Submitted by WhoaThere a Cross Country Rider from New Ringgold, PA, USA
Date Reviewed: July 18, 2009
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $45.00
Purchased At:eBay
Strengths:Light for the Price - 168g. Well-made. Easy to service; uses common Tools.
Weaknesses:Can be tricky to adjust bearings. Replacement-parts are a bit pricey at an LBS. (Hint: Search eBay.)
Similar Products Used:Most of them
Bike Setup:Fuji Outland RC
Bottom Line:Readers should be cautious when considering remarks made by other riders since very little is known or can be verified about a reviewer's background. Sometimes motives are suspect, sometimes mechanical ability is limited, and often product and/or bike knowledge is unreliable. (Using a 28mm-spanner to adjust bearings is pure Nonsense). I've used all types of Shimano hubs for years, and I can honestly say that any properly maintained XT hub is the equivalent of any other in its price-range in terms of weight and reliability. Like a car, a bike needs INSP.

Date Reviewed: August 7, 2008
Favorite Trail:glentress
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $70.00
Purchased At:merlin cycles
Strengths:it rolls n thats about it !!!
Weaknesses:cant service this hub because nobody seems to have the 28mm cone spanner needed to do it
Similar Products Used:hope pro
Bike Setup:commencal meta 666
Bottom Line:used this hub for less than 3 hours n the lock ring was'nt tight so the cone screwed tight against the bearing , so off to the local shop to see if they could look at the bearing to see if it was ok ,after visiting 5 shops in glasgow no one had the tool to loosen the cone to check it not even one of the UK shimano tech guys had the tool so the shop i bought it from had to replace the whole set-up ! shimano should get their act together n not distribute products no one can service
