Strengths:    It is a 29er...

Weaknesses:    flexible
very weak

Bottom Line:
I bought the wheel (dm 18 36 spokes mated to a novatec hub, don't know what brand spokes) from a bicycle shop, as i needed a new 29er front wheel. It was fitted on a rigid front fork.
The shop said it can be used for mountain biking (although it is a hybrid bike rim?) as it is the same width as mountain biking rims (the shop apparently does not believe in design or materials science).
On the first ride I noticed that it felt a little flexible. Might have been a combination of the tyre (wtb motoraptor 2.1) and the wheel (was riding hardpack) that made the front end NOT confidence-inspiring. The front fork was a rigid.
At the end of the ride, I managed to fall of the bike and... what do you know... the front wheel tacoed. It was beyond help and nobody managed to true it since.
Now I should say that a few months ago my bike was hit in the front wheel (t-boned) by a car as I was crossing the street. The frame broke, so did two of my ribs and the front wheel (a 26 mavic 717) was just as damaged after this massive crash as the dm 18 after a simple fall on dirt. After this, I bought a sun ringle eq23 and built the whole wheel myself (for half the price of the alex wheel) and 100 km of all mountain trails, countless kerb jumps and a couple of crashes later, that rim is still true.
This is why the alexrim gets the lowest flamin' chili score possible, and it would get zero if that would be an option. Only get it if you plan to ride to the shops and back, without jumping any kerbs ever and definitely without never ever crashing, ever!

Strengths:    -Stays true
-Lighter than my old rhyno light
-Pretty stiff on the back
Easy to build and true
-Super easy to put tires on
-Good braking surface

Weaknesses:    -Having said its stiff and stays true, theres often a weight penalty... these aren't exactly heavy but they aren't as light as they could be. It was an upgrade however from my rhino lights
-No eyelets!!

Bottom Line:
For what they weigh and what the price is they really aren't bad at all. They took a day long ride at Palos no problem and have no signs of any problems... despite this wheel having been previously built. Obviously not that best at what I'm using it for, but for a cheap Alex Rim it is sure surprising. Keep in mind however, that this wheel doesn't go airborne beyond what it has to for riding purposes.

it was also hand built using DT comp spokes for the inner spokes and straight 2.0 on the outer. Makes for quick riding.

Strengths:    Cheap price
easy to true
Takes abuse without massive break down
Cheap enough to fix yourself without worrying if you did the job right

Weaknesses:    Warp freaquently
Spoke work loose over time
No Warranty
Not meant for big huck

Bottom Line:
If you need a quick repair part its great on the wallet but just a suggestion you get a better rim for thelong run. If you have a crap frame and are being parts for it, this rim is perfect for the frame. But if have a good frame don't fall for the cheap crap go for the good stuff
