Favorite Trail:Skeggs
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:was on bike
Strengths:Don't know
Weaknesses:This came on an Ellsworth tandem. The first time on the bike, we went 100 yds up a hill and the pawls broke. I replaced the pawls. The third time I took out the bike, the pawl race stripped from the hub. Twice now I have had to climb out of a valley because the hub broke. Ringle have sent me a replacement Jumping Flea. Based on the other reviews, I don't know whether to sell it while it works or run the risk getting caught out in the woods again.
Similar Products Used:XTR, XT hubs on my Blur. LX rear hub on my Cannondale MT800 tandem. They have all taken a thrashing and never broken.
Bike Setup:Ellsworth Witness full suspension tandem. 24 granny, 32 rear. Too much torque for Ringle.
Bottom Line:As long as you don't climb hills with a small granny, you are probably OK to use this hub.

Duration Product Used:1 Year

Purchased At:OEM on Commencal
Strengths:Hmmm, let me think... Err, no. The front one seems ok.
Weaknesses:they die quicker than any hub ever
Similar Products Used:Hope (fantastic), shimano LX, deore, XT, XTR plus loads of no name stuff
Bike Setup:Commencal meta 5.5 team. Fox 36s, SRAM XO
Bottom Line:This review is for the Flea hubs. First things first - the front one is fine after a year's intermitant us in harsh uk conditions. As I'd expect from any hub.

The rear one is completely dead though. Bearings completely gone in the freehub, though the pawls are fine. Lets put this into perspective. I still have a 1992 shimano XT rear hub running fine on its original freehub. I have several Hope hubs running smooth from the late 90's. I have Deore hubs running smooth too (except the cones loosening). If I'd bought this piece of over hyped tat at retail (£115 in the UK) I'd have been furious it went so quickly. As its OEM I'll take the hit, see how much the freehub is to replace (as the freehub body needs replacing too - apparently its made of cheese or something equally soft - the cassette has eaten right into the splines). So, maybe if you live in the sunny ol' USofA they are ok, but anywhere where it might rain, forget them and get shimano or Hope (or King if your loaded). Bottom line? Tat.

Strengths:Bomb proof. Smoother than satin.
Weaknesses:They apparently don't make em like they used to.
Similar Products Used:Yeah, right.
Bike Setup:Custom everything. Mostly Shimano parts, some Deore DX even. Mavic rims. Azonic bars. All else changes.
Bottom Line:I got an anodized ringle front hub in 92 and I just finished up using it this year (2008). It still runs more smoothly than anything else I've seen or used. This thing is simply unmatchable. Replaced only, thats absolutely only, because I got sick of brake pad alignment and moved everything I ride to disc brakes.

Its being donated to a friend for more use. One thing to note, I did replace the bearings with triple sealed general mechanics in 95. Not because the previous ones were worn, just because I never wanted to think about liquid getting in the bearings while doing races that include river crossings.

Favorite Trail:Ringwood State Park
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:cambriabike.com
Strengths:They look nice, and the clickity-click of the rear hublets hikers know you're coming!
Weaknesses:Just like it seems 75% of the people on MTBR.com said, the pawls broke after about a year or so of intermediate level riding. Bearings wear out fast too. At an MSRP of $250+ for the rear hub alone, there is no excuse for this.
Similar Products Used:Shimano, Formula, Syncros hubs? Back in the day, I might have even had some Suntour hubs, but I don't remember since NONE of them ever caused me a bit of grief.
Bike Setup:Rocky Mountain Switch w/Marzocchi 66VF fork, Sun Eight Track wheels and (of course) Ringle' ABBAH hubs.
Bottom Line:I've been having problems with this hub, so I googled for some info and it took me here. Now, I find out that people have been having the same problems with these rear hubs for almost 10 years?!?!? And, I have to laugh at the folks telling us that we don't know how to maintain our bikes? I've been riding for over 15 years now (even worked in a bike shop through high school) and NEVER had to do anything worth mentioning to keep a SEALED BEARING hub rolling..........you shouldn't have to, and anyone who says differently is either buying into what the tech support at Sun tells them or justifying their purchase of this overpriced mechanical nightmare. Then again, maybe they work for Sun and are trying to balance out what would otherwise be nothing but poor reviews.

