rock hard to 20 psi and they still couldn't cut it.

If you are one those riders who is concerned about wieght, what the hell you even considering a product that contain the letters DH! For folks like you, there are products clearly stated with the letters XC, probably in lower case letters to save that extra quarter of a gram for the paint. Anyways, back the to tires. Yeah, these are good. I've tried pretty much everything under the sun, and consider these a great practice/rec/trail downhill tire. But for serious racing or downhill at high speeds (over 40mph), I would go with something more beef and more solid. Other then that, can't beat these for the price vs. performance. Solid buy for anyone who actually knows how to ride and not complain about wieght.

This is a follow-up to the one I did earlier. I took the tire up this weekend and it is awesome. I have never had so much traction before. I am still getting used to the new limits. There is a large switchback on the trail, and with my fire xc's, I could only enter at 20 mph and exit at 17mph, all the while the tires are sketchy and drifting. With the dh pro's, I can enter at 25 mph and exit at 21mph with stability. I can cut accross ruts through corners w/o a problem. When the tire does begin to drift, it is very stable and predictable. The only problem is the extra weight, which is definitely noticeable, but for the extra control and fun, the weight penalty is nothing.

Heavy, but I think it's worth it. It took a lot of effort to fit the tube properly onto my narrow rims because the tire's stiff sidewall prevented the bead to fold down into my rims. I rode it around a bit, and the weight is definitely noticeable compared to the fire xc's; accel is slower and so is braking, but I think I can make that up in downhill speed. Plus, the extra fun factor is what I'm looking for. So far, fairly impressed.

So, as evolution of the mountain bike tire goes, I trusted that the Fire DH 2.3's would live uo to my expectations...I was not disappointed. These tires may not be exactly perfect for serious DH riders, however, if your the type of rider who just loves to ride ( FREERIDER ) anytime/anywhere, can't be bothered by those among us who suffer from low self esteem & always believe that their oppinion is the word of some higher being, and is looking for a relatively wide all around performer, than ignor the petty weight penalty and buy a set of Fire DH Pro 2.3's. Cool looking Super strong Tracks like a moose I ran it at 25 psi
Weaknesses:
Heavy Heavy and a bit heavy But only if your a weight freak, i peronally just loose a pound off my stomach to ride these babies.
The bomb(proof). This thing is incredible, as for the weight, dude, go work out some and loose more weight like that, Tracks like nothing else i know short of a full blown 3 inch tires (which are a pain in the posterior to use). I can go just a bit faster with these. I rode over a bunch of stuff even cactus and not even a scratch. If you freeride get these. I ran it at 25 psi for one day just to see what woukd happen, i cornered like a jackrabbit, and accelarate like a cow. Don't try it unless your lightweight.

This tire is amazing. Stiff sidewalls, can run at low psi, unbelieveable traction on steep downhills and when you are heavy on the breaks. Decreases stopping distance at high speeds.
Weaknesses:
A bit heavy, however, it is only a couple ounces....barely noticable.

This tires great if your into freeriding or downhill. Los Angeles terrain is very dry and dusty for most of the year so you need a tire that has a lot of traction but something that will roll nicely. Off-campers tend to scare me after a nice accident on Will Rodgers a year ago. I can now say that I have the confidence to go at them again and with speed because I find this tire to be so predictable. If your looking to break records going uphill get the xc 2.1.

Similar Products Used:

These tires rock. With the larger contact patch on the front wheel, it makes for more traction through the corners. Front end no longer digs into sandy areas. Tire just floats over sand and loose dirt. the rubber on the knobbies is quite thick so you can ride over just aout anything without worry of getting a flat. They have low rolling resistance, at least low compared to other 2.3 and larger tires.
On the downside, these things are kind of heavy. Can definately feel the difference between the Fire XC Pro and the Fire DH Pro. I have disc brakes so getting them on the fork is no problem. However if you are using V-Brakes, it will be really tight. The casing in thick and heavy so mounting them on the rim is a real chore.
Go out and buy them. Definately worth it.

