Strengths: They're very pretty and they initially give you a sense that you are making things a bit easier.Weaknesses: Very poor clamping force. When clamping down in a way that doesn't require the Incredible Hulk to undo, they would not hold my rear wheel in the track ends. On downhills, the rear brake rips the wheel and moved it backwards.
I tried clamping "as hard as I can" presumably this worked but getting the thing off was outrageously difficult.Bottom Line: I bought these skewers to make clamping the wheels in place easier, not harder. It had the reverse of the desired effect. On returning the XT skewers to service, I found clamping the wheel into place MUCH, MUCH easier.
These are only for MTBs for vertical drops in the rear only. And actually, probably only for horizontal dropped forks and forks with "lawyer lips" intact and in place.
They're going on my Cyclocross bike where the braking action won't result in the forces that tend to yank the wheel out of the dropouts.
They are pretty though.
