Submitted by Jesse VOZA a Racer from St-Martin, Caribbean
Date Reviewed: January 1, 2006
Favorite Trail:Procupine rim in moab
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:TRISPORT St-Maarten
Strengths:+ Strong
+ Smooth
+ Secure
+ Lever away from wheel axle
Weaknesses:- Heavy
- You can't spin the lever because of the offset to take off the front wheel
Similar Products Used:Almost all of them
Bike Setup:Everything but with shimano QR
Bottom Line:The shimanos are the only one with that kind of arm to lock the wheels. I guess they have the patent and it is the system that is working the best.

If you want them, find the 2000-2002 versions they are not laser etched but cut through ! They are marvelous and rare. The 2003-2005 are heavier and not as high-end.

Date Reviewed: July 26, 2002
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $60.00
Purchased At:Rösch
Strengths:Longterm Strength, clamp force
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:tune ti, control tech ti, salsa cromo
Bike Setup:DeKerff Generation 96
Bottom Line:They are very strong, clamp force is extra high; and they keep functioning. Slightly less strong: the cromoly Salsa ones; these look nicer. Don't use titan skewers. The clamp force of those is not sufficient. The skewers is the one part of your bike where weight reduction is NOT indicated.

Date Reviewed: September 11, 2001
Favorite Trail:Gooseberry Mesa, UT
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:came on Santa Cruz Superlight
Bottom Line:This is a review of the XT skewer, recorded here as there is no category for the XT skewer as yet.

The Shimano XT skewer is sadly deficient.

First, the nut is hard to turn. I almost need pliers to loosen my skewers, even after lubing.

Second, the lever side of the skewer cannot rotate a complete revolution on my 2000 Marzoochi x-fly fork. The lever hangs up on the drop-out.

I replaced these skewers with old (admittedly expensive, ti) skewers from another bike which rotate just fine on the x-fly fork, and are much lighter also.

Shimano, you can do better! The XT skewer only merits one chili, but I don't want to throw off the tally for the XTR skewers so I'm putting down a five chili rating.

Submitted by Jay a Cross Country Rider from Waco, TX, USA
Date Reviewed: August 8, 2001
Favorite Trail:Cameron Park in Waco, TX
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:Came with XTR hubs
Strengths:Stay in place well, very easy to open
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Specialized skewers
Bike Setup:2001 Specialized Stuntjumper M4, 2001 Judy SL fork, XTR mega 9 drive train, King headset, Mavic 517 rims, XTR hubs
Bottom Line:Although not an important part of the riding experience, these skewers surprised me with the ease it takes to open and close the skewer. Definitely grease them before use, it makes it much easier =) Happy trails!

Favorite Trail:abertillery
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:BEST ACTION PERIOD, PROBABILY THE STRONGEST!
Weaknesses:heavier than others... thats it!
Similar Products Used:control tech, odyssey, xt
Bike Setup:fat chance titanium, wbsc72ul, king, xtr
Bottom Line:compared to all other quick releases, these do actually quick releases compared to the majority of slow releases on the market that require a twist or are just a pain to use due to the un ergonomic shape! these will also waaay outlast any of the other lite weight wannabes
iff you're not concerned with the weight then get these, almost a fit and forget mentality that is chris king!