Excellent mud clearance, awesome traction on grassy/dirt slopes, no flats yet even at low pressures, durable tread.
Weaknesses:
Construction--They are falling apart. They special poly belt is separating from the rest of the tire on both the front and rear. There is a crack all the way along the edge of the belt that looks like dry rot. I seriously doubt it is dry rot however, since the tires are only a month old and I don't store my bike outside in the sun and rain.

These tires perform well in almost any conditions except very wet stuff where pretty much all tires slide around. The treads are wearing very slow. I ride these tires at ski resorts, urban assault, and yes, even XC. They work well but I'm afraid they are going to disintegrate in the near future. I am giving them a poor rating because products that cost as much as these tires should not fall apart. I have e-mailed Panaracer and am waiting to hear whether or not they will replace them. If they do I hope the new ones don't fall apart as well. I'll submit another review when I hear back from Panaracer to let you know how their customer service stacks up.

I was looking for a bigger tire to run up front, something wider than a 2.1. I tried the Pani Pyro 2.25, which is a sweet cushy tire, but its more like a 2.0. Anyways my LBS was running a special on the DH Pro ($34.99) so I gave it a try. I have been stoked on my Fire XCs for a while and the DH Pro has all the advantages of the XC with the plus of being a fat tire. This tire does it all. I do alot of urban assault as well as trail riding and this baby hasn't let me down once. With the DH upfront and the XC in the rear I'm stylin'...go get some DHs!!!

2.3 inches wide, sheds mud easily, grips hard into corners. The width helps plow through that deep east coast mud(I run the FireDH pro on the front, with a FireXC pro in the rear).
Weaknesses:
At 1050g, its not the lightest tire out there, but if it performs well, than who cares about weight.
Bike Setup:
98 Fisher Big Sur, 9 speed XT drivetrain, Azonic risers, Titec Stem, SDG Bel Air saddle, Panaracer FireDH front, FireXC pro rear
Bottom Line:
This tire rips. When I purchased my bike about a year ago I put a set of wildgripper comps on, and I just wasn't getting the traction that i needed. They were light, but I decided to swap those out for something more burly-the DH pro on the front, and I put an XC pro in the rear, to help a little with rotational weight. That tire is great, too. With this tire I feel more confident in high speed turns. It works well in mud. I can plow an easy line through a mud hole, and the 2.3" width makes a path for my 2.1" rear XC to follow right through. So if you're a cross-country/trail rider and you're concerned about weight, this may not be the tire for you. But if you want to rip and leave your buddies in the dust then give it a shot.

They guy who said that they didn't grip on wet surfaces must be confused cos I have had a lot of success with these tyres on wet surface including rock.
No pinchflats yet.
Climbs and brakes well on all surfaces.
Look great.
Nice deep tread for mud etc.
The also fit the GT LTS by mere mm (no probs with mud jamming up the rear tyre / frame yet.)
I bought them for HKD200 each (about USD26) at this price they are GRET value for money.
As for being too heavy, the performance benefits far outweigh the weight. I didn't notice the extra weight at all.

Going up and coming down are much more fun with these tires. They break great and grip just as well. They are a little heavy though, but what would you expect from a DH tire. stiff and anti-pinch flat sidewalls. excellent traction in dirt and on dry rock. hard rubber means tread has long life
Weaknesses:

Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
1999 Heckler with Z 1 fork
Bottom Line:
This is a great tire for it's inteded purpose: hard packed dirt courses that are dry. It works great when it can dig in, or on rock surfaces. However, it will slide off of smooth DRY roots, and anything that is wet, making for difficult control in technical sections. If you life where it doesn't rain much, then deffinately consider this tire. If you life in an area that is often wet, then consider the IRC kujo/el gato, or the Intense (these will also wear faster, since they are softer rubber). I am switching back to a Kujo/ El Gato combination, because these tires are just too unpredictable in our frequently wet situations. However, if I lived in south western California or somewhere like that, then I would have to give them thumbs up. I would also say that there pinch flat resistance is not quite as good as the IRC tires, but the Panaracer has slightly stiffer sidewalls (not as stiff as the Intense however), and can be run at very low pressures (i.e. 15 Psi is no problem for me - a 195 lbs guy).I give these a rating of 3 chillies because they would get 5 chillies on fast dry courses, and 1 chillie on wet slimely courses.