Hey Sun-Ringle' how long does it take to reinvent the wheel here? Redesign your hub, come out with a new one, or at the very least, take this awful thing off the market. Come to think of it, the rims aren't as good as Mavic either.

Bottom Line:These hubs realy are excellent hubs if properly cared for,I have been on these things for years and thosands of hard core XC miles and had little to no issues with them. I have one set in particular that I have relaced three times and replaced the bearings on once in probably six or seven years of use.I bought a second set pre built from sun on a package deal with four of my buds because the 0-deg wheel hub combo is hard to beat dollar for dollar. Tony at sun warranty was very good to deal with for replacment parts and also willing to sell wheel packages at my request. All of muy riding crew are still running these wheels and hubs with no problems.
Here is why! If you own these hubs the first thing you must do is remove the free hub body. Easy to do with allen wrenches. RINGLE recomends oil in the free hub!! F#$# that!! Wipe out any oil in the body find a good synthetic grease FINISHLINE or similar, remove the pawls from the freehub body, next remove the three springs that rest behind the pawls, carefully give each spring a little stretch outward to help increase the pressure on the pawls.
Apply a thin amount of grease into each pawl cup and sping hole, reinstall all springs and pawls, coat entire outside of pawls and inner hub ratchet with grease.Dont go nuts on the grease but be sure to keep all contact points and pawl serfaces coated well. Reinstall freehub onto hub by carefully rotating freeub body, you may have to carfully push the pawls into the body a bit with a small screwdriver to clear the outside of the hub.Reinsall cassette, Grease the interface there too.
With this being done you will notice that the freehub is now much quiter than ever before and engagement should be spot-on,when you hear it geting noisey its time to grease again!!!!!
I think these poor rear hubs have gotten a bad rap they realy dont deserve if they are cared for like I said they prove to be a great performing, rebuildable, durable platform that come in way less $ than XTR. Great colors to.
OF course once you scrape up the money for KING they will be a great back up set!!! KING is KING!!!

Bottom Line:Best hub I've owned for the $$$. I've retired it this year I guess 'cause I went to disc brakes. It's just sitting there looking at me like it did something wrong. I rode it pretty hard for about 11 years. 4 of that was racing. Never had a problem with that hub.

I HAVE TAKEN APART AND SERVICED EVERYTHING I CAN SO BIKE SHOPS DONT CHARGE ME AN ARM AND LEG, AND I'VE GOT TO SAY THAT THE HUB DRIVE ENGAGEMENT SYSTEM IS VERY POORLY MADE FOR AGGRESSIVE USE. IF YOU RACE XC-NO PROBLEM, IF YOU RIDE TO THE STORE AND BACK-NO PROBLEM, IF YOU RIDE LIKE THE 3 YEAR OLD DOWN THE STREET-NO PROBLEM. BUT IF YOU ARE LIKE ME AND LIKE TO HAVE FUN ON YOUR BIKE, STAY AWAY FROM THIS HUB. I HAVE HAD MINE FOR 14 MONTHS AND IT IS NOW GARBAGE. Bottom Line:I have replaced the engagement pawls twice on this hub since I purchased it a little over a year and a half ago. Today, while I'm riding the rear hub once again cuts loose and won't engage, although I can hear the pawls purring while freewheeling the 3 miles back to my car. When I get home, I disconnect the cassette body and find that the ring gear that the pawls ride in and engage with, has broken free from the hub shell and is just spinning inside. I bought this wheelset (ABBAH hubs with singletrack rims) because they seemed stout and were 1/4 the cost of my King / Mavic wheelset on my hardtail. Well, I guess you still get what you pay for!! I am hoping I can still contact Sun Ringle and get some kind of satisfaction. With all the hubs I've tried, I have one piece of advice. If you want rugged, and inexpensive, buy Shimano XT's, if you want the best, buy Chris King. Stay the hell away from Ringle!!!

Weaknesses:the rear hub
Bottom Line:I've had a set of SUV wheels (Rhino XLs + Ringle' Abbah disc hubs) for about 2 years. I'm not happy to say I've had more mechanical problems with this rear hub than with any other single component I've ever owned.

