Strengths:    Width. Strength. Truenss

Weaknesses:    They will flat spot all to hell if you do.

Bottom Line:
Get the rim. I rode these dogs hard for the first month but I flat spotted the rear wheel on curb off of a 5 foot drop. It was a 5 foot drop with about a 10-12 foot gap with the first 8 inches of the landing zone being a curb. I hit the curb square on the corner and yoked the rim. But, I'm 230 and it was an ugly spot to hit the rim on which dented it. It flatted about 8" of the rim though and loosed 24 of the spokes. It could have been the wheel build too.

On another day though, I was riding Mt Wilson and had a flat (on my Maxxis no less) and rode another MILE or so on the flat with mostly just the rim sticking out. I rode it through all the rock gardens and tough stuff and when I got the flat fixed, the rim was still true. Not a dent, scratch or nick in it. I was sold... Still am..

Great rims HED.

Strengths:    Strong
wide
looks
ability to run low air pressure

Weaknesses:    none yet

Bottom Line:
These rims kick a$$, I run nokian 2.6's and have yet to pinch flat. I did the bullet course at mammoth this July and went the whole weekend racing DH an DS with only 16 psi front, 18 psi rear!!!!
They hold up great and I hope I never have to replace them.
But I'll buy them again for sure.
If you have trouble with trashings rims every season then these are for you.
Plus they come in awesome colors.

Date Reviewed: April 26, 2000

Strengths:    Everything about these rims is Great! Wide, VERY wide. I run a maxxis 2.35 in the rear and when mounted on the HED rim, it has a wider foot print than if you mounted a 2.7 on a Sun/Ringle - Mammoth or Rhino lite, or the Mavic Dee Max. My friend just switched from Hed Rims to Mavic 521DH and he is having a hard time adjusting. Say the skinnier rim is "sketchy". In a year and a half of riding/racing (Big Bear/Derr Valley) I had ONE pinch flat and the only reason was because I was using a regular tube. Since started using DH tubes...NO FLATS!! These Rims RULE!!
oh, yea...Spoke Hole Gromets

Weaknesses:    Limited color selection? I'm thinking of buying a new set (not that the ones I have wouldn't make it through another season) but just to have them powder coated white.

Bottom Line:
I break EVERYTHING & I still haven't destroyed my HED Rims!
I've broken an Ellsworth Dare Front triangle & Chainstay, but the HEDs keep going strong...

See you on the mountain

Incrediblie strong. Changes the whole profile of the tire. Better grip on turns. Less pinch flats. Makes any tire look huge. Run lower tire pressure. Motorcycle tubes fit into it easy.
