Strengths: i used to run sun rhynos cause im heavy on my rims since using the black eyes i have not buckled a rim. they apear to be every bit as strong as the rhynos.Weaknesses: they are a really hard to change tyres, especially out on the trail with plastic levers. so far i have been thru six plastic levers, so now i carry my steel levers everywhere i ride.Bottom Line: i found no fault with the black eyes other than their difficult tyre changes. they perform quite well , concidering the pounding they get.. still i do not think they would be good for tubeless tyres but never tried them on these rims..
Favorite Trail: blue gums in eagle park s.a.
Price Paid:
$1200.00
Purchased At: south coast cycles c
Similar Products Used: sun rhynos and rhyno lites are similar to the black eyes but are easier to change tyres..
Bike Setup: i ride a norco bigfoot ( its a north shore hard tail ) i like my bike to be strong and reliable . im using 2.3 / 2.4 tyres and have no problems chasing duallys down hill ..

Strengths: Tough; lighter than the cheap stock wheels I hadWeaknesses: REALLY hard to mount and dismount tires; very hard on tire beadsBottom Line: These rims will stay trued pretty well, but they irritate the crap outta me. It is VERY DIFFICULT to mount and dismount tires. The tires are some Kenda XC tires I had on some stock Giant rims. On the old rims I didn't even need a tire tool. On the Black Eyes I have to use metal ones. The plastic ones break. I've gotten to where I can do a partial dismount for a tube change with plastic tools but it still takes a metal one to get the tire back on. Mounting and dismounting is really hard on the tire and after a few flat repairs now my steel beads are starting to become exposed on the tire. Every time I break it down I'm left with little pieces of rubber on the ground that came off in the process of getting the tire back over the rim. The guys at the LBS where I bought the rims said this is just the way the rims are. I'd stay away unless you just want a challenge in your roadside flat repairs. Otherwise they're fine.

Strengths: Strong. Good looking. Have used w up to 2.5" (Kenda Blue Groove Stick-E) tire.Weaknesses: Deep and narrow makes changing tires even more of a chore than usual. In fact it can be pretty hard work and you have to watch out not to break you tire levers. Take extra care not to pinch your tube too. Nothing worse than trying to fix a puncture and making two more!..Bottom Line: Nice rims. Came w crappy hubs and so have temporarily become commuter rims, but that's not due to any issue with the rims. The rims have held up to 65kmh poundings down rocky trails with a 190+lb (loaded) rider. Solid. The hubs didn't do so well. Would buy rims again. Will def build a new wheelset when the crappy Shimano 475 hubs that came with these completely die (soon). They do need truing from time to time, but that's life. More down to spokes losing tension than any issue with the rims.

Strengths: These wheels are pretty tough. I've taken them to Downieville twice and Northstar for a full day of hardcore downhill and freeride. No problems with spokes breaking or popping loose.Weaknesses: The rim is extremely narrow for an all-mountain wheelset. It is pretty hard to mount tires that are larger that 2.2 in width.Bottom Line: these wheels are pretty tough and reliable, there are a few drawbacks such as having such a narrow rim and the wheels being pretty heavy for an all mountain wheel set. Still good value for the price!!

Strengths: LooksWeaknesses: After 1000 mile they wont stay true, and i have broken 3 spokes in just 1 week. These were awsome up until i hit around 900 miles.Bottom Line: After my last review these things started to fall apart,The shop cant seem to fix them so i purchased new wheels.900 mile seems to be the life span of the Black Eys wheelset. But they were good while they lasted.

Strengths: Strong,no buckles(yet), Have taken some large hits/crashes.
Weaknesses: Except for a bit of weld slag coming free recently internally and causing the valve stem to tear. took a while for me to work out the problemo.3 tubes worth.
But gave them a file out round the stem..and all good.Bottom Line: These fellas came stock with the bike.
Great single track/all mountain rim.BULLET-PROOF.
I like my tracks technical.
I'm not a DHer of full on Free rider yet but have taken these rims and bike on some LUMPY tracks.
Tough enough,except I don't do 20ft jumps yet.Consider that!
Ps. check your spokes from time to time.

Strengths: strong, easy to true, look cool in blackWeaknesses: hard to get tyres on emBottom Line: Bottom line is i got these wheels second hand and they have taken some fairly hard riding and not yet come out of true. When i got the wheels in the post off ebay i got them home, took them out the box and then all of a sudden "ping" one spoke breaks....."ping" another one goes. Hmmmm i think.... dodgy. well i replaced the spokes, trued the rim and tightened all spokes on both wheels and they are damn solid wheels i tell ya. Theyre not designed for really hardcore sh*t but hard xc and a bit of freeride here and there should be fine. Dont think you can buy these now but if you can get buy em. 4 flamin' chillies!

Strengths: Seems to be fairly beefy, performs like it should. Good value for money.Weaknesses: Its probably slightly heavy for racing.Bottom Line: Good performer, no complaints so far. I have owned other products from this company and they seems to be a good value. Not sure if a racer should use it, but it would be great for most all mountain/ xc riders.