The re-occuring problem has been the pawls shearing off and leaving the hub either skipping under load or unable to engage and drive forward. When I say reoccuring, I mean I've personally rebuilt the original rear hub 3 times, always finding the same metal shavings and worn pawls inside. I thought there must be something wrong with the hub itself and to their credit Ringle was good enough to replace the rear hub and re-lace my wheel under warranty. (mind you, after much complaining on my part)

After the replacement I had a few months with a trouble free hub. Then the old slipping and skipping issues returned. I opened the hub up to find the same sheared pawl conditon that I'd seen many times before. Again, to Ringle's credit, they sent me enough spare parts to rebuild my hub many, many times over. Rebuilds on the replacement hub: 2 in less than one year. Total over 2 hubs in just less than 2 years: 5 times.

Just this past week I felt what I thought was the same old problem, the hub was skipping under load. I pulled the wheel off to start rebuild #3 and discovered that my rear axle was snapped in two. Covered under warranty and not associated with my reoccuring problem, but another thing that kept me from a ride.

I chose the Ringle hubs because I wanted a strong hub with fast engagement (which is how they are marketed) but thought I would save the $$$ from buying King hubs. I'm very happy with the hubs when they work, but I'd never had such a "p.i.t.a., keep me off my bike" problem with another product.

I know Ringle has a good reputation, and they have done what they can to remedy all of my problems, but I don't know that I'd buy another Ringle hub based on my experience.

The area where you mount the cassette was not the proper size. I had to swap the rear hub for a Chris King before I could even ride it. It's been 3 months and now the front hub is howling. The stock bearings are crap, but for $20 bucks you can get 4 new ones and replace them in an evening. Most of the problems described would be remedied with new bearings. I know you should not have to replace the bearings so quickly(A few months), but for 20 bucks and a nights labor you won't have to buy a whole new hub and may actually enjoy this one. Bottom Line:I read a lot of bad reviews and bought these hubs anyway. I have NOT had problems. I think they're great. The freehub seal will not keep out all water, just grime. This means that you have to do some maintenance on them regularly ( clean and add oil). it's easy and only takes a few minutes. The manual tells how to do it and says that it must be done. I imagine a lot of the people having problems with these hubs may not be doing this, or I just got a good pair. I recently bought a set of Ringle RPM Lite with the 439 hub (same as super duper) for my hardtail. I havn't ridden them enough to comment yet. yes, I do ride hard and in rough trails, dirt jumping, and some street riding, so they do take some abuse. I am fairly heavy ~190lb, and I am not the smoothest rider, so i hit things pretty hard, this hub has been great. It gives confidence going into a berm anything, knowing you have a bomb proof front wheel. Also the D shaped axle is super cool.

I have sent it back 3 times because of 3 different problems. Ringle is real good. 2 of the 3 times I got a new hub but it was still no good. I'll see how long the new one lasts I bet about one year at best.
I give the Front a 5 and the rear a 1.

Bottom Line:I have a Ringle rear hub that I bought about 6 years ago (maybe more)It started giving me trouble engaging about a month after I bought it. I sent it back through my dealer, then it stopped working about year and a half after I bought it. At that time, I stopped using it because I bought a new Litespeed bike and a wheelset built with Christ King hubs. I recently sent the old Ringle rear hub back to Ringle through my LBS and they told me that the hub was worn out and there was nothing they could do. Worn out! There is no way I wore that hub out. Also recently, my Chris Kings were acting a little stiff, like they were dragging inside. I wanted the pros at Chris King to rebuild them for the upcoming race season, so I called them and they said sure no problem, send them in. Within one week the rebuilt hub was at my door. Chris King had rebuilt it with an oversize bearing, flushed and repacked all bearings, new free hub body and new seals. All at no charge! I don't think that I'll ever buy any other hub than Chris King. I know they are a little expensive, but if you weigh in all of there benefits, they are way better and cheaper than any other top hubs. Just my two cents!

Strengths:Great customer service. They back up their product
Weaknesses:this hub was originally bought back in 1993, and has been repaired or replaced no less than 5 times for broken pawls or worn ramps. At one point the rep told me they were having a problem with an outside vendor improperly hardening the pawls/ramps and that's why they were failing, but I continue to have the same problem. The last time they just sent a new hub, which just shelled out yesterday! I'm 205# and pretty aggressive, but am relatively easy on equipment overall. Even considering the great customer service, I'm chucking this thing because I just can't trust it.

