Strengths:    Light weight and wide, 25mm wide for a 400 gram rim is nice. In my experience Salsa rims always build up very nicely.

Weaknesses:    Tire seating issues.

Bottom Line:
While this rim is high quality, light, and wide for a 400 gram XC rim, it is absolutely the most difficult to get a tire seated properly of any rim I have come across in my 25 years of being a bicycle mechanic/20+ years of building wheels. I've tried Kenda, Maxxis, Specialized and Contenintal tires on them, soapy water, straight dish soap, rubbing alcohol, windex, and baby powder and they still require well over 70 psi before the tires will seat. Unfortunately, that high of pressure also pushes the rim tape out of the way leading to cut tubes. For the record, i've tried pretty much every option for rim tape/strips out there as well, doesn't matter. A flat on the trail required 3 co2 cartridges to reseat the tire. Bottom line is, there's a reason Salsa took these out of production. So if you come across some selling for a "good deal", do yourselves a favor and pass on by. Hopefully they have changed the shape of the rim well on the disc rims they currently produce (that's the problem with these). As a side note, I still highly recommend their rim brake versions, as they are very good rims.

Strengths:    Light

Weaknesses:    Mounting

Bottom Line:
The only complaint I have with this rim is the mounting. I had to wet the rim with soapy water and put 70psi into the tire to get the bead to seat. I tried using a lower pressure of 25-30 and seating it by hand like the salsacycles website suggests, but this led nowhere. I don't think I would get these rims again solely for this factor. There are other rims out there that are just as light and don't require this much work to seat the bead. Other than the mounting I have no complaints with the rim.

Salsa Delgado 29'er Race Rims (problematic?)

I had my 4th front tire flat of the season. Never had this problem until I started using these rims. I have a 2.1 Ignitor on it and it seems the tire does not stay seated securely on the rim. One of the flats was full-on tube explosion with a loud pop. I'm pretty sure the tire came of the rim ...
