Strengths: Solid, stable, stay trueWeaknesses: little heavyBottom Line: I'm no pro. Just a 240lb guy that has a good time outdoors. That being said, I have trashed many bikes, usually rims first. I'm sure all the obsessed, hardcore riders with money to burn would scoff at these wheels. That's fine, these are probably not for you. I myself have had no issues with them at all. They get me where I want to go, bottom line. As far as tire changes, no issues there either. Sounds like a few people should learn to use tools properly. For the money, you can't beat the rims.

Strengths: Strong, Stays truedWeaknesses: tires tightBottom Line: I don't pretend to be the toughest rider out there, but I put about 1000 miles of Single track on my bike each year.I've gone through Several rims before I got these, and they've held up Pretty Well For a couple of years now with only slight adJustments. They are heavier but the reliability is well worth it.

Strengths: Strong, OCR looks coolWeaknesses: real tough to get tires offBottom Line: I ride hard and am about 200 lbs and I can't bend these things. Last rims used to need work after almost every ride. I would certainly recommend these for xc riding. Changing tires is way to hard I've snapped atleast a dozen levers putting on slicks for my trainer and the occasional fund raising street ride.

Strengths: it hold true for the most partWeaknesses: impossible to get the tire on, heavyBottom Line: Well folks, this rim is probably the worst thing anyone can ever stick you with. I curse Marin for including this wheel with my bike. I would rather they charge me extra not to put this useless rim on it. I had a flat out on the trail and to my surprise, the tire would not come off the rims. After breaking 2 tire levers, i got fed up with it and took out the screwdriver. After wrestling with that for about an hour I finally replaced the tube. I had to mill off about 2mm along the entire rim to be able to replace tires as one would do on a normal set of rims. If I had more money I would buy a new set of rims, but since I don't i'll deal with these until they pancake.

Strengths: I use these rims back and front and i do downhill, street, and a little jumping around. It still is good.Weaknesses: It's too thin, when u put in it a 2.35 tire it looks dumbBottom Line: I recommend it to xc people. Don't do heavy downhilling around...and dirt jumping with this rim. I don't know how long it will last on my bike. I think Mach 1 rims are much better.

Strengths: Um... They're round. Or rather, they WERE on the day I got the bike.Weaknesses: Rear buckled, sorry actually folded over, about a week after I bought the bike. I've been run over three times since 1980, and in all of those accidents, I've never seen a wheel that bent over like my rear Ritchey 'so-called' Rock. How did it happen? I hopped off a kerb! Two inches!Bottom Line: These belong in a joke shop, not a bike shop.
I agree with the guy who reckons Tom Ritchey owes him Fifty bucks; I reckon he owes me some English Pound notes, and an apology, too.

Strengths: You can bolt it to your bike.Weaknesses: weekest wheel ever. breaks tire leavers, beakes steal beads, and pinches tubes putting the tire on. needs trued after every ride.Bottom Line: Ritchey should be hung by his balls for putting these wheels on the market. They could at least give you a truing stand with these wheels. I had a freind of mine who builds a hell of a good wheel build these so that is not the problem. stop bying ritchey producs they are less that walmart quality.

Strengths: Stiff, handbuilt, Lasted a long timeWeaknesses: could be stronger, to avaid flatspotsBottom Line: I Really abused these rims. I underinflated my tires. never adjusted my pads, so they gouged deep ruts into the sidewalls, I bent them horrifflicly and managed to get them true. The rear wheel was riddled with flatspots when I was done. They stayed true and developed a bit of brake chatter from the flatspots and the slight inconguity in the fron from when I bent it. Four seasons, three forks That I outperformed, A new drivetrain, but these wheels still worked. They never broke beyond what a spokewrench could fix. To be honest, I miss their stiffness. used from 97, 98, 99, 00, when the bike was stolen (new wheels were on order)

Strengths: Its metal and its roundWeaknesses: Its too bigBottom Line: This rim is total rubbish don't,don't buy them.I bought them as part of a complete bike,so i didn't have a choice. They're perfectly strong enough for XC riding if your about 11 stone like me,but they 're too damn big.I've had to resort to using a screw driver to get my tyres off the rim-which doesn't do them any good.I have to change my tyres regularly to use my bike on my trainer and its just damn annoying when you keep snapping your tyre levers.I run slime and tuff tape in my tyres,so I've been lucky enough to not have a puncture on the trail, but if you did ,with these rims, you'd be totally screwed because theres no guarantee you'll get your tyres off.Its not exactly rocket science making a rim to the proper size, its just sloppy manufacture. In most circumstances you're spoilt for choice when you buy I cycle product and theres no excuses for crap like this.I'm not going to buy a Ritchey product again because I'm fed up of wasting my time swapping my tyres on these naff rims.

Strengths: These rims are reasonably strong and hold their true well. Ignore those reviews by freeriding morons who would trash anything other than a Sun Phat Albert. If they try jumping on XC rims what do they expect? These rims build up fairly easily too.Weaknesses: The weight. They weigh a lot more then the maker's claimed weight. I bought them because they were cheaper than Mavic 221's and had the same claimed weight at about 430 grams. I was therefore pretty surprised and disappointed when I put them on the scales (digital and known to be accurate), and found the front rim weighing in at 485 grams, and the rear at over 490. You always expect some degree of production variation, but not this much, and I think Ritchey are being less than honest hereBottom Line: Good rims to ride, but take the claimed weight with a very large pich of salt.

Strengths: absolutely no strengths whatsoever. these rims suck so bad that i want to them into the mouth of an errupting volcano.Weaknesses: about as strong as aluminum foil folded into a rim shape. but without a doubt the most annoying thing about these rims is the fact that it is almost physically impossible to get a tire on them. they're simply damned too big. i've know 2 people now that had these rims and they have both had the same problem of not being able to get tires on. these rims suck so bad that i won't even sell them, they are useless. i would actually feel bad if i sold these to someone... knowing i had sentenced them to hours of frustration.Bottom Line: don't buy these rims. if your going to buy a bike that has these rims as a package - work a deal with the dealer to have them upgraded immediately. write your congressman and instruct him to legislate new that make the production of such crappy rims a criminal offense.
tom ritchey, you owe my 100 dollars. email me at mcslain@yahoo.com if you feel any responsibilities for your products...

Strengths: Err..ocr rear looks kinda coolWeaknesses: Why does this rim not have eyelets! It's also made of soap.Bottom Line: Comp version,I've tried so many rims in my life and these are easily the worst, even over cheap touring rims. I can't understand why these wheels are so expensive, to say their not eyeleted is a laugh, I'm so light on them, as their my commuting/lightxc wheels and all the spokes are pulling through now on the ocr rear the front needs truing every few days, the alloy they use is a really nasty quality as you could sneeze on them and metal would come off, get some mavic f519 if your a xc rider, or 519 if a bit more hardcore.

Strengths: Hmm err thats a tough one erm come back to you on that one...........oh yea they make nice hula hoopsWeaknesses: Weak a water no eyelets no strengthBottom Line: These rims suck if you plan to do any more than goto to the supermarket. i took them out for a ride at mousehold and i came up a little to short on this gappy on a duelly ttype course and it sort of got a monster buckle both ways. i think though if id had V's the rim wouldint of moved so much because the v's would of forced it back. is that price right 50 dollars that about £30 dam that expensive you can get d521s for that christ.