Strengths:Front hub
Weaknesses:Rear hub
Similar Products Used:Shimano LX, XT, Hugi hubs
Bottom Line:Ringle shouldnt be selling the rear hub. The freehub
mechanism has fallen apart three times in the last 6
months. The paws wear, the springs are not strong enough
to consistently engage the hub, the lock nut
that keeps the freehub body tight to the hub will
loosen and XT cogs fit too tight onto the freehub body.
It takes a few extra maneuvers with a sprocket tool to
brake the cogs free when removing them.

This has nothing to do with dirt. All of the hubs were
spotless on the inside.

This has nothing to do with maintenance. I wrenched for
5 years at a small shop. Im well aware of what is
exceptable care for a hub....and how to do it.

The freehub body's design is flawed. This hub cannot take
the stresses of good, hard, cross-country riding. And
I will admit, after years of dealing with the
inaccessibility of Hugi's freehub mechanism, that I was
excited with the ease of which Ringle's hub would
disassemble. But it just doesnt work on the trails.

This junk just should not be on the market; at these
prices and with that name on it

Please apologize Ringle...Sun...whoever you are, and
tell me you made a mistake and will make it all better.

It's nice to see that high quality bearings made in China are used in a $200 hub. MFG support has been poor at best, and info/help from the Ringle crew at the recent NCS Mount Snow race wasn't much better, they told me good bearings cost too much to use.

I got a super bargain on an RPM wheelset with Ti spokes (quite possibly the worst thing you can do for your handling) just 3 months ago. I ride kinda hard, and climbing a steep one my rear hub (superduper 8) just let go. I took it apart and discovered the threaded in ratcheting ring had stripped and was spinning in it's seat. I called Ringle, and they've since inserted a steel threaded ring to fix the problem. They gave me the info to send the whole wheel back, and three days (THREE FRIGGIN' DAYS!) there was a rebuilt wheel on my doorstep. So my experience has been a good one...fast, friendly service, and continuous quality improvement. I see others have not had the same experience, but hopefully that's all in the past. I would give Ringle a second chance...Deserves at max 4 since it broke, but I'll give it 5 for fixing the problem, great service, and to boost the rating a wee bit.

Bottom Line:First off, the hub I had was the new, supposedly more beefy, 439 downhill hub. I got a wheelset(RPM XXL) from a sponsorship deal from Sun/Ringle', and it came with the Sun of Bubba on the front, 439 on the rear, new Rhyno Lite rims, and black spokes. I thought this wheelset would be a good choice for observed trials. It also looks very cool, and matches my bike perfectly. Obviously, I was mistaken when the durability issue came to light. After 4 months of rear wheel moves and drop offs, one day the hub just did not engage. I might also mention that there was a thin piece of wire that had been sheared off the inside of the hub.Let me mention that I always maintain all of the products I buy. I always clean, adjust, and tighten every nut and bolt on my bike after I ride. I learned the hard way that, in Observed Trials, if you want things to last a bit longer, you have to keep your bike in good order. I do not look forward to having the stem bolts break on me when I land a drop off.As one of the other posters mentioned, I too have had trouble getting the hub warrantied. Sun/Ringle' gave me two options: they send me a new hub at no cost, and I get to go to the trouble of building up the wheel; or send the wheel back and they'll put the new hub in when their one customer service guy has a chance to. Since I didn't want to buy new black spokes, I sent the wheel back. I found out that their one guy also does support for all the NORBA races, so he hasn't been at work for a couple weeks. I've been waiting patiently for about a month now, with no word. If it doesn't come within a week, it looks like I'll have to start pestering them. My lbs told me that they may be using a new epoxy to hold the engagement drive in, so maybe I won't break it so fast the next time. And if that happens, it looks like I'll have to break down and buy a King or Hugi.

