New ZTR Arch EX 29, cant get tire on.

This sound stupid. I am fairly proficient getting tires on a rim. Got my new wheel today. Tried to mount my kenda slant 6 tire with a tube( I know). Couldn't even get close to getting it on. Greetings: I just got an off-the-shelf Salsa Spearfish (a screaming deal BTW) that came with stock ZTR Arch rims, tubes, and Conti X Kings as part of the package. I will be upgrading to some new Stan's ZTR rims soon I was thinking the new Arch EX 29'' rims, but I will be running tires anywhere from the 2.1 to maybe 2.4 depending on the season.
