Date Reviewed: March 27, 2007
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:Extremely open tread pattern, beveled knobs for strength, pretty light, Nokian tire...say no more.
Weaknesses:Small-sized knobs will most likely tear and wear pretty fast.
Similar Products Used:IRC Serac XC, IRC Mythos...these are the most similar out of dozens of different makes and models of tires I've used.
Bike Setup:Custom Ted Wojcik...
Bottom Line:I must add this first...this review is for the 'cheaper', OEM (2.2) version of the NBX. It's knobs are smaller than the NBX, and is a touch heavier. This tire is FAST! It seems to perform awesomely in looser terrain, holding corners VERY well at speed. I forsee wear issues due to the small knobs, but that will be a nominal cost for the performance it offers. Very fast-rolling, lightweight tire gets you to the trailhead with minimal effort, while on-trail performance is not affected. Not the fastest tire I've used...but THE BEST, fastest tire I've used. Usage is minimal at this point, but it appears as though it will do very well in the muck also. I have very little negative to say, and will not tarnish the NBX line with pettiness. Gotta give a full pull rating here!

Favorite Trail:Treefarm
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Corners well, Grips well, holds up good even on street hazards. Seems a good All-rounder tire.
Weaknesses:Doesn't seem particularly geared towards any field. Not necessarily a bad thing, but if you're only going to do one kind of riding you might be better off getting a more specific tire.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Enduro Tires
Bike Setup:2006 Diamondback Axis, Avid BB5 Disc Brakes, Novatech Disc/Alex XT16 Front Wheel, Deore XT Disc/Alex XT16 Rear wheel, Nokian NBX 2.1 Tires
Bottom Line:These tires are great all rounders. They don't seem to favor any sort of riding style necessarily, but do a great job on the trail or even in city riding conditions. I've taken sharp corners at relatively high speeds and they do a good job keeping a grip on the surface.

Date Reviewed: October 28, 2005
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $18.00
Purchased At:QBP
Strengths:Sticky, fast, supple, big volume for weight.
Weaknesses:works best at really low pressures. Supersoft sidewalls + low pressure = pinch flats.
Similar Products Used:Michelan Lite S, Panaracer trailblaster, etc
Bike Setup:hardtail
Bottom Line:Great tires! Confident, fast, turn like nothin else. When they're not flat that is. I run them @ around 35 psi, which is a little low, i know, but thats where these tires perform best at. Might work better on an FS, where you don't get the same sharp impacts as a hardtail. My favorite tires, flats kept them from a 5.

Favorite Trail:North Shores finest
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:Cove Bike Shop
Strengths:Carbon Silica in the tire makes for great wet weather hookup
Weaknesses:Using the wire bead tire so its a little heavier
Similar Products Used:IRC Mibro
Bike Setup:Titanium Hei Hei, Marzocchi Marathon s fork, Ti bb, Ti seatpost, Ti flite saddle, Next LP crank, XTR drive line.
Bottom Line:Good tire for the cash. I Swear by Michelin comp 16's for the shore as they lave a carbon silica content too. Wet or dry these tires always track across off camber roots and baby head rocks.I find the hook up as well as the Michelins but in a cross crountry application. Probably an underrated tire, but I am always amazed as to how well they work. Gotta run at least 40psi in the rear for guys 180lbs and up.

They are rated at a 60A durometer, so they travel well across pavement and roll pretty fast at higher psi. Wear is pretty consistant for a tire this hard. Replaced after 60% wear. I like fresh tires.

Favorite Trail:Station Flats
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:Cyclepath
Strengths:Generally a good all around tire, not really exceptional in any one area, but a good all-arounder. Its a bit heavy for pure XC, I think next time I'll try the 2.0 Lites. I've done some pretty agressive XC and these tires have held up quite well, and I've yet to get a flat since swapping to them more than a year ago.
Weaknesses:Mud,this tire picks up mud like nothing I've ever seen. It sheds it pretty quickly, but on a couple of occasions in some really muddy conditions I've found my self almost grinding to a hault because I picked up so much mud.
Similar Products Used:My last tires were Hutch. Pythons, I'd say in over all quality they're equal, but have different strengths.
Bike Setup:Giant NRS
Bottom Line:I'm sure there's a better all purpose XC tire out there, I'm still searching, but until then, I wouldn't consider these Nokian's a bad buy at all, you could definately do alot worse.

Submitted by Mista D a Weekend Warrior from Brussels Belgium
Date Reviewed: August 12, 2004
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:35
Strengths:Rolls fairly well, good grip on hard soils (kind you get in the sourthern alps
Seem resistant to pinch flats
Corners well, brakes well, ...
Weaknesses:Not that great in Mud
Not that great on loose gravel (but thenb again nevevr had a tire that was)
Seems weak against thorns (trust me they've got some sick torned bushes in south of France)
Thin (small air volume)
They wear out really fast (but that's probably coz of th 10 miles tarmac I have to do to go and get back to the trail (4 to 5 times a week)
Similar Products Used:Non that actually compares
Bike Setup:Chameleon, Z1 DO 1, gazza front NBX rear,....
Bottom Line:Good all round tire
I' had to order this tire without seeing it. I had my gazza before and it seemed kind of bigger than other rated at the same size so I thaught it would be the same with the NBX.....nope....i'ts actually kind of small....

I'm sure gonna give a try with the 2.3

Over all these are great tires just a little too narrow in 2.1 (maybe good for pure XC)