Bottom Line:I have these hubs on a set of Ringle Clydes. I guess I'm a fairly average size rider, 190 lbs. These hubs were fine for about 5 months of infrequent riding--twice a week for about 20 miles. Anyway, I started riding a lot more in the past 6 months or so and the rear hub developed a strange noise when pedaling, which altered in sound when additional pressure was applied. I originally thought it was something totally different, but it ended up being the hub since putting the wheel on another bike didn't solve the problem. First off, I can't get the freewheel lock not to stay tightened. I have to remove the cassette and tighten it up every two rides or so. I also think the freewheel mechanism is on its way to failure since it no longer engages as well. In summary, I'm not here to bash Ringle. I've used thse for a year, would of liked to have had them last a lot longer, but they didn't. I maintened them regularly, but who knows, maybe I was doing something wrong. But, I did have similar problems which were mentioned below by the people with low ratings of this product. I don't the think the problems relate directly to the hub, but instead to Ringle's quality control, since the reviews are either quite positive or negative. For the amount of money one has to lay out for this product, this should not be a problem. I'm switching back to Chris Kings which never gave me problems, but Ringle's weren't a total washout as evidened by my rating of three flaming turds.

Bottom Line:Bought a Sun/Ringle wheelset late last fall and had only rode them a few times before retiring the bike for the winter. On the 3rd ride this spring, my rear cog wanted to continually spin when I would try to free wheel even though I wasn't pedaling. The cog would drive as much of the chain forward as it could to the point where there was slack on top and absolutely none on the bottom. This caused the chain slack to make it's way into my spokes. Didn't damage the spokes but it sounded awful. When I tried to freewheel and pedal backward, the cog (freewheel) woud only turn forward. I now had direct drive without a choice (remember those old high wheelers). If you can imagine pedaling on a washed out down hill and not be able to get off the saddle and
freewheel.............I couldn't stand and pedal on my way down either.I called Ringle and they said that the guy that takes care of the repairs was out of town at a race promoting the products. My question is, does all progress stop when this guy is out of town? I don't understand how a company can survive like this. So in other words, nothing gets accomplished in their warranty and repair dept. if this guy is not around. I called the mailorder company that I bought them from and asked the owner if I could send the wheels back and trade them in for a different set. He recommended the Nuke Proof Superflys with Bonty Mustang Assym rims. So far the new set has been every bit as good as Mountain Bike Magazine has rated them, which they won an editors choice award in the June 99 issue. When I read the comments people had posted I thought they were over reacting about cracked front hub flanges and busted free wheel mechanisms on the rear, until it happened to me. I always like to give a company a competitve opportunity to prove themselves, after all not all the posts weren't bad. If you read all the posts that mention broken freewheel mechanism, believe it. Maybe it's a good design and poor quality control. I say this because it appears that most of the postings are either good or just down right bad. What ever reason it may be it happened to me and worst of all it happened after only a 100 miles or so of riding. Ringle needs to have a brain storming meeting with their R&D, plant & quality control personel. It would only be in their best interest to do so. I'm just fortunate that the mailorder co. that I bought them from allowed me to exchange them for another set. At this point my recommendation would be to opt for another set of hubs until this problem doesn't appear again.

I agree with the people earlier...If you bought a new $40K car - wouldn't you change the oil and make sure it's properly maintained and expect to pay for it. High-end hubs are the same way. If you're going to spend the money, then be ready to take care of it. All it takes is some proper maintenance.Plus, I see reviews from '97, and on product that Ringle doesn't even sell anymore. If you're having problems with your product, then why don't some of these people contact Ringle. That's what you'd do if it was your car or your computer.Sure, a high end hub should last a long time, but, hell-then everything else on your bike should last long. But then it requires the proper maintenance. So, my point is... I've had a Ringle SuperDuperEight Hubset on my bike for 3.5 years now. With proper maintenance and making sure my wheels have been built properly I've had no major problems. I have taken the hub apart and made sure it is lubed properly, I have checked the bearings and replaced one and I have checked over the ratchet ring... all fine. See - simple maintenance. All things that are said to be taken care of in the product instructions. And anything I couldn't do or thought might need to be factory repaired, I picked up the phone and called Ringle. Turned out that my shop could do it all, but if not, Ringle would have done it.

My rewiew is regrding the rear superbubba (8 speed).
The only suggestion is don't buy it. For less money you can found something better like Shimano XT. It weights a lot for a no bombproof hub.
I replaced the hub after 150 miles of off road biking (30 miles only of serious race). I dicovered several problems.
- Inner parts are too exposed to the mud and whater. The no drive side seal is big but it doesn't work fine.
- Bearings are too weak. I found play after the first 30 miles.
- I found unscrewed the lock bearing nut on the drive side after the only race that I did with this hub.
- Clicks on freeweel are too noisy and spaced in a way that doesn't allow immediat engagement during pedaling (too much spaced).Personally I don't like ball bearig hubs: They can't be adjusted, ball are too spaced for the load that they have to support and radial ball bearing are not good to support angled loads, moreover hub axle are usually designed slitted in two, three parts in order to provide easy assembly, light weight and cheap cost, all things that can't give acceptable coaxial tolerances between the two bearig housings.

