$300.00 | | Purchased At: | local shop | | Strengths: | I had my wheels made by a sophisticated local wheelbuilder about 8 years ago. Since then they had not to be trued one single time. | | Weaknesses: | The nuts on the rear axle went loose frequently until In had an extra washer added. The free hub sometimes "jumps one cam" with a loud "click". | | Similar Products Used: | Shimano XT (rear), Shogun (front) | | Bike Setup: | GT Terramoto custom build | | Bottom Line: | What really impresses my is how few maintainance the wheels need (so far none at all). I used to have wheels that looked like potato chips after only a few years.
DT spokes are very common in Germany since they're from Switzerland. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$300.00 | | Purchased At: | wheel world in anaheim | | Strengths: | straight spokes are more rigid and i had a limited run 24 spoke hub front and 32 rear. they only go out of true when the nipples get loose from big hits which you dont see too often in xc. if you tighten them up every couple hundred miles they are great and will treat you well. the ride is also really plush and they accelerate quickly. the bearings have been cleaned after every race and have held up fine, they look like new. | | Weaknesses: | not made anymore and i know everybody complains about the spokes being expensize since they are dt hugi but thats what you get when you have something original like the first straight pull hub. if you notice mavic and shimano now both make straight pull wheelsets. | | Similar Products Used: | shimano xtr on mavix rims | | Bike Setup: | foes fab fxc, full xtr and fox front and rear | | Bottom Line: | personal preference, if you take care of your bike like i do you love them, i you want to put them on and forget about them then these are not for you. they look great, ride great, straight spokes are rigid but forgiving on big stuff at the expense of the opposite spokes coming loose sometimes. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from San Diego, CA Date Reviewed: December 11, 2000 | | Duration Product Used: | More than 3 years | | Purchased At: | Mission Cyclery | | Strengths: | cool looks, reliable, | | Weaknesses: | uses special order spokes, no longer available | | Bike Setup: | AMP, X-Vert Super, Mostly XT | | Bottom Line: | In three years of hard riding at lest two or three times a week these hubs have performed without a problem. Ive had the rear wheel trued three times and the rims are just about shot, but this is just as as result of normal wear and tear and not due to the hubs. The people who were having problems with the wheels staying true probably had their wheels built by a less than competent builder. That has a lot more to do with a wheel staying true than the hub does. All this is probably pointless though since the hus are no longer available unless you can find a shop that has had a set sitting around for a couple years. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from mo Date Reviewed: April 25, 2000 | | Duration Product Used: | More than 3 years | | Strengths: | light Interesting idea, but does not work well. The idea of straight-pull is good, no bend in the spoke to break. But this allows for the spokes to twist as they move to the non-pressure side of the rolling wheel, and they loosen over time. This has cost me two rims due to uneven spoke tension. Plus spokes are almost impossible to find, and if you do, they cost you super high $ for simple straight guage. Get anything else. | | Weaknesses: | stupid straight-pull spokes | | Similar Products Used: | LX, XT | | Bike Setup: | Cannondale CAAD3, Fatty SL, XT stuff, Grip Shift Attack | | Bottom Line: | Interesting idea, but does not work well. from Seattle Date Reviewed: February 25, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | any dirt trail | | Duration Product Used: | More than 3 years | | Strengths: | Best Hubs that I have ever owned. 10,000+ miles and still rolling strong. The straight-pull spokes build up a bombproof wheelset. I love to ride up/down stairs on these hubs built up on ceramic rims.
* hint * don't over-tighten your spokes & they won't pull out of your rim ! | | Weaknesses: | The original '93 rear hub cassette tore out after 1,000 miles & were replaced immediately - including rebuilding my wheel - for free, by Pulstar.
| | Similar Products Used: | Shimano LX, XT, Ringle | | Bike Setup: | '94 ParkPre, Manitou 3, XTR V-brakes, Mavic 217 ceramic rims | | Bottom Line: | These hubs rule. I had to build up a new wheelset after crunching my front wheel & this required a special order of the DT spokes. The front/rear wheel use the same sized spokes - so I ordered a box of each size, enough to build 4 complete wheels.
After 10,000 miles they are still rolling strong (had to replace the rear at 1,000 miles). I never grease the sealed bearings, replaced the front bearings after the 3rd wheel & 9,500 miles.

This is by far the most frustrating bike product I have ever owned! Thank god they don't make'em anymore, now I know why | Overall Rating: |

The front hub is finally worn out (cone and races)after three years. | | Similar Products Used: | XTR, XT | | Bike Setup: | The hubs came on my 95 Mt Fuji SX with a Manitou 4 fork. I weigh 185 and ride some rough terrain. | | Bottom Line: | I won't touch these hubs again. Looks aren't important. | Overall Rating: |