To start off let me say thatthese hubs are sweet. They are not only good looking they are bombproof and out perform all others. Like Noah said before, they are biult to last. Your might as well sell your spoke wrench to your friend with the Shimano hubs. True wheels = speed and comfort. => Ringle = a sweet ride.

LISTEN! I think it is safe to say that Ringle has some manufacturing problems, but I have owned Ringle hubs for about 4 years now. I still have a few stories to tell. These are the only wheels I have ridden for years! They have been pounded at ski-resort downhills, technical rocky NJ singletrack, sumerged in WV rivers...etc. They are pretty indestructable. The hubs are nice and stiff and give me a good ride. Think about it JJ Gregarowitz pound on these things with his stock bike. (10 foot drops.)I have had no major problems, until I recently had play develop in the (4 year old) rear hub--sent it to Ringle--they lost it. That seems to be a problem, because I noticed others complaining that Ringle lost their equipment. Well, anyway, they were going to replace the bearing for free and send it back. Since they lost it, they built/sent me a whole new wheel for free. You really can't complain about that price. Good customer support.Anyway, the reason I think so many people have problems with these hubs is that their wheels are not built well. For the most part, alot of people radial lace these hubs. They aren't really meant for that. Not to mention, radial lacing doesn't improve performance. (do the physics) Radial lacing will break hub flanges, and perhaps Rngle's are more prone to this. I can't see a poorly built wheel would effect a hub flange however. Anyway, other bearing and seal difficulties, I can't imagine after all the hell I put my hubs through. (My Ringle SuperBubba front hub was purchased in 1994, and is still runs like new.)
Suffice to say, Ringle must have some manufacturing inconsistancies. And lastly, they tend to be heavy true. The reason I would not pruchase them again is because the drive side rear bearing cannot be serviced at home. (I assume other manufacturers allow for home servicing of the bearings.)

For all you morons out there who need A refresher course in hubs I think it is time I give it to you. A) when you purchase a hub from Ringle, Chris King Etc you have just purchased a race quality high end hub worthy of world class competition....As with any mechanical part of this caliber it is going to be tempermental.....THEY DO REQUIRE MAINTANENCE!!!!!After every hard ride they should be looked at cleaned and lubricated properly or at least once a week in normal conditions........IT IS NOT THAT HARD TO DO.....If you dont know how to properly maintain these hubs then ask your dealer......If they are incompitant then call the manufactuer and they will tell you how.......IF YOU CANT TAKE THE TIME TO CARE ABOUT YOUR EQUIPMENT AND YOU EXPECT IT TO TAKE CARE OF ITSELF YOU SHOULD GO BACK TO SHIMANO LX COMPONENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are very reliable for people who neglect equipment(you people know the type Im talking about ....more money than brains.....My G.Fisher Paragon 98 is now decked out in Sun/Ringle ,Race Face And Shimano XTR components Half of which came of my three year old Fisher.............My rating is obvious.............

I love these hubs. I am 6 feet tall and weigh 190 pounds, ride on very rocky and rooty trails and overall just beat the crap out of my stuff. I have broken a couple of frames just from riding normal, blew out a few shocks and aftet two years of riding my Ringle's one of my rear bearing let go. I clean my hubs on a regular basis and lubricate the freewheel when it starts to get loud. I have ridden these hubs in the snow, mud, even into a lake. These hubs are great, could be a little lighter.

I got one of these a couple of weeks ago, along with a Judy DHO, secondhand from a shop near me. The hub has a bolt-through axle. It is probably partly due to the triple-clamps, but this arrangement is massively stiff! Excellent.PS: What's all this bollox about strength? This setup I am riding has been ridden hard for about 8 months, and was last used in the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS! Hope hubs? They suck. Get Ringle.PPS: Not sure about the back one, as it's so F***ing expensive, I can't even afford to look at it, so I use an XT, which is OK, but it's well-cheap.

Everyone should own a Ringle wheelset. I've a pair of Ringles w/217 cd's and 14/15 spokes. I've had them for about 1/2 a year and they're great. The little maintenance that is required can be don in a couple of seconds, and you can't beat the stiffness. I've jumped these wheels so much they've spent more time in the air then on the ground and I've never touched them with a spoke wrench. All of my friends that are busy breaking their spins and shimano wheels are still trying to figure out how my wheels are still intact. Don't listen to all the other guys on this page, Ringles are the best hubs ever. If you have to ask about the weight then they're not for you.

I've heard of many ringle hubs disintegrating during a ride, but I bought them anyway, and after 1 ride, the bearings in the rear hub developed some play. I immediately took them to my favorite shop where the mechanic called ringle about the problem. They said a lot of hubs were produced with bad bearings, the tolerances didn't match the hubs. 3 days later I had a brand new set of bearings and it has been smooth sailing ever since. Anyone with a bad hub may have the same problem I had.

I've had the super dub Front Hub in a Manitou II for over a year and is now in a Manitou SX. Have a trail near the house that is a ~1,500 drop in 1/2 mile - kinda like falling off a cliff. At 210 lps I'm no lite weight and am not a slow rider. I bounce from one rock ridge to the next and slid through one sand wash after another. The hub has held up great, (wore out the MII). It did stiffen up the MII significantly, handles extremely will with the SX and after a lot of rough miles has no slop what so ever. Currently ordering a super eight for the rear.

some trials and I do 6-8 ft drop ins on these wheels at slow to fast speeds
on an Iron Horse AL Hardtail(Can you say rigid) and they are Indextructible.
As f9or the Super Duper Buba, Except for DH axel forks (IE those big ol'
pipe hubs) there ois no better way to stiffen up a fork, that 'D' axel
really F'in works OH MY GOOD-NESS!! Wow..They're a little heavy, but when I'm coasting down a hill past The Nuke-Proofs,
White Industries, XTR, GT, MachinTech, and so on while they're pedaling, I
can't help but smile, and the Engagement of the freewheel is AWESOME.THESE HUBS RULE ( But are pretty have at 202/417 vs 135/280 whor WI ti/tracker set)

They come in purple, green, red, and many other exotic neon colors. The rear superduperbubba hub is expensive but i think that it is worth it because of its lightweight.

Like J. Daniel, I bought a Superduperbubba front hub thinking it would work on a Mag 21. Nope, no way in hell. The flanges are wide to accomodate the dropouts on the Mag 21. So I went out and bought a Judy SL '96. It is stiffer than the superbubba hub it replaced, but it's also about 60 grams (2 oz.) heavier.
The D-shape axel configuration combined with Swoopy Bolts make it a pain in the ass to slip the wheel into the dropouts.
I did not notice that much of an increase in stiffness with the Swoopy bolts, although I did save weight with them. Is the hub worth what it costs? Yes, when compared to Paul's, Chris King and all those other overpriced hubs. None of them have the D shaped axel which makes the Ringle so unique. If you have a Judy
and are in the market for a new hub, look no further than the Superduperbubba.

Had the same wheel (M231+14/15Gspokes+superbubba) for 3 years. The bearings
are still slop-free. Made big difference in fork rigidity (Trek DS2). The
wheel is now on a different bike and fork (Mach5 SX). The new forks (Judys and
Mach 5s) are much more rigid then the old stuff so I don't know how much difference
this hub will make. In any case, it won't hurt! I would give it 5 stars if it was lighter.
How am I suppose to get new parts if the old ones don't break!

This front hub from Ringle weighs in a bit heavier than I wanted, but since I
weigh in at about 190 lbs I wanted a hub that wouldn't flex. Ringle advertises
this hub as a suspension hub, and it *is* that. I couldn't believe the increased
control and decreased torsion in my front suspension, a Rock Shox Quadra 21.
Navigating at higher speeds around tight, rocky singletrack corners is smooth and
tight as opposed to shaky and loose. I am *extremely* impressed with the way
this hub performs.

These Hubs work very well. A bit on the hefty side but that's OK because
they perform. The front hub cuts down on flexy shocks and the rear hub
dose its job nicely with an all most direct drive feel. I haven't had
very many hubs to speak of, or compare them to so I won't. The hubs are
probably to hefty for cross-country rides but they are sweet for an epic
downhill.
